Let’s take a look at some things here: 1) the teaser poster is incredibly intriguing, 2) it’s opening opposite of TOY STORY 4 (which is GENIUS), and 3) I love how the toy is called “Buddi”, an obvious callback to the first film’s original title BLOOD BUDDIES. All things considered, I’m actually starting to look forward to this movie for the first time in...well, ever. #ChildsPlay#Horror#Slasher#Remake#LarsKlevberg#DonMancini#Chucky#KillerDoll#HorrorNerd
While Don Mancini and Universal continue the original franchise with an upcoming TV series and potentially more movies, Orion and MGM are remaking the original Child’s Play, with Lars Klevberg (Polaroid) in the director’s chair. We’ve learned today that Chucky will return to the big screen on June 21, 2019, the same date Toy Story 4 arrives in theaters.
The official poster art has also been revealed today, unveiling the brand new “Buddi” doll, a new take on Chucky that brings the killer doll into a whole new generation. #childsplay#chucky#chuckythekillerdoll#killerdoll#doll#dolls
And so it begins!
Here is the first poster for the #ChildsPlay remake and I still can’t get behind this shit. I’ve made it pretty clear that I’m a huge fan of the franchise. I’m a fan of original creator/writer Don Mancini. I still think what they’ve done to Don, by going and remaking this film without any consulting or bringing him into the project is a slap in the face. Especially why the Child’s Play / #Chucky films are still being made and released, while also being pretty fucking good. Tell me another series where the original creator is still heavily involved that is also delivering the goods? I’ll wait.
I really hope that this doesn’t derailed Don Mancini’s Chucky TV Series that’s currently in development. I have a feeling this will be a huge hit, they’ll start pumping out these shitty sequels and that will be a big bye bye to the original series and timeline. They’ll hang up Don Mancini and that will be an absolute injustice. This man has given most of his career to this character.
What are your thoughts on the remake poster? Are you excited for this film. Let me know in the comments section. Would love to hear your thoughts and opinions.
I didn’t get to make a post celebrating the 30th anniversary of Child’s Play, so I figured better late than never.
Child’s Play came out before I was born, but when I was old enough to discover horror movies, it quickly became one of my all time favorites. Going into it I already had love for Katherine Hicks because I watched 7th Heaven regularly, but my love for her skyrocketed once I was exposed to Child’s Play. As a child who had experienced her parents divorced and had seen the struggles of a single mother, something about the plot of this movie hit me in a very personal spot; a single mom trying to afford the one birthday gift that her son really wanted and struggling to make ends meet, making many sacrifices to put his happiness first. It felt familiar and honestly made me pretty sad. That may be where my fondness for horror came from, finding a place of solace and safety in a genre that you normally wouldn’t suspect.
Aside from all that, I just thought it was freaking scary and cool that a doll could be a killer.
So thank you to all of those who brought this movie, and this franchise, to life, because it always has been and always will be one of my favorites.
