Another unsung hero of Piedmont!! Barbaresco and Barolo may be the 🤑 coming out of the region, but Barberas are delicious, drinkable, and affordable! Barberas are known to be supple and mouth-watering, with chocolatey, cherry and fig notes. The regions to look for are Alba and Asti (like this one!). ⠀⠀
While I'd rate this wine as a 3/5 for me personally, it's mostly because the acidity and mouthwatering-ness were too much for my mood tonight... Pleasant fruitiness of cherry and blackberry though. So if you like acidic reds, give it a shot! I plan to try a few more Barbera d'Asti's though before making my final judgement 😉
“Lambruschi are some of the greatest ancient vines of our Earth, but you don’t need to hear it from me. I’m just a farmer.” Read more about Camillo Donati and some other winemakers behind the ambitious Lambrusco revival happening in Emilia Romagna in my story on Sprudge Wine! See link in bio to read👆🏽
[Shanghai] Is footballer branded wine going to be a thing? If ProWine China is anything to go by, there's a distinct possibility. Here's former Italian international footballer Fabrizio Miccoli - he played for the likes of Juventus and Fiorentina - holding up his Primitivo di Manduria wine. Swipe right and see rose wines by Dutch footballer Wesley Sneijder, Brazil's Ronaldinho, Italy's Gianluigi Buffon, and a bonus from professional boxer Clemente Russo.
🍷Brunello di Montalcino🍷 is one of Italy’s most famous and prestigious wines. In Tuscany, it’s homeland, it shares the top spot with only the highly-prized Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and of course the ubiquitous Chianti. All Brunello di Montalcino wine is made exclusively from Sangiovese grapes grown on the slopes around Montalcino -a classic Tuscan hilltop village 20 miles south of Siena. The word Brunello translates roughly “little dark one” and is the local vernacular name for Sangiovese Grosso, the large-berries form of Sangiovese witch grows in the area. #winetasting#winelovers#winelover#sangiovese#brunello#italianwine#glassofwine#wineoftheday#newtonliquorstore
🍷 Try a new wine Tuesday! 🍷 ⠀
Have you ever read the label on a Ripasso and wondered to yourself what the heck it was, then mumbled something and walked away instead of giving it a try!?? Welllll I would highly consider trying this one next time that happens. Why you ask? Well..... read on dear sir/mam. ⠀
⠀ 🍇 Ripassos are pretty cool actually. Sitting somewhere in between a standard Valpolicella and an Amarone (all three made from the same grape blend) - Ripasso literally stands for ‘repassed’. They take standard valpolicella and pour into a cask of left over skins and stems of already fermented Amarone. This gives the lighter style Valpolicella a little more colour, tanning and body - Neat eh!? 🤔 ⠀
So next time you’re looking for a medium/full bodied red and don’t want to spend the money it takes to get a good one from say California - reach for one of these ‘baby amarones’ 👍🏼👍🏼⠀
Colombera & Garella is a #winery that beguiles me. I bought this #wine not knowing anything about it other than the producer, who makes my favorite Nebbiolo and Nebbiolo blends from Northern Piemonte. I figured based on that, it ought to be awesome. This wine is 100% Vespolina, slightly sweet, and frizzante, yet so evocative. It can’t help but remind me of trattoria wine served in the carafe, but with a bit of elegance and precision and craft too. This isn’t the kind of wine you make to earn big point scores; it’s the kind of wine you make because you are generous of spirit. It’s jolly, super food friendly, and it’s aromas bring to mind black raspberry, violets and marsh grass. Sprightly and vigorous on the palate. Could cut through a chain link fence with those bubbles and acidity. Just a fantastic ride from start to finish. Lovable and gluggable. 🇮🇹🍷👍🏻
Bera Moscato d'Asti: the best Moscato d'Asti that there is. The Bera family has been here making Moscato d'Asti since 1785 when their ancestors bought land from the knights of Malta. The estate lies in the region of Serra Masio, the most prestigious and ancient of the area’s Moscato production. The grapes are entirely Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains and are cultivated on steep, southeast slopes of calcerous marl (of ancient oceanic origins). All of the estate is cultivated in organic viticulture with an emphasis on creating an active, healthy ecosystem. All grapes are harvested by hand and their juice is fermented without yeast inoculations. This is the most beautiful ethereal Moscato I've ever tasted. The sweetness is less noticeable on the palate than it's extremely fine but powerful frothy effervescence and gorgeous apricot/peach fruit. This is pretty much my favorite way to end a meal; it just dances!
The Bera is available retail at Browne Trading, RSVP, Rosemont on Brighton Ave, and the Brooklin General Store
Seriously, if you haven’t tried Langhe Nebbiolos, you need to! I have always been sad about the price of high quality regions like Piedmont, until I was introduced to wines like these. You get the same amazing power and structure of the greats of Barbera and Barbaresco, with a younger and more drinkable finish. Great way to explore some of the worlds more prestigious regions!
we’ve got TWO new glass pours to share, both stellar + both from @selectionaturel: a peppy little northern Italian white from @cantinacosmesifurlani + a slightly rustic Sangiovese from @montemelinovini 🍷 #naturalwine#italianwine
Cheers all my Friends 🍇🍷🍷🍷
