The Oldest is almost ready to start kindergarten. Just missing a couple bits, and I need to put his name on everything. Can you see a theme 😁? We were lucky Jeremy was able to snag that @jansport backpack during a sale from his old job. I want to get some Mario patches to put on his backpack, but I'm having a hard time finding any in the stores. I'll have to look online.
With clothing, we just need to get him some more pants, but we're waiting in case he has a growth spurt before school starts. And he still needs shoes ( size 12.5 😮). He now has 10 short sleeved shirts, and 4 long sleeved. I still need to wrangle him up and cut his hair also, a nightmare in it self.
Yesterday we received his school letter telling us he'll start August 16th, and his teacher is Mrs Barnes.
P.S. The Youngest was asking for school things too, I had to keep telling him next year.
Bananas, the world’s most popular fruit, are dying throughout the world and are on a path to extinction, being wiped out by a catastrophic fungal disease called Fusarium Wilt, also known as Panama Disease, strain TR4. Any soil infected with the fungus stays contaminated for decades. And yet how many people are aware of this? The world’s shift to monoculture agriculture is having devastating effects on our environment and our food security. What if this were to happen to corn, rice, and soybeans, such staple ubiquitous foods? Sound outrageous? Well, a million people died in Ireland from the great potato famine when disease wiped out their monoculture potato crops. And the Cavendish banana itself that we are accustomed to is the replacement banana that was bred to replace what once was the world’s most popular banana, the Gros Michel, after it was wiped out by the Fusarium Wilt strain known as TR1. But this time it’s not going to be easy to breed another replacement, so be ready to be eating less appealing banana varieties in the future that are less sweet and less creamy in texture, and we may need to go back to the varieties that have pits, which were originally not selected for commercial production for this very reason. Scientists are working hard to genetically modify the Cavendish banana so it can survive. Whatever we end up with, our grandchildren are not going to be enjoying the same bananas we have all come to love and enjoy. We need biodiversity in our agriculture to help fight bacteria and insects that can destroy crops, and we need to be okay paying a little more for it.
