Sometimes these two artists are a little too prolific and their studio/our living room becomes lost under a mountain of their work. Then it's time for a little editing game we call 'Hattie and Joe - keep or throw' 😊 (June 2018).
Our water baby. Kora is never happier than when she’s in the pool. Wolfe loves being in the bath tub too. It’s fair to say we have a couple of water babies on our hands.
When Lefty was a kid he would spend hours in the water, after everybody else had got out because it was too cold.
We believe in living in the moment, and swimming requires our minds to be present 🙏 #korabailey
Watching a cruise ship pass through the Giudecca Canal. Cruise ships are a contentious issue for the city and certainly when we were sitting in our apartment the waves created from them were pretty intense.
Venice did not disappoint!! I had visited while backpacking around Europe almost 20 years ago, but only as a day trip (accommodation in Venice didn't fit into a long-term backpacking budget) and I always regretted not being able to stay.
We were lucky enough to arrange a house swap this time and spent a wonderful week staying in an apartment on the island of Giudecca. What an entirely different way to experience Venice. It's a quieter and more residential island anyway, but especially in the early mornings and evenings we got a real sense of what it would be like to live in this magical, fairytale city.
The day we arrived it was absolutely heaving with people and we assumed this was just the norm, but it turned out it was actually Graduation Day. After the graduation ceremony in St Mark’s Square the lanes were then full of graduates wearing laurel wreaths, walking around with their family and friends and loads of people chanting ‘Dottore, Dottore….’ and a few others words in Italian. Apparently the chant loosely translates as ‘Doctor, Doctor, you’re just a doctor of the asshole’ which gave us all a giggle (more than a few giggles for the boys actually and they delighted in joining in the chant from them on!). It’s one of those things that anyone in our family could chant in the future and we’ll all be instantly transported back to Venice.
Tony and I made sure we each had a chance to go on some solo wandering missions and soak up Venice life (not always entirely possible when you're shepherding 3 kids around a city of water!). One of Tony’s favourite memories from Venice was taking a boat to the pub to watch his football team. My favourite experience would be a toss-up between having a morning coffee canalside in the sun, and the very normal life experience of going to buy groceries but having to take them home by boat.
When asking the kids what their highlights of Venice were, this is the list we were given:
• gelato (or gewato as Alex calls it)
• thousands of bridges
• all the different boats doing different jobs: bus boats, water taxis, gondolas, police boats, rubbish boats, DHL courier boats, army boats, stock delivery boats, humungous cruise ship
We’re all packed up and ready to hit the road at 7:30am tomorrow! Hello @encraftment t ! Here’s the deets for those of you joining us.

So I'm jumping on board.
Had a fabulous morning at @motatnz today. We checked out their new Accelerate exhibition and visited our other fave parts of the place! Eli also went on his first tram ride and he loved it up until the point where he decided he no longer loved it and had a massive tantrum/breakdown 😂😩 Other than that it was a great morning out! 💕
