@igconnect4edu Day 3 of our #5daythankfulchallenge is school supplies! This little bag from @tapasfortwo_gifts is so handy to hold my must haves as I run from classroom to classroom! 🏃♀️ It's also just adorable! Have you checked out the other goodies she has posted? She's got tons of cute things! 😍
What's your favorite school supply? Any black Friday deals I should be on the lookout for? 👇👇👇
For the past six weeks, I’ve been using a version of the Daily 5 with my middle school students and I LOVE how much time it gives me to work with small groups. Also because of the focus on student choice and time management, I’ve noticed a huge improvement in student participation and because they aren’t allowed to interrupt group meetings (ask 3 before me!), they have begun to rely on each other more for help! If anyone is interested in how I set it up, let me know and I can write a blog post about it! #daily5#languagearts#iteachmiddleschool#iteachela
I am taking a minute here over my morning coffee to express that I am so grateful for where I teach and my commitment to always improving.
I have learned humility and grace over the years, yet I need to balance that out with love for what I have to offer. I usually make everyone feel like the expert without giving myself credit. I want to learn how to value my voice more.
I am grateful that since returning to teaching, I have been owning it. I work in a place that is so fast-paced that there is little room for self-doubt. A new approach since I’m a thinker and want to plan everything out.
So I express my gratitude today for teachers who take risks and for schools that allow teachers to try new things in the classroom.
Happy break to teachers. We work so hard that we deserve a little downtime!
A most colorful character of which to teach, read, and study, this French Enlightenment philosopher was nothing if not controversial! Francois wrote and advocated for freedom of religion, speech as well as separation of church and state at a time where absolutism reigned in his native France! Francois rejected becoming an attorney and working for the government ! His writings and speech landed him in jail on many an occasion! It is for these reasons that Francois resorted to his nom de plume , “Voltaire” Once Francois was even exiled to Britain where the fervor for his writings increased dramatically whilst living within a constitutional monarchy! Voltaire’s extremely critical tongue often endangered his life, but he would not yield to express what he felt should be said/written! His most famous work is, of course, Candide, a story about a man and his mentor who meet with dreadful circumstances at every twist and turn.... all the while “hoping for better” and exclaiming they lived in “the best of all possible worlds”... Voltaire exclaimed “I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”. ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY, November 21, 1694, Francois Marie Arouet, AKA “Voltaire” was born! #powertothepen . #thepenismightierthanthesword#freethinker#liberte#candide#frenchhistory#civilrights#historylessonfortoday#historyismyjam#history#historyteacher#iteachmiddleschool
I am thankful for students who ask questions and want to learn more, for colleagues that are my support system, for a classroom that is safe and inviting, for a job that I love, for the ability to be a lifelong learner, for a community of support from all around the world.
So much to be thankful for this year. ❤️❤️❤️
“Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.” It’s not going to be easy. In fact, it can, at times, be so incredibly CHALLENGING! It’s going to take a lot of WORK. It’s going to take a lot of SWEAT. It’s going to take a lot of DETERMINATION. But, at the end of the day, you can be PROUD because you accomplished something challenging! Happy Wednesday!
Some days, you wake up will all the energy in the world. Some days, you wake up ready to seize the day. Other days, you wake up and need a large cup of liquid sunshine and 5 minutes in the Cozy Corner of your classroom just to function.
What can I say? I survived! One more day till Thanksgiving break. 🙌🏼
At the gym it’s easy to look as someone else and think, “I want to look like her.” I’m tying to change my mindset to, “I want to look like my happiest self” •
It’s easy to get caught up in comparisons (especially with social media). I’m trying to focus on making myself the happiest and healthiest version of me so I can do the things I love. Who’s with me??
Sphero Drag Racing with @fplusthree was plenty of fun. Year 8 students had plenty of time to build their vehicles and some designs were unique. Desks laid onto their sides made excellent runways! It was a great little project to include in the program for the semester. With assessment over and the end of academic year rapidly approaching... it was a winner! @sphero #stemteacher#sphero
I heard this hit the floor outside my classroom during passing time. Oddly, before students came running into my classroom to tell me, I had already predicted in my head who it was, and I was right. Can I put that on a resume? Why do middle school students feel compelled to jump and hit anything that hangs from a ceiling? #iteachmiddleschool#teachersofinstagram#iteach7th
Day 49/180✏✏✏ A #parent gifted us these amazing, beautiful, pre-sharped #pencils today! 😍🙌 Parent of the Year Award goes to THIS mama! 🏆 Seriously though, I put 10 of these bad boys in my pencil cup this morning and had like one and a half left by the end of the day!? 🤬 Any #teachertips for pencil accountability in HIGH SCHOOL!? 😩🤯
What are YOU most grateful for?! I have so many wonderful blessings in my life, including my relationship with Jesus, my wonderful husband, sweet baby boy, supportive and hilarious friends, and 48 kiddos at school! 🙏🏻🧡🙌🏽 #countyourblessings#crayolacalligraphy
"I've tried everything. Nothing works."
I used to go to the gym and run my butt off on the treadmill. I'd wait in line for the elliptical. I'd lift some weights here and there with no instruction. I'd take an exercise class that was offered. There was no help with food, no support. I was wingin' it. I was busting my rear only to get minimal results. .
Now, I workout for 20-40 minutes at home just 4 days a week. Sometimes before I go to school, sometimes after school, sometimes when my kids are running around me. I follow a simple nutrition plan. Seriously, not complicated at all. My teacher/mom life can't handle anything complicated. I follow my workout schedule that tells me exactly what to do each day, and then I cross it off. I check in with my fit tribe in our virtual group every day. .
I feel more energized, happier, healthier, and I no longer feel like I need to take a nap once I get home from school. 👩🏫🙌🏻Plus, I'm getting better results in less time while not even having to leave my home to do it. 💪🏻
I tried everything too and nothing worked....until I found this! 🌟
I'm rooting for you, friend! Interested? Drop a 👋🏻below or DM me and we'll chat!
Did you know there's a Greenville, North Carolina and a Greenville, South Carolina, and we're sending Rick Wormeli to both?! And he's excited about it — see! He is hosting a two-day seminar on standards-based assessments in a number of cities (not just the Carolinas 😉). This event is for teachers of grades 5-12. The link to sign up is in our bio; don't miss out! #SDEevents
At the end of the marking period, I handed out student awards to those that exemplified positivity and showed dramatic improvements. STUDENTS LOVED IT! It's easy to forget that printing out a certificate and holding a 5 minute award ceremony can leave such a lasting impact. Recipients felt validated and it motivated other students to strive to earn an award next semester. ✔️ Doing this each quarter!
#thankful for my mom, my best friend. She definitely keeps me sane, especially when I call her on my long drive home from work. Whether I'm sharing stories about her granddaughters or discussing a new book we're reading, I love my mom! This picture is 9 years old! Can you tell?! #5daythankfulchallenge @igconnect4edu
Oh heyyyy Thanksgiving break!
I spent much of the last two days in jammies, cuddling my puppy, and reading...for FUN, yall! I finally had to join the land of the living for rehearsal 😩BUT! Before this week is over, I can't wait to dive into the PD books I snagged at the Learning and the Brain Conference I went to this weekend in Boston. YALL! @andi_mcnair totally inspired me to try #geniushour with my babies (so I'll be sliding into your DMs pretty soon @toocoolformiddleschool!) I cannot wait to try all sorts of new stuff with my babies!!!
