It’s hard to see a sunset in Perfection Valley: because of the latitude, because of the weather, because it’s really hard to get there. But if you are lucky enough to be on the right spot, in the right moment, with the right weather, well: it’s a rare and precious bliss.

Benny (the worlds greatest ice climbing guide) is leaving us for the season. We are sad to see him go, but he’s going to have an amazing time in New Zealand! Be sure to follow his Instagram to see all the rad adventures he is going on! @bennylieb BYE BENNY!
LAST WORDS: We wake to the cold and rain from the night before. It was Tuesday and that meant time to evacuate Seward and head back up to Anchorage. Our flight wasn’t until 11:50 pm but there was a still a lot to do. With the long day ahead of us, we made sure to take advantage of our complimentary breakfast. I consumed the pile of square scrambled eggs, a bowl of cereal, an English muffin and turkey sausage, all washed down with coffee.
On the way out of Seward, we meander about one more time taking a road we had yet to travel. This particular road was one that took us further along the waterfront. As we glanced to our right, we noticed that there was huge waterfront campground with lines of RVs of all shapes and sizes hugging the harbor, capped by tents. I would have never known that there was a campground, let alone how full it would be. As small as the town is, we missed a lot last night.
Across the street was a "Before I die" board. I have seen this board before in Napa at a vineyard. This was brilliant. You are a voyeur reading what people have written but that’s what adds to the excitement. It also immediately plunks you in a moment of self-reflection when you think of your own reply or agree with some of the scrawled responses. Some are just flat out hilarious. (Line #1 . Before I die, I want to marry Nicki Minaj.) Some are very true to the heart. They were all so different with this unspoken common thread. If you have not seen one, here is the website. I won’t do it any justice by trying to explain it. http://beforeidie.cc/site/. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What would you write?
Aren't these beautiful! A bowl full of #lobstermushroom and #oystermushrooms purging over night. Lobsters have been popping up like crazy this year. So far we have dehydrated double the amount of what we normally process for winter.....and we haven't even fully come into mushroom harvest time yet. It's been a good year to say the least from #morels to #blacktrumpets . Lobster mushrooms are known for their ability to mimic seafood so we will be making a spicy coconut milk Thai eggplant and seafood chowder with these tomorrow. Yum!!! As always I am grateful for our bounty and grateful for YEARS of living in the woods and #offgrid which taught me how to be self sufficient and be an amazing #gardener#hunter#forager and #medicinewoman . I can even stitch up most boo-boos. I miss living off grid so much and long for the day again to build another home with our own hands and build a new garden and forage a new land, but #gratitude is always present because these gifts from the land never leave my side even if my next future homestead is still out there waiting for me to find it. I am finding it every day. #blessings#offgridlife#homesteadjourney#wildfoods#wildedibles#wildmushrooms
