There aren't many worse places to run out of fuel than in the snow.
I headed off at 3 pm as I had to wait for the ice on the roads too melt after heavy snow over previous days.
3 hours in and I ran out of fuel near a little town.
A lady resembling Santa Claus offered to help me find some fuel as the night closed in.
After unsuccessfully hiking through the snow and knocking on peoples' doors to no avail I asked a taxi driver if he could spare me a few litres.
We siphoned 3 litres into a coke bottle in the dark and I paid him double the normal price for his trouble.
He warned me that with the sudden drop in temperature, the road had turned back to ice.
For 45 minutes I slipped my way along the mountain road to Uyuni where the famous salt flats await!
