STAR WARS CANON FACT 209: Before the Phantom Menace, Darth Maul’s hunger for the blood of the Jedi was intoxicating. He dreamed of the day the Sith will reveal themselves and lay waste to the entire Jedi Order. To ease his obsession, Maul tracked down a force sensitive thief from the lower levels of Coruscant. His skills were no doubt the way they were thanks to the force guiding him. He was untrained, but Maul saw what trouble this thief could become under the guidance of the Jedi. Maul kills the thief, but his hunger only grew. In response to this issue, his master,Darth Sidious, brings him to the dark world of Malachor. Just as he did when Maul was a child. By devouring the ashes of fallen Sith, Maul witnessed a vision of himself as a Jedi. How his anger unleashed his destructive might on the innocent, but was nowhere strong enough to defeat the entire Jedi Order. He learned that even though his anger fueled his strength, it should never control his actions. The darkside was not his master, Sidious was. He must be patient, for the time will come for the Sith to have their revenge. #starwars#starwarsfan#starwarscanon#phantommenace#attackoftheclones#clonewars#revengeofthesith#soloastarwarsstory#starwarsrebels#rogueone#newhope#empirestrikesback#returnofthejedi#themandalorian#starwarsresistance#forceawakens#lastjedi#battlefront#battlefront2#vaderimmortal
Well. It has been a year since TLJ came out. A year of fat box office numbers, death threats, hottakes, a fan base uniting and tearing itself. If anything, the display of natural human behavior was more fascinating than any Snoke backstory or overpowered ass Luke force ability any screenwriter or SW aficionado could dream of.
Everything that can be said has been said. It’s like an how in an infinite universe all you can imagine has happened, is happening, or will happen.
So I ask myself why I even bother with an anniversary post. If I do have anything to contribute, I would challenge the polarization of this film, the extremities. In an attempt to separate myself from the bloodbath, or the cauterized limb pile, I’d argue that this film is much closer to the top middle, an objectively decent film with flaws common to any other ensemble/blockbuster of this decade. It’s not “libtard SW ruining trash” nor is it “the next evolution of mega-movie cinema and the pinnacle of the franchise” There is no cardinal sin this movie commits that isn’t already rampant throughout its contemporaries. Useless subplots, annoying characters, repeated scenes, strange motivations, pacing. Sounds familiar. We complain that the mega-films aren’t original. If these things are being made on an assembly line, then they will be duplicates in quality as well. What it means to be a “true SW” movie and multimedia discussions about The Force are more subjective. Those things can be debated. But I fail to see how a movie this straightforward and pragmatically crafted for widespread appeal is on either outermost end of the quality spectrum. What film did fans see that was so perfectly executed that it made this one look like “the worst movie ever made.” Conversely, there’s some grade A chicken shit out there: Super Babies 2, Battlefield Earth, etc. But when compared to TLJ I’m not so floored that I think its flawless.
I’d formally review the film in a separate writing. This is just to add to the white noise SW rants. Fact is, you either love or hate this movie, yet I wouldn’t blame the craftsmanship for that fact. #starwars#lastjedi#film#movie#cinema#disney#analysis#lousthighburn
Sorry this one took so long to get to you. I’ve been a little under the weather. YouTube videos about Yoda and Seagulls helped me through it though..... This week the gang put Star Wars: The Last Jedi on trial. Is it a new hope? Or is it a phantom menace?
This week, Ausy is acting as the defense, and arguing that it’s a force to be reckoned with. Joel is acting as the prosecution and arguing that it’s joined the dark side. Dave and Gav are the character witnesses, whilst Alex acts as the judge, giving the final verdict.
In the news, the gang talk about Doctor Sleep, and the Avengers 4 trailer. Plus this week’s Film Feels asks what our favourite Star Wars film is?
This week’s quiz is all about actors who have appeared in the Star Wars universe!
All of that plus a Caption Contest, musical instruments, impressions and banter.
I was just interviewed by Virgin Radio France about my Indie pop/rock/folk album "Friday Night Epitaph" which was recorded with producer Nate Kohrs in an empty appartement up in Harlem over the course of 4 afternoons.
The idea was never to make an album which would be commercially successful, & of course it wasn't. I just wanted to tell stories & share them with whoever might want to hear them.
Nate & I stayed away from overproduction & autotuning, believing that imperfection is beauty.
By doing so, we captured a moment in time, the feelings and thoughts which were present in the room when we were recording this album.
In this process, from almost strangers we became true friends. And on the last day, these friends said their goodbyes since we were both about to move away from NYC.
Nate is now in LA working on various projects as a composer/producer.
As for myself, I've been back in France where I did my best to get our album heard because I decided that it deserved it, despite it -as anything independent- being ignored by most.
But not by all.
Last week I was offered to talk about "Friday Night Epitaph" on Virgin Radio.
For this interview I showed up in my Rose Tico shirt, because I will always root for the outsiders of this world. The underdogs. The ones who have much to say but not always have someone caring to listen...
I wear this shirt with pride, for the ones who are called 'different', as if not fitting the mold was a bad thing...as if difference should not be celebrated...
I wear this shirt in support of the awesome & unstoppable @kellymarietran who is not only a very talented actress, but also a true, genuine & inspiring example of courage & tenacity.
Thanks to her for that, & for when us outsiders need a reminder.
Another great work from NexUnique putting me into that scene. Especially I like the flickering from the light saber. If you want to see more of his great, content, please visit and follow his site, it's absolutely amazing! 😊
