been a while. and ironically i'm making a comeback right before i go to the island of disconnection: Cuba! ive been wanting to go here since my mom told me stories about her trip in the 80s. studying the country as a history major only intensified my desire. this is my DREAM trip. americans: we can still go, despite recent changes. follow along. I'll be here all week droppin gems 💎 💃🏾 #Cuba#komadicxcuba#cubana#komadicblog#keauxdotcom
#swipeleft : right now, my fav place on earth is my backyard. i live on a farm in Philadelphia, Mississippi with my family. we have cows + goats + chickens + ducks + horses. i love to just sit on the porch and watch them-they're all reminders to slow down. i'm taking some time to do just that before i road trip to ATL. the best escape is literally in my backyard. plan a mini escape before the weekend! drop me a line about your plans below 👇🏾#komadicxthesip#komadicblog#thehumbletraveller#thehumbletravelmovement#keauxdotcom#mississippi
in May, my mom and i went to the #SouthofFrance to pay a visit to #JamesBaldwin 's house, where he lived and wrote until his death. it's likely going to be turned into condos, so we spent an afternoon there paying respect and reading his texts aloud. for a literary nerd it was the perf getaway. read about it on the blog + lmk if you've taken any cool trips with ur parents/family 👇🏾👇🏾 #linkinbio#komadicxfrance#france 🇫🇷
Mississippi is super rural and beautiful. being in NYC and then Paris, i didn't realize how much i'd missed green spaces until i came back here. i associate nature with escapism, and i'm so happy i don't have to go far to find it. what do you love about the city/town you live in? leave me comment below 👇🏾#komadicxthesip#mississippi
these boys spent hours swimming in the sea that was teeming with jellyfish. they caught them with sticks, and sometimes their hands. then they buried the jellyfish in the sand to make their swim a little less electric ⚡️. i love seeing free black children outside just being themselves. they brought so much joy to my stay at Ngor beach. we can learn so much from just watching the way children interact with the world 🌊 #komadicxsenegal
Father's Day growing up never meant a thing. But, I've been blessed with an amazing stepfather, who I call by his first name, Obbie. I'll never call him dad because that word for me is attached to my biological father who quit the role God had given him. I've learned so much from Obbie, especially that the restorative power of love never comes too late. The full letter is on #keauxdotcom and the link is in my bio. #Swipeleft to get some excerpts. Happy Obbie Day! #blackgirlswhoblog#fathersday#love#linkinbio#browngirlswhowrite#sundaystory
the door of no return on the island of Gorée, a beautiful island off the coast of Senegal with a treacherous history. many ancestors stolen, violated, and tortured here for centuries in the unrelenting heat and humidty. reflections coming to the blog in due time--im having too much fun being disconnected. join me ! #komadicblog#komadicxsenegal
flamenco dance is so special because there is no recording allowed until the very end of the performance 💃🏾. it's one of those rare times where everyone is present in a shared moment and not tweeting and posting to boast or prove anything. trying to recreate this feeling of connectedness (by disconnecting with my digital devices) more often in my day to day life. how will u disconnect today? drop a line in the comments below 👇🏾 #komadicxbarcelona#komadicblog
it's so humbling to travel with people you love and see how they interact with the world 🌎. @lmbellezza i studied together in college and have a habit of taking spur of the moment adventure trips from anywhere to Ferguson to the Sahara. who's your fav travel companion? tag below 👇🏾
back to wifi, but still obsessed with being disconnected digitally. going to hop in the pool after a 10 hour drive through the desert and process this trip the good old fashioned way: with pen and paper. new posts coming soon! in the meantime, i challenge u to unplug somehow today && if you do, share how in the comments below 👇🏾 #komadicxmaroc#komadicblog#travelnoire
#Repost from our favs at the @joydaymovement! take care of your mental health, even when you're on the go! ・・・
We love @keaux's latest blogpost on traveling with #anxiety . She says on @ko.madic, "joy is disobedient--it doesn’t always come when we call it. you can make efforts to be happy, but if it were something that happened at the snap of our fingers, we’d all be living in bliss. anxiety, sadness, depression can strike no matter if you’re on a trip to the local farmer’s market or across the country. i've been working on not putting it to the side just because it's inconvenient." She is an inspiration to us always and please check out her latest blogpost for #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth on #KeauxDotCom .
it’s mental health awareness month, so i’m putting my money where my mission statement is and i’m humbling myself. this new post is on travel/my anxiety. #linkinbio
vacations can be so much fun, but if you get anxious a lot like i do, sometimes they’re just the opposite. especially with the added pressure of knowing you’re SUPPOSED to be having fun when you’re feeling panicky and maybe even sad😓. -
the post contains three souvenirs (takeaways) concerning what i learned about coping with anxiety on the road. here’s one if you’re on the go: joy is disobedient--it doesn’t always come when we call it. -
being vulnerable is not one of my best traits, but i’ve learned from @joydaymovement that having these discussions fosters a sense of community. nobody has to travel the journey to a healthy mind alone. 💛the most important journey is how far you’ll go to work on your mental health. and if you need a travel mate, i’m here with you.
so cheers to the ride🎊 + drop me a line about something you’ll do to make sure you’re alright today 👇🏾
Inspired by @wdbj7 reporter @theofficialbianca39's hike last week that pushed her even further out of her comfort zone after her move to a new city 💪🏾🤸🏾♀️. the journey is everywhere! #Repost ・・・

i drink matcha everyday in Paris, and i've had matcha the last 3 days in London. but yesterday was the best. i threw on my fav pair of heels 👠 , a new pair of jeans 👖,sat in the back room of a café and lingered over my matcha + read for three hours 🍵 📚. tbh it was the highlight of my vacation. i wasn't necessarily doing anything I couldn't do at home, but the act of not having to rush or be obliged to anything but sipping and reading felt like such an escape. in theory, i could've been anywhere in the world but this happened in London & i thank the city for it. how will u slow down today? drop a line in the comments below 👇🏾
so inspired today! it's really all about travelling with a new perspective. check out this #repost from @bellarozzay in Harlem, NYC ✨💛 ・・・
walked to the neighborhood @starbucks today & took a moment to appreciate my surroundings, thanks to @ko.madic. When I travel I usually look forward to exploring hotels, eating at fancy restaurants + shopping but I never take a moment to be grateful that I was actually able to travel to a new place! or explore the place i'm in without doing something "touristy". i've come to believe that vacations aren't about how much money you spend, but how you spend your time. so here's to good weather, here's to being grateful, here's to being inspired, here's to Harlem. 💛
Story time: i went to the bank to deposit money today, but my local bank's bill deposit machine was broken. i was pissed because I was in a rush to get to the gym. so i google mapped a branch not too far away. near the end of my walk, i stumbled across this beautiful cathedral #plottwist
i gave myself permission to just completely stop for a few moments 💆🏾. St. Ambroise is less than a half mile from my apartment, I pass the bus stop named after it everyday, but I've never bothered to take a moment before I was forced to today. practiced what I preach through this blog today, and it def felt good. what will you do to slow down today? drop a line in the comments 👇🏾
we’ve gotten travel all wrong. travel is actually accessible to you right now if you change your perspective—humble it if you will. •
i’ve been to 24 countries and people often ask for advice ☝🏾. i’m always happy to share, but what about appreciating the path you’re traveling this very moment?
traveling to me is less about the individual, specific trips i've gone on, and more about the process of planning🗓, budgeting💸, negotiating👥, packing🎒, organizing📦, embarking💺, arriving🚊, seeing👁, capturing📸, engaging🤸🏾♀️, reflecting💭, and returning home. •
we actually go through these motions every time we leave the house, and it's important to acknowledge the little trips we take every day as we journey to become ourselves.
so i present “komadic,” a humbled approach to domestic and international travel, with emphasis on the art of the personal journey that takes place any and everywhere. •
stay tuned for my first "micreaux trip" post later this week, the first in a series designed to focus on the little trips we take everyday. •
#NewBlogPost#LinkinBio : I loved Beyoncé when I was little and the world was simple. Before I went to an uber white boarding school and raced to assimilate, trying to outrun being "othered." I went through years of hating Bey while being frustrated with having to make sense of being a black girl in white spaces. •I wrote this because I have learned how to be happy with myself as a black woman, and as a result, I'm able to be happy for other women, Beyoncé included. •But, there's a lot of black women/Beyoncé haters still out there in the general population caught up in their own envy-breeding self-hatred and self-unawareness to see Beyoncé, and all black women, for the greatness they exude. I wrote this for y'all.

This blog post is a response to everyone who thinks it's easier for Americans abroad to watch our home in turmoil. Don't say you'll run away and join us, figure out what actions you can take to preserve your rights and communities. I poured this out to clear my mind, so that I could use that emptied headspace for greater good. ✨PS: that's me mid-interview, mid-cry after hearing the results of the election during the election night broadcast my masters program did in Paris #linkinbio#keauxdotcom#blackgirlswhoblog#blackswhoblog
Yesterday, I started blogging again. If you feel like me, between the heat and the incessant floods of black murders by police on social media, it’s been a long, hot summer. A lot of people I’ve spoken to feel heartbroken, and I think black America is coping with a collective heartbreak💔. We’re living life in the same "post-relationship dystopia" you experience when a relationship comes to an end. Check out my thoughts on my blog, “Kolloquial.”💭 #linkinbio#blackgirlsblog#blacklivesmatter#blackmindsmatter#nyc#keauxdotcom
Blog going up, on a Thursday. Just trying to do the writer thing (hah). Keaux.com is my site. My blog is called Kolloquial. It's a simple, "kolloquial" approach to the complexities of the world and my mind. Link in my bio forever. ---------------------------------------------------------Any comments/feedback appreciated. Thanks to everyone who has read rough drafts/seen early versions of the site. Shoutout to @morgan.brittani for my logos. 🔥 #Keauxdotcom#blackgirlswhoblog
