Who else is crazy about jamón ibérico?
On June 18th, Jaleo Crystal City hosted an unbelievable evening of paellas in addition to an exciting assortment of tapas, sangria, wine and beer. Jaleo invited Spanish Chef Quim Márquez of Barcelona's Quim de la Boqueria to collaborate to create five unique rice dishes, which will be served throughout the 16th annual paella festival which runs through July 1st at all Jaleo locations.
These special paellas include: · Arroz del senorito: “ready to eat” rice
· Arroz del verudras de temporado: Seasonal vegetable and mushroom rice
· Arroz negro: Squid ink arroz
· Arroz del mar y montana: Surf and Turf arroz
· Paella de albondigas y pulpo: Meatballs and octopus rice
Why is paella such an important Spanish cuisine? Paella is a dish that originated in Valencia. It was traditionally cooked only by men on holidays and was made outdoors. You will find a variety of variations depending on where you are within Spain. On the coast, they make paella with seafood, within the interior it is made with chicken, mushrooms, sausage and rabbit, and the traditional “tourist” paella is made with rice, mussels, and peppers. All paella is made of 2-3 ingredients with the exception of vegetable paella. It is interesting to note that the dish itself is not truly “paella,” the name “paella” belongs to the pan that the tasty dish is made in.
Caramelized onions and blue cheese is practically a no-brainer as pairings go. @jaleobyjose takes that pairing to the next level with Valdeón, roasted onion, oranges and thyme. Simple, rich flavors at their finest. .

This #FarmToMesa series at @jaleobethesda has been so amazing! Honored to participate and fortunate to be making food memories like this dessert which was impossibly delicious! The sharpness of the aged goat cheese and the texture of this hinting-on-cheesecake knocked me sideways! And the muscat wine paired perfectly! cheers! #jaleo#jaleobyjose
I know these tiny sandwiches don’t look like much, but trust me, looks can be deceiving. Perfect egg and potato 🥔 omelette with crushed tomatoes 🍅 on crusty yet soft bread 🥖- aka flauta de tortilla de patatas. I want to have brunch at @jaleobyjose every weekend. Too bad it’s in #DC ✌🏻🍳🐷 #exploredc#jaleobyjose#skinnypignyc#skinnypigtravels
