Throw back to 18 (maybe 19) year old me. One of my customers mentioned that Toys R Us is officially closed and that's pretty sad. I used to shop weekly with my awesome bro @dkasshumustdie at KB Toys and nothing else mattered.
I collected quite a lot of megaman toys with D and sadly, some of them are lost or broken now. This black Zero was a treasure of mine and I do still have him.
Anyway, it's sad that so many toy stores are gone. There was always a huge sense of adventure going to hunt (now rare) megaman toys and figures.
Photo by : @dkasshumustdie thanks for seriously being the coolest person to shop with. We never lingered. It was always get what we wanted, then grab a caramel frappe to go.
Two companies who have entertained us for years have come to an end in the past few days. Thank you Saban for bringing us five teenagers with attitude who would change the world. And thank you ToysRUs, for providing us with the toys to re-enact our favorite episodes. Even if they were kind of flopping near the end, let us not forget their legacies and the joy they brought to everyone. Farewell, and best of wishes to those seeking new employment.
Toys R Us was really special to me. I didn’t intend to write anything about it because these things happen and, as a physical media collector, most of my favorite stores tend to close anyway. But, I got pretty sad today seeing the UHaul load everything away while they closed their doors for good. One of my fondest memories was for my....maybe 11th birthday...my mom taking me to Toys R Us and letting me blow $100 on whatever I wanted. Little did she know that Phantom Menace figures were clearanced out for like $1 a piece. When I tell y’all I FILLED the cart. I scooped everything off the shelf and picked out everything I already had and put them back. Needless to say I had no problem spending the $100. It was like being in Willy Wonka’s factory. They had everything....no matter what phase you were in or what age you were. I’m gonna miss it. 🦒
Almost ten years ago, the #KBToys in my neck of the woods (at the old #NanuetMall ) went out of business. Flash forward to yesterday, when #ToysRUs stores nationwide closed down for good. Another part of our collective childhood and adolescence, gone.
Sounds like there is HOPE after all and the #kbtoys REVIVAL that's due for this fall is intriguing #partycity

With the iconic Toys 'R' Us closing its stores across the country for good, another retailer is making plans to be the destination for toys.
Party City announced it will open close to 50 Toy City pop-up stores in locations across the country. "The creation of a Toy City concept to complement our temporary seasonal retail strategy is a logical extension of our brand; one that will allow us to leverage our existing pop-up store capabilities and capitalize on the category whitespace that has recently been created," CEO James Harrison said in a release.
The Toy City pop-ups are expected to open in September alongside Halloween City locations.
Party City will also add toys to its online experience, a press release stated. "As the leading omni-channel retailer in the category, there are many benefits to this pop-up store expansion strategy. We're excited to increase our toy assortments while still remaining focused on our core seasonal offerings," Harrison added.
So glad that the ToysR’Us stores in Canada are still alive and kicking. It was pretty sad when the last one near where I live closed down recently, because I spent a lot of time there as a kid. But, its nice to know that they’ll still be around in some capacity. I also heard that KB Toys is being resurrected as a pop-up chain during this coming holiday season and it will buy some of what’s left of ToysR’Us? Either way, I’m glad there will still be generations of kids that get to experience it. Also, the “Collectors Corner” section of this ToysR’Us was stocked with new stuff like the Robot Damashii Pacific Rim: Uprising figures and the McFarlane Stranger Things wave 2 figures, which makes me wonder - if KB Toys does indeed come back, will it also carry adult collectibles? Anyway, I’ll probably give away some of those Shiny Zygarde codes tomorrow. Stay tuned :) ——————————————————————
