Summer is definitely drawing to a close but the harvests aren’t stopping quite yet. I’ve still got some potatoes to unearth and borlotti beans to pick and plenty of tomatoes and peppers to harvest too. Almost time to get the beds prepped for the growing season next year but before then I’ve got some onion sets to put in and broad beans to sow that will both be overwintered. I’m looking forward to changing the greenhouse from the tomato fest to cactus house! #greenhouse#harvest#borlottibeans#tomato#tomatoes#potatoes#corn#everyonecangrowtheirown
The secret of growing healty organic vegetables is is all about improving your soil fertililty. We compost our kitchen scraps in a worm bin.The worms decompose the scraps and turn them into compost and wormtea. Adding the tea to the water when watering the plants will give them a extra shot of nutrients and microbes who will protect them against pests.
I am so gratefull for our first harvest. Everything I did was one big experiment but it worked out so well. The kids learned a lot about the natural way food grows and enjoyed tons of warm sunkissed strawberries, cherries and plums. Every time it is a small wonder how much colour and taste can evolve out of one small seed.
