My world in one photo: the neighbourhood I live in, that #HamOnt bound bus behind me, wearing a garment I made. All captured by a dear friend I've had since I was 5. This kind of is a complete and total image of me. Cool! 😊

Pretty in pink with #burdastyle jacket...
Issue 9/2018 of @burda_style contains many patterns that I want to sew. Especially this jacket was love at first sight - not only the pattern even the fabric 💞
I ordered the original fabric from @alfatexideenleben as soon as it was available. Okay, to be honest: it was a nightmare to sew (swipe to see some pinning and Teflon foot action) 😬 But I love, love, love the colour - especially on rainy days ☔️ The pattern itself was really straight forward to sew and even the fitting was easygoing. Just a broad shoulder adjustment and lengthening the jacket (because to lazy to shorten the zipper ☺️). By the way if you wonder about the length of the sleeves, I made a muslin with long sleeves but decided to keep them as short as the pattern of model 105 recommends. I like this little 70s vibe ... The words „like“ and „love“ do often appear in this post - I would definitely recommend this pattern 😆
It feels like fall in Texas today! 🍂🍁🎃 In celebration, I’m tracing out and cutting this cute cowl neck sweater from the 09/2018 issue of Burdastyle. It’s just the sort of cozy piece I want to wear right now. #isewburdastyle
Very very slowly making progress on #burda110x062017 Thank you all for your thoughtful messages on my last post. I read them all and I will reply but in baby steps. It really hit me hard when I was not looking
Thank you all again for being an amazing supportive community ❤️
Before school started I made 13 business casual/professional items in 11 weeks. Currently taking a necessary sewing hiatus to enjoy wearing all the new things for the last year of undergrad, including the requisite sunflower field visit 🌻🌻 •

#sewphotohop HELLO // I’m a day late to the party, but why not try this photo challenge thing? I’ve been sewing clothes since I started undergrad, which is now three years ago (!). I tend toward bright colors and patterns, and I’m working toward a wardrobe that I’m totally comfortable in 100% of the time. Mainly though I just need something to do with my hands ^^
Sticking with the casual theme, another version of the @burda_style Tie-Waist Trousers 08/2018 106. This time in crepe (the suggested fabric for a change 🤣).
How awesome are these pants? I actually took this photo when I got home from work today and they look exactly as they did when I put them on this morning. Now that’s no easy task! I work as a Kindergarten teacher and I spent most of my day today sitting on the floor with the kids. If only my face and hair could stand up to that same challenge, I may have included them in the photo too! 😂😂
I went to a women-in-nanoscience talk about brilliantly colored quantum dots and felt totally on theme. •

Truth be told, this should have been a proud photo of a finished dress, but... yesterday sewing just didn't go as planned 🙄 I was having one of those "off" days, when everything seemed to go wrong: I installed a zipper that's too short (twice!!!); picked out the worst lining ever and only realised that AFTER putting it in; and lastly, fitting was waaaayyyy off and I noticed that waaaayyyyy too late 🙄 As a result, I had to take apart most of the dress and honestly, there was a point where I just wanted to get rid of this dress 🤫 But I like to finish what I start and this pattern is way to good to miss out, so with my last pieces of patience I started putting this dress back together 😊 Still have some work to do, but so proud I didn't give up - I see already this dress is definitely worth it 😊🤗 Hope to have it finished by weekend - wish me luck! 😊😁

My wise 7 year old niece once told me, "Every day is the best day! I don't know why, it just is!" She presented a game changing outlook that I'm forever grateful for. Weirdly enough though, my sewing has since gotten better and my patience doesn't waiver as much when I mess up. Coincidence? Methinks not! Anyhowz, I've got this new #DIY on the blog, made using @burda_style 07/2017. Check it out, link in bio!
Whenever I sew or buy pants I always opt for one of two styles, either tight fitting stretch or relaxed fit with a wide leg. There’s a good reason for this, nothing else fits me! The mere thought of wearing pants feels exhausting to me. Spending all day rearranging the crotch, or pulling up the waist. And the thought of that feeling you get when you sit down 😖 So I’m embarking on this Pants Fitting journey with @burda_style I’ve only just begun and already I’m excited to start tailoring some of my favourite patterns to fit my body shape! 😆😆😆 I’ll let you know how it all goes!
Pulled this fun mid-weight cotton jersey out of my stash tonight for a little late night trouser sewing. Fingers crossed these end up being as fabulous in real life as they already are in my head! #isewburdastyle
Guess who just got her drafting tools out for the first time since graduation and is PUMPED to get started on this 10-piece lingerie collection course from @burda_style???? Too late, it’s me. Stay tuned for looooootssss of updates #isewburdastyle#burdastyleacademy
Now that our kitchen renovation is winding down, my sewing room is no longer a construction staging area. Hooray! There were a few projects to finish in there, starting with this lovely little wrap blouse from the 07/2016 issue of @burda_style! More details can be found on my blog, but I’m utterly in love with this chic little top. #isewburdastyle
Muslin of my Burda 07/2017-102 jumpsuit.
Top right pic is bodice sewn with no pattern alterations and you can see there is almost enough width but not enough length.
Bottom right pic is bodice after adding a dart and length to the bodice piece and I’m pleased with the fit. I basted the bottom to this bodice before determining if more length would be needed at center front of bodice.
Left pic is a pretty good fit. I removed excess length at the top of the shorts pieces as I’m not adding the elastic waist shirring to my jumpsuit. I’m going to remove some of the side fullness also.
Next up is to retrace the pattern with my changes, and start sewing my pink silk jumpsuit.
Talk about adding a bit of ‘flare’ to your wardrobe! Here’s my second version of the @burda_style Flared Culottes. I only made a few modifications to this version. I raised the waistline and lengthened the leg to create full length pants rather than culottes. These feel like an absolute dream to wear! I’ve already worn them to work a few times, where as a Kindy teacher, I sit on very small chairs, squat regularly to talk to very little people and sit cross legged on the floor! Swipe to check out the awesome seam detail!
Details are on my blog (link in bio)
So I made more pants.....This time in a gorgeous cotton sateen from Stone fabrics and with Burda 6985. It was an easy pattern and I added welt pockets at the back and piping details. I should've photographed the detail as I'm super proud of these pants. I'm a pear shape with a long waist so I have to do quite a bit of adjusting to get trousers to fit. I'm learning slowly... Made these in a size 10 but still had to adjust the seams to get the fit perfect at the waist. They're my best make so far though...
Although forty(ish) 😳my party goblin ain’t dead yet ... and it needs party clothes 😂! Just took some quick snaps for the blog before going out for drinks ... hopefully sometime next week I’ll b able to tell you more about this @burda_style skirt ... I’m trying to change my schedule (not that I have one 😑) and to figure out which day to publish... give a girl a hand and chime in with your favorite day and time to read blogs 🙏 ... in the meantime have a nice weekend lovelies 😘
Sewing this @burda_style 04/2013 115 top was AN ADVENTURE, but at least I got a cool blog post out of it? Click the link in my bio to read all about why I need to not be so cocky about sewing patterns. #isewburdastyle
Stepping into the weekend like...🎉😄 Have you seen my latest make? It's 04/2018 #117 from @burda_style and it's meant for TALL folks. But I'm 5'4 and it worked out just perfect for me with no re-sizing at all. Details on the blog, link in bio!
