Back in Kyoto, and rented a じてんしゃ yesterday! Totes the best way to see everything! I mean, who even walks anymore? 😁 So much fun and such a beautiful day. I was worried about biking bc I’m not the best biker, but hello e-bikes! So amazing for getting up hills. And the drivers are bike friendly and I was having the best time, took pics of my bike everywhere 😊 And then I kinda ate it. 😬 I was enjoying a peaceful ride through an uncrowded area of Yasaka Shrine and Maruyama Park (uncrowded bc it was high up a hill), then I kept riding along and somehow ended up in the crazy narrow, crowded, historical streets of Gion, around Kodaiji Temple. I tried to find a bike rack to park, but there were none (like trash cans!) and so I just wanted to get out, and ended up on a steep street I had no business being on, trying to avoid cars and people. It was the most slow motion fall ever...I was going downhill and nearly stopped, but as I tried to put my foot down something got stuck, and somehow the ground got closer and closer and then I was lying half under my bike. These e-bikes are heavy! Everyone is so nice here and people rushed over...I was just embarrassed and didn’t realize my knee was pretty banged up until hours later when I took off my leggings. Probably should have gone straight home. But, I happened upon Yasui Konpira-gu 😍 and made a wish and climbed through the rock, and got delish sushi and sake for dinner and pain. 😁 It’s okay, I’ll have a sweet new scar next to the one I got when I *basically* fell into a Venetian canal. 🤦🏻♀️ Some people collect tattoos when they travel, I collect scars. Mine are more permanent. 🙃 *I wrote this last night but was too tired to post photos. Fell again today trying to hop a short curb going parallel to it. 🤷🏻♀️ So dumb. Bigger crash. I’m fine, a few more cuts and bruises, but I returned the bike immediately after. 🙄 Icing my wounds and heading to Osaka, Kyoto is clearly done with me. **Long story short, I would highly recommend renting a bike in Kyoto! Just be a better biker than I am. 😆
On the approach to a shrine to a Deva gate.
As for the sudden stone stairway to a Deva gate of Bishamondo, red autumn colors become the carpet and invite you and become uphill.
The autumn colors of the slope spreading out from a Deva gate to the west are one of the famous places of colored leaves representing Yamashina district, and the whole precincts is dyed red in the autumn of Bishamondo, and it may be said that it is one of the famous places of colored leaves representing Yamashina, Kyoto district.
