On the way back to Naran from Babusar top, we stopped a lot to take photos on the way. Every single time we stopped, a bunch of kids used to come running to us to beg for money, chips and soda bottles. While a significant lot were there to help their parents, the majority of them were there for free stuff. It is heartbreaking to see this - no kid should be forced to do so, and even if they are not being forced, it is our responsibility to educate them and explain nicely not to do this. We see so many Pakistanis travelling up north and taking portraits of the kids along the way and very little of them are actually doing something for the kids. We tried to help and explain to them why they shouldn’t be begging for money. Sania and I have not travelled the whole world but we’ve been to a few South East Asian countries, and no where did we find kids begging. Yes, they did gather around us out of curiosity but no where did they specifically ask for money - unlike Pakistan. Blaming the government and other Pakistanis is easy - putting words into action is hard. The Pakistani IG community should collectively be more mindful of this issue. Let’s pause and have a conversation every time we see a kid begging - maybe, just maybe, our collective actions create a positive change.
We can do more as a community.
