One way to keep kids off screens is to get them outdoors. Even my 4 1/2 year olds are being patient on the boat when we all go fishing together on the lake. High expectations for our kids is not a bad thing. Yes we have to teach them, but when they start to reach them the parenting challenges are all worth it.
Leg one of our 2 month vacation is complete. We traveled from #29Palms CA to #Portland OR. Spending time with their one cousin, enjoying the moderate temperatures, greenery everywhere, and time with family before leg 2 of our journey begins. Having the flexibility to just travel for months is true freedom. Working at home and being a homeschool family is freedom in so many ways. Teaching my children that they can succeed while caring for their family in true freedom is empowering. God is good for the path He has revealed for us. More travels ahead with Him in the lead. #faithisfreedom#sahm#wahm#workathomefreedom
World Cup activities
T spend so long making these yesterday, he loved them. We’re having fun doing activities again to keep him off of screen time but still occupied. We saw these on Pinterest from @redtedart and made The Argentina one ourselves as that’s T’s second team he’s supporting for the World Cup.
Just a couple of 4 year olds sewing. This was today’s big activity. They actually both are really getting interested in their school work. It is fun to see their interest in table activities growing. I am amazed at how fast kids learn even when they have not had consistent lessons. Preschool/Kindergarten at home in the Fall will be fun. #ilovepreschool#myfaveagegroup
I had a reader ask me how to prepare activities each night since she works with a variety of age levels.
My best tip: FIND ACTIVITIES THAT CAN EASILY BE ADAPTED FOR MULTIPLE LEVELS.
I gave her the example of my latest sensory bin freebie. It is already set up to be differentiated. With those ABC clothespins and the three sets of flowers you can easily work on: 🍎matching uppercase to uppercase
🍎matching uppercase to lowercase
🍎matching letter to beginning sound picture
BUT, there are so many other things you can do with them. I told her you could have students: 🍎look for the first letter in their name
🍎find the letters in their name
🍎put the letters in order
🍎pick a letter and find something around the room that starts with it
🍎spell a sight word
The list could go on and on. Prep once and then differentiate for the win!!!! What other ways could you differentiate with uppercase flowers, lowercase flowers, and beginning sounds flowers.
We are going to be starting our #afterschoolfunwithmum activities again next week. I stopped because T had so many sports clubs he was going to, I wanted to give him a bit more free time to decide for himself what he wanted to do. In reality though it was always tech, films, PS4, basketball or football. He was tired and irritable and we argued, it just didn’t work. So we’ve decided to go back to having some set activities to do after school, however, these will be flexible and so if he wants to go swimming or play basket ball we’ll do that instead. This isn’t to restrict him, just to help him not have too much to process after a busy day at school. Next week our activities will be based on Bees, after I saw the book ‘what on Earth bees’ on
@homeedbookbugs‘s instagram feed. We won’t always have a theme, I just love bees so this was an easy one to do 😉
Because unexpected sunshine means playing and learning outside. I call this Find the Letter. I wrote all of the upper and lowercase letters in chalk. Then I call out a letter and my little one has to run and find the letter (both versions) and step on it. Easy peasy.
Kindness is one of the greatest gifts we can give to children! We must model it. We must make it imperative. A kind spirit will always shine brighter than any amount of money, success, or intelligence.

Happy First Day of Spring! .
We are still buried under at least a foot of snow and expecting another 4-8” tomorrow! 😳
It’s also been bitterly cold but today is warm enough to see some melting. There are ice formations & icicles all around the house.
How is your first day of spring or fall going?
Today, I went to the hardware store to buy wall anchors. This sweet 80-year-old man explained how wall anchors work. Yet, I didn’t have the heart to tell him that’s it’s 2018 and I’ve been drilling holes and hanging things since I was a kid. In the meantime, I bought myself some cool new bits for my drill. I hope Hello Kitty deters the boys in the house. #girlpower 💪
I went for a walk this afternoon with my boys! 💚💙
It was so nice to reconnect with Caden in nature, it’s where he is calmest & our bond is strongest. I’ve missed this the most during the last part of my pregnancy & the last 6 weeks. .
I can’t wait for Spring, when we will be able to get outside daily! .
What are you up to today?
I went sledding with my big boy this week! I love being able to get outside & do fun things again! 💙
I’m almost 6 weeks postpartum & feeling really good! It’s amazing how different my two postpartum experiences have been!
