Top lifts from the meet this past weekend. 640 squat(I am most proud of this lift), 405 bench and 675 deadlift. The last squat took it out of me. Missed a 420 bench for third attempt and BARELY missed a 705 deadlift. Had a lot of fun!!

What was my biggest fear? My fear was getting heart disease in young age!! .

Why was I afraid of this? Because growing up I have seen a lot of people getting some kind of disease in young age due to being overweight. .

14 years old 5’ 5” and 230lb was not ideal weight. I remember in my PE class in high school 🏫 my teacher would make us run a mile. I would get so tired and I would have my head beat so fast that I would not able to get it back normal for so long. .

I thought either I have heart disease or I am going to. I was so afraid that I thought i would not able to live for long. That’s when I decided to lose weight. .

I decided to lose weight. Of course I failed a lot of times but I didn’t give up. I started to run everyday to get better at it. .
.
If you are overweight and you think you will get some kind of disease due to overweight or your diet. I suggest you start making changes. Because you have beautiful life ahead. You gonna get married and have children. If you don’t start making changes now. It’s gonna hunt you down later in life. .

It’s going to take time. It won’t happen over night. So if you start making changes today, tomorrow will thank you 🙏. .

I was super sore today from not eating much yesterday since we was on the road going to the game but coach cussed me out so I had to hit it tonight! Finally got to get up on some of the farmers walk action. 4 50ft walks @ 335 lbs. Then some speed deadlifts 3x3 @ 315 lbs. Then that dang circuit again x3. You keep neglecting the Brachialis muscle.💪

The brachialis is a huge muscle underneath the biceps that flexes the elbow, just like the biceps do. When you pack on muscle on the brachialis, it pushes the biceps up, making your arm appear much more massive. This is what creates that sleeve-busting arm width that most people only dream of.

The brachialis also has the potential to be massively strong due to its origin and insertion points on the arm. This makes everything easier, like rowing heavier weights, being able to do many more pull ups, and picking up heavier weights off the ground.

But how do you train this muscle?

Most trainees don't train this muscle effectively due to its preference for a neutral grip. The biceps thrive on a supinated(palm-up) grip, while the brachialis thrives off of a neutral or reverse grip.

The remedy to this puny bicep epidemic is to focus on neutral and reverse grip exercises, multiple times a week. -
Here's an example of a workout that will turn your puny arms into the sleeve busting muscles they are supposed to be:

Neutral grip pull up, 5 x 5
Hammer curls, 4 x 6, lower each rep slowly, with a 3-1-2-1 tempo. Yes, this will be brutal.
Reverse curls, 3 x 15, focus on squeezing at the top of the rep.

Thoughts:

Had alittle deadlift/squat party yesterday at 3.0. Had a good turn out. Other than last week messing around with sumo pulling I haven’t trained in about 3 weeks spending my time getting this gym together and stressing out lol. It was great to take a break and lift with my power family! Just wanted to see what I could go up to and happy it’s still in the tank. 804 grind got me blacking out so had to shut it down. A lot of PRs and motivation got thrown around that day! More to come! Time to get back on the grind.... don’t count me out. —————————————————————

One thing I’ve picked up from listening to @eddycoan and @underthebar is to set up to the lift the same way regardless of weight or variation.  Whether it’s 45lbs or 450lbs, the set up remains the same. Every week while I’m developing my bench I’ll do Incline Press on my Shoulder day, and Close Grip bench on my triceps day, and have a day just for competition bench. For my close grip, I’ll end my lifts with 3 sets, 10 reps. I focus on keeping my elbows tucked as tight to my body, I will use my core to drive through the lift. I would recommend only going to the depth your shoulders can handle, Ive been quite limber lately so I can go to my chest but it’s totally up to comfort. 90 degrees, great. All that matters is your target the top portion of the lift. Let me know what you think. •

Many times it was like you were in a different zone, almost semi conscious; if you have experienced this, you were falling in line with how elite athletes report to feel after extraordinary performances. In combat sport, fighters frequently express a lack of event consciousness when knocking out an opponent.  This is the same for the basketball player that has a chance to win the game by making both free throws with opposing fans screaming. Think, how many football games are dependent on whether a kicker comes through in the clutch?
The Australian Psychologist in June 2010 showed a peer reviewed piece entitled Emotions in sport: Perceived effects on attention, concentration, and performance. This showed athletes identifying negative environmental stimuli, generally narrow on the threat/stimuli and conversely, their ability to respond to peripheral stimuli is compromised.  In other words, if you are a running back and you run scared, you will not see the whole field.  Cognitive activity will increase with anxiety and, in turn, information processing becomes extensive and is greatly slowed down.

Concentration on a perceived threat drives ones’ thoughts toward feelings and personal concerns. This encompasses working memory and will redirect your attention toward your personal concerns, leaving less attention to devote to the sporting task. The uneasy feelings associated with anxiety can also lead to a conscious effort to actively control sporting movements to ensure success. Do you think Mike Tyson threw a knockout upper cut after giving an extensive biomechanical break down in his head on how to throw the punch correctly? Of course not!!! This will kill performance in sport.

It is hard to succeed with both hands around your neck, if you cannot master this principle, you will choke! “Clutch players” retreat to their own inner mind, where there is no pain, no discomfort, and where only positive forces loom.
