FRODO: I can’t do this, Sam.
SAM: I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy. How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened.
But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t. Because they were holding on to something.
FRODO: What are we holding on to, Sam?
SAM: That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for. 💙

My father’s paperback copies of The Lord of the Rings. As a kid, my dad would read me Tolkien after he got home from work. I remember he was so tired that sometimes his voice would slow, and he’d start to drift off to sleep. Yet, he would never leave me and only went to bed (reluctantly) after I told him he was falling asleep and not “resting his eyes.” As a child, I knew that this was a sweet and loving gesture. But as an adult, I am deeply touched, knowing that he was sharing something to near to his heart. Those nights instilled my love of magic and the written word. Those nights shaped me to be who I am today. Sometimes I wonder what type of person I would be without Middle-earth in my heart. The truth is, I can’t imagine it and I’m forever grateful to those nights of my childhood, where a sleepy father read out loud through heavy lidded eyes, fighting to stay awake in order to read a story about wizards and elves and hobbits to his wide-eyed daughter 🖤

Should I add any writing in the clear space??? I was thinking something about Fangorn or Old Man Willow... or I could leave it blank for a buyer’s custom request!
Making some exciting life and business changes in the next month! Honesty hour: I’m slowly learning to take charge of what I want. I’ve always been pretty relaxed when it came to my personal and professional goals. I let things come my way and never fully invested myself in the available time I’m so fortunate to have. I’ve had a recent epiphany that really made me take a big step back and look at the life I’ve created for myself. It’s time for a rebrand & upgrade and I’m so incredibly stoked! Let’s do this! 💪🏼 artwork by the incredible @sarahandsweet ✨
