YA’LL. For so long I thought nothing was changing, nothing would ever change. It’s taken a damn long time, but that’s ok. I’ve found what works for me, And I’m running with it. Some days I am mad at myself I didn’t get it together earlier. But most days I’m so so so proud of myself and glad I’ve made a transformation. And I’m still transforming!!! Always transforming, always getting better, always learning what is best for me.
If you’re feeling discouraged or down, know it takes time! And sometimes that time is spent on things that don’t work for you. But that doesn’t mean that time is a waste, you’re still striving to be better and that’s better than not trying at all. You may try something completely different and it suddenly clicks, but you wouldn’t have tried something new if you hadn’t been trying anything at all!
Anywho, happy transformation Tuesday!!!
On the left, my first time ever experiencing jiu-jitsu. My brother-in-law had just started training, and I had always wanted to try some sort of martial art. He showed me some basic stuff. It was a part of the seed that grew into my motivation to lose weight.
Please ignore the tough guy fist. I was a different person back then, and I've always been awkward posing for photos...
Speaking of looking awkward in photos, the photo on the right is today. We are just under two weeks away from my first jiu-jitsu tournament at blue belt.
Jiu-jitsu is a big part of my motivation. What motivates you!? 💬👇

33 hours in our 2nd annual pre Thanksgiving fast! Woke up up with a headache so I got my supplement game going! Sleep wasn't great but that is more due to the coughing 3 year old. One more day of work and then it's break time! Hoping today and tomorrow go smooth as pumpkin pie! I was down the 7 lbs I gained this weekend so that was obviously fluid. It is crazy how you can carry that much weight in fluid! #fasting#intermittentfasting#extendedfast#fitmom#thirtysomething#momswhorun#momswholift#goals#ketolife

Yesterday, I posted my medical Monday’s topic (in the form of a podcast) on Fatty Liver disease and the Whoosh effect. I hope you’ve had a chance to listen to the podcast and that you enjoyed it. With that in mind, I figured I’d do a quick post discussing fatty liver for those who’d like a written explanation as to how it relates to the ketogenic diet. So let’s discuss...
Fatty liver disease is a medical condition wherein fatty deposits develop in the liver and begin to interfere with normal liver function. These deposits are comprised of triglycerides which are a product of over consumption of calories, particularly from carbohydrate rich sources. The common misunderstanding/miscommunication in the world of medicine, however, is that you should reduce your intake of dietary fat to fix this issue... once again making the wrong call because the word “fat” is in the name of the diagnosis. However, research (and basic biology) tells us differently.
Triglycerides are one of the stored forms of glucose that our bodies utilize for energy. The other form is glycogen which is primarily stored in skeletal muscle and the liver. Essentially, our body fat is comprised of stored sugars just waiting to be burned off. However, because we take in far more than we need and because we have so much already stored in the skeletal muscle and liver, we often don’t end up burning off body fat. This causes the body to look for other places to store it. In comes the liver. The liver is already involved in glucose metabolism, so it makes a lot of sense that faulty glucose metabolism would result in issues with the liver... case and point, fatty liver disease.
