Although I try to get ALL my grading done at school, every once in a while, I need to bring work home. This morning as the family sleeps in, I sit, grade, and input grades with a mug that reminds me to smile.
Do you bring home work to do? And if so, do you actually do it?

“The False Prince” // 🌟🌟🌟🌟 // Civil-war is brewing in the kingdom, and Connor, a nobleman, is on a mission to find an orphan boy to act as the presumed-dead, missing prince that has returned home, alive & well. Along comes Sage, the most defiant and difficult of the four chosen orphan boys, but the seemingly best pick. Sage must compete against three other boys to be selected as the crowned prince in order to save his own life. With one twist after another, the story of the false prince reveals layers of deceit, treachery, and lies.
I really enjoyed this book!! It keeps you on the edge of your seat, and I truly didn’t see the twist coming! It’s also appropriate to be on a regular middle school shelf. :)
For the past year I’ve been struggling with balancing teaching and life. Typical teacher, right? 🍎 Before my teaching career I spent over an hour at the gym six days a week and ate very healthy. That all stopped about a year ago and I could give you a ton of excuses but what’s the point? Well I’ve added about 20 pounds to my body and I’m done! I always tell my students “you are the only one that can change you” and I’m going to lead by example. It felt so good to do squats and deadlifts today. 💪🏻 Even running wasn’t terrible... and I despise running! Here’s to starting my #newyearsresolution early!
This year I decided to start investing in myself and my business! I always threw around the old phrase, “you can’t pour from an empty pitcher,” but rarely implemented it in my own life. Just a few of the things I did to change this: .
• went back to grad school to get my specialist in Curriculum & Instruction. • read at least one self help/business minded nonfiction book a month. • joined an online course and community taught by Kayse @teachingonless. • joined @burnbootcamp and love my 5am class! I’m mentally and physically stronger now! • joined a Bible Study. • made some new friends at work. • set up my YouTube channel- wait for it y’all, it’s coming! .
I could list more, but that’s enough for right now. You get it. I truly want to know- what did you do this year to invest in yourself?? .
“And one day she discovered that she was fierce, and strong, and full of fire, and that not even she could hold herself back because her passion burned brighter than her fears.”💞 I said yes, wanting to save some extra money. Somewhere about a month into my transformation, I realized I had a new dream. A new dream that made me feel SO damn good to help other women. The dream gave me my virtual friends who, somehow, became some of my closest friends I talk to almost every single day. Never would I have thought that I would want to be spending a Saturday in Mitchell, South Dakota working (on a weekend?!🤭🤯). It’s not hard to work when it lights a fire in your soul. And it’s definitely not hard when you get to enjoy it with great friends💖
You can have everything you want in this lifetime. Are you willing to do what it takes to make it happen? Cause I for sure am. #youcansitwithus#dontsettleforless
So. Close. We have so many fun learning and holiday experiences lined up for these 3 days, I know it’s going to be a whirlwind! How many days do you have left? What’s your favorite thing to do with your students before winter break? #almostthere#teacherindecember
I got to fulfill my dream of going to @ronclarkacademy this week. I knew I’d see a slide, kids on tables, and lots of energy. But I didn’t realize I’d meet students that are caring, mature, and so SO smart. That is what I took away from this. That if you love kids and have high expectations, you can have students that cheer each other on and push themselves higher. The last picture is all the kids surrounding a friend who got his coat. Even friends that are still waiting to earn theirs. When the name was announced, EVERY student was up hugging him. I am so thankful I got to witness the joy, passion, and excellence in this school. Thank you to all the educators there for opening your classrooms and sharing your wisdom!
I did something pretty time consuming this week, but boy am I glad I did. I organized my desktop!
Seriously, I wish I would have taken a “before” screenshoot. You all would NOT have believed it. I have over 💯 files on my desktop. It was embarrassing and overwhelming.
Now, after some major organizing, it looks like this!
Nothing like starting of the New Year right. Next up my email.
So, are you team “I’ll clean it out it and organize it later because #aintnobodygottimeforthat ,” or team “I can’t move if I don’t keep it organized and cleaned out at all times because #organizationiskey ?” #iteachtoo#iteachupperelementary

I’m not too sure that there is a better way to do #teacherfeetupfriday than with a @starbucks Strawberry Açaí refresher and a @roald_dahl book, like this classic right here. The kids and I are enjoying this book greatly. Today, Charlie walked into the chocolate factory.
How did you spend your Friday at school? I’ve heard a few of you are already starting your break.
We’ve got one more full week to go. #tgif#charlieandthechocolatefactory#iteachupperelementary#teachersonbreak
A Fun, Informal and “Secret” Reading/Phonics Skill Assessment!
We had conversation stations today using our new color poster cards! It was a great way to allow the students to get “up close and personal” with their Secret Story Buddies. Yesterday, I introduced our last phonics Secret, so officially, we now know them all!
I paired them up strategically so that they could support each other and “re-tell” the Secret Story as needed. I set the timer for three minutes, and they had to tell the stories on their two cards, and then switch cards with another partner pair. They loved it and wanted to “play” again and again!
This was my “fun” informal assessment, as I wandered around observing students’ strengths and weaknesses in retelling the sounds and stories. ✏️Click link in profile for more. ##phonicsfun SecretStories4Reading #BrainbasedReading 🧠#AccelerateTheCode
