1 litre vegetable stock 500g carrots - chopped 100g potato - peeled and finely chopped 2 strips of orange zest 100g leeks white part only, chopped
80ml freshly squeezed orange juice
Salt and ground black pepper
4 Tbsp plain soya yogurt
2 Tbsp coarsely chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley, to garnish 1 strip of orange zest - cut into fine shreds, to garnish
1. Pour the stock into a large saucepan. Add the carrots, potato, leeks and orange zest.
2. Bring to the boil over a high heat, then reduce the heat to medium.
3. Skim the surface as necessary to remove the film on the top. Simmer for about 20 minutes or until all the vegetables are tender. 4. Remove and discard the strips of orange zest. Cool slightly. Pu- rée or blend the soup until smooth. If serving the soup hot, return it to the heat and add the orange juice.
5. Add a spoonful of yogurt to each. Sprinkle with the parsley and shredded orange zest.
6. Serve. To serve the soup chilled, leave to cool. Chill for at least 4.

Plants for the win! Today I ventured into the liver rescue cleanse- this bowl of goodness is full of beautiful fruits, vegetables, herbs, and leafy greens that nourish every cell of the body. As I reflect on my evolution, I remember how for years I have wanted to just lose weight and be a little bit thinner. I didn’t realize that weight is actually related to the health of my liver. The very idea of detoxing or cleansing baffles me. Most people embark on a detox/cleanse because they are feeling sluggish, bloated, and over all just a sense of blah. Our bodies know how to remove toxins so if you’re feeling like you need to detox or cleanse, just cut out processed foods and alcohol, focus on lean proteins, fruits, and veggies. Spending $100 bucks on some 3 day juice cleanse is not worth it. You’re really just going from one extreme to the other. Instead focus on building healthy habits.
Some will say that you can lose pounds from a detox/cleanse, yes you can lose “weight” but its water weight, not fat loss. You will likely gain it all back when you’re done detoxing/cleansing.
The problem with Juice Cleanses:
❌By detoxing and not eating enough protein, you can actually inhibit your body’s natural ability to eliminate toxins.
❌Juice detoxes are filled with sugar, just because it’s natural doesn’t mean you should drink a ton of it, they can cause huge swings in blood sugar levels.
❌GI tract dysfunction from not eating enough fiber, again, your inhibiting your body’s natural ability to cleanse by not eating enough fiber.
So the next time someone tries to get you to try a cleanse, walk away, more often than not they are going to make a commission off of selling it to you. And I am in no way bashing someone who receives affiliate commissions, however, the focus should be on YOU and sustainable lifestyle changes, not a quick fix.
