That's a wrap for Cape to Cape 2018! Despite a few setbacks today I punched on and never gave up trying to make up time, and was rewarded with 7th female on the stage; holding on to my 7th place in Open Women, and 8th female overall for GC.
So good to share this experience with my teamie and so many of my friends. Well done to everyone that completed the event!
Thanks to all the volunteers, marshals, race organizers, course setters, trail builders, sponsors, and everyone else who contributes to us being able to just go out and ride our bikes for 4 days!

Humpback Whale Encounter 🐋
WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!! We had the most magical day aboard the boat, Draw Card @whalesharkdive. We were even luckier to be joined and able to do this incredible experience with our ‘non traveling’ elder kids.
The day was full of excitement in so many ways. A first for snorkeling for Gabby, snorkeling a reef full of colourful fish, breaching whales and whale calves, there were turtles 😍 (which almost saw me drown as I tried screaming with excitement underwater) and of course the stars of the day our Humpback Whale encounter 😍❤️!
As we swam towards these gentle giants, we’re told “heads in the water” and with so much anticipation your eyes dart left and right, down into the deep and towards the surface. Then, from the deepest blues of the ocean you get your first glimpse of the graceful giant swimming towards you. As you watch these surprisingly fast swimming giants glide by, you cannot but feel a mixture of emotions. The anticipation turns to excitement, exhilaration and you are in awe of the gentleness these Humpbacks show. We are of course in their environment, they are not threatened nor scared. They swim past you, I’m sure just as inquisitive of us as we are of them. We were lucky enough to encounter a mother and her calf and yet she still was not at all threatened by us nor felt the need to be protective of her calf, albeit the calf was still 3 times the size of us.
We had 4 different encounters, each different and each as special as each other. This is truly a day we all will never forget.
Traveling around Australia we have become so much more aware of the importance to recycle and care for our environment. Days like this one, also remind us the importance for caring for our oceans and recycling and minimizing the use of plastics and also the importance of protecting such a beautiful species that has fought its way back from near extinction. .
I’m always thankful for the rain. But after 6 working days. I was looking forward for today to be sunny instead it rained. So for now I’ll just look at old videos.
