A little look at my Kitchen Day today. I hit it pretty hard because I had a lot of produce from my dad’s garden to use up before it went bad.
I also fixed a big batch of Chicken Fried Rice to deliver to a new mama at church. Also sending her some cukes and tomatoes. And chips and salsa for snacking.
@breadbeckers bread of course!
Two loaves of Yellow Squash Lemon Poppyseed Bread (dad sent me lots of squash). I found the recipe on Pinterest and it smells AMAZING.
I prepped strawberries, tomatoes and cukes.
I used the zucchini and sautéed it with mushrooms and butter. Finished off the yellow squash in a Yellow Squash Casserole.
I made a double batch of @venisonfordinner’s ranch dip mix because my jar was low. And that’s not acceptable.
Huge batch of baked beans in the crock for dinner tonight + lunch tomorrow. Recipe in Crock On.
Shredded cheese and pre-prepped some Zoodles.
Very productive kitchen Day to save myself time later!

You might be surprised to see a photo of a banana on my feed considering I follow a #LCHF way of eating. 🍌 But believe it or not, an unripe banana has far less carbs than a ripe one! 🤯 (Digestible ones at least) It is also one of the best sources of prebiotics, which are crucial for a healthy gut. Keep scrolling to read more about resistant starches. 👇
Resistant starch is any starch that is not absorbed as glucose, and travels undigested to feed the good bacteria in our gut. 🙌 RS is the best source of prebiotics! Many studies in humans show these types of starches have powerful health benefits including:
✔️ improved digestion
✔️ lowered blood glucose response to food
✔️ improved insulin sensitivity
✔️ reduced appetite
✔️ breaks weight loss plateau
Some RS naturally occurs in raw food (green bananas, raw potatoes) and some is formed after cooking and cooling food (rice, beans, potatoes). 👩🍳
The easiest way to incorporate it into a low carb diet is with raw potato starch. 🥔 1tbsp has 10g of carbs, with around 70% of those being RS. Simply add it in your smoothie or sprinkle it over your food. Green bananas are also 70-80% RS, but as they ripen, this gets replaced with simple sugars... so eat them quick! 🍌
PS excuse my crappy Photoshop job trying to turn this banana green. 😂 I didn't follow my own advice and let it ripen too much... It actually looked more natural on my computer... LOL 🤦
👆🏼bowl = the best thing this lady 🙋🏼♀️ has put in her mouth all day #bitcheslovebowls | in the bowl: sprouted millet (I do this myself, I’ve never found a pre-sprouted millet) + steamed kale with fresh 🍋 juice + poached chicken + cilantro 🌿 + a shiitake, zucchini, carrot medley made from the last of last weeks @imperfectproduce delivery sautéed with a ginger miso sauce (details on my stories!)
Oh, hey! It’s another gorgeously styled photo of our leftovers! Seriously...I have to start making the recipes I want to share when I’m not already HANGRY😂
I made up a sauce for this curry based on several I’ve made in the past...
1 Tbsp grated ginger • 1 Grated garlic clove • 1 Tbsp coconut aminos • 2 Tbsp fish sauce • 1 Tbsp rice vinegar • 1 Tbsp maple syrup • 1 Tbsp red curry paste • 1 heaping Tbsp almond butter -
I sautéed 1/2 an onion in coconut oil for 2-3 min then added in almost every vegetable I had left in my fridge! Cauliflower, zucchini, carrots, red pepper and kale. I let all the veggies cook together for a few min then added the sauce and a whole can of full fat coconut milk. -
Usually I would simmer this covered for 15-20 min on the stove, but tonight I made it in my Instant Pot! I sautéed in the pot and then set to pressure cook for 4 min. Once I let out the steam I added pre-cooked chickpeas and dished it out on a bed of the quinoa/farro mix I made on Sunday. So quick and seriously such an easy dinner!
Friends, I know you’re like me and you don’t buy your fish and seafood from just anyone.⠀
You might even be snobbish about these things, like I am...I mean, have a discerning mind....⠀
When my dear dear friend and fellow foodie says she gets her seafood from @mtkiscoseafood, I listen.⠀
We had the good fortune to be ladies who lunch today at @exit4foodhall and I knew I wanted to make shrimp tacos for dinner.⠀
I am SO glad I came to this seafood Mecca! I picked up some sushi, shrimp, salmon and even some organic figs and crispy chocolate chip cookies for the win!⠀
Go see these guys! They’ll take good care of you!⠀
My girl loved the tacos! Shrimp for the win! What was for dinner at your place?⠀

I often talk about food and diet when discussing health but so often we overlook simple lifestyle factors which are vital to our health.
Sunshine is so important to our health, both physically and mentally. Sunshine gives us vitamin D which is vital for bone health, and a lack of vitamin D has also been linked to things like depression and poor mental health.
So do yourself a favour and get outside and soak up that vitamin D, you'll feel better, both physically and mentally ☀️
Killing the buzz of fat burners
Yesterday, we tore pieces off SARMs (see highlight if you missed it), and today it’s time to pull the pin on fatburners.
Why are fat burners so popular?
- Because of the research that indicates their effectiveness?
- Because of the models that advocate for them?
- Or because of the outrageous promises made on the containers themselves?
The health and fitness industry is plagued by the advocation of snake oil in many forms - fat burners being the worst of all.
Just like waist trainers and skinny teas, fat burners take advantage of those most vulnerable and pray on ignorance.
Unfortunately, it’s not as easy to sell consistency over long periods of time on a diet packed full of wholesome foods, with regular activity.
Hard work isn’t as sexy as a short cut pill or potion.
Creating new habits that serve you for sustained results is not as appealing as simply drinking chemical shitstorms to get jacked.
But it is the way to achieve your goals and most importantly - sustain the results you achieve.

Watched my fave Disney today with my little chick, and I HAD to make it. Paleo, and made a Keto version for the glorious @souzeeroberts ❤️
This one is going on the blog, when I actually write down what I did 🤦🏼♀️. One of these days I’m going to learn to do that AS I’M COOKING. Maybe. Or I’ll just keep taking forever to post recipes and you’ll love me anyway.
Getting invited to potluck type events can be a little challenging when you have specific dietary needs. Tonight, I’m bringing a big fruit/veg/cheese tray (with some @simplemills crackers on the side)...this way I’ll know there’s at least one plate my kids can attack with wild abandon!😉

Had a chia seed pudding craving today. Walked a few blocks out of my way this morning to @nativecosf for this stunner. If you work in downtown SF, go here immediately. If you don’t and you want some chia seed pudding in your life immediately (or at least in 3 hours 😂) here’s how you can make it happen. 👇🏼
Combine 3 cups of unsweetened almond, cashew or coconut milk and 1/2 to 3/4 cups chia seeds plus a tablespoon of maple syrup to sweeten (or a few drops of vanilla stevia). Combine and soak for 10 minutes. Give it a stir and then place in your fridge for at least 3 hours or overnight. This will last for 3 days in the fridge. Top with flaked coconut, nuts, fruit, granola or my fav, a crumbled Lara Bar (I like the lemon flavor). 🤗
Have you ever thought about what that steak on your plate ate when it was alive? Does it even matter?
The US industrialized meat industry has given meat-eating a bad name. Many people are choosing vegetarianism for moral and environmental reasons...and who can blame them? Did you know that 99% of the meat in America comes from Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs)? But what does that mean?
Let’s talk biology. Cows are designed to be herbivores, and grass and clovers are their ideal foods. 🍀 What are the cows fed in CAFOs? Corn. 🌽 Genetically-modified corn, to be exact.
Cows eating GMO corn is a bit like humans eating McDonald’s for every meal. Not great, right? This creates health problems in the cow, which then is treated with antibiotics as a routine measure. They are then crowded into grassless land, where they remain unhealthy and stressed out....typically in unsanitary conditions.
To add insult to injury, because of the poor health of the cow, when the meat is processed it is then decontaminated using ammonia. Yes. AMMONIA.
How do we avoid this? Choose 100% grass-fed meat, friends. Because of raised awareness, it is becoming easier to find it in most grocery stores. When possible, buy organic. Support small local farms that are raising their animals right and giving them a happy, healthy life. For a quick and easy online option check out @butcherbox ...they do the hard work for you by supplying you with only top notch meat, nothing less. #youarewhatyoueateats#sustainablefarming#supportsmallbusinesses
