G I R L G A N G
You know the phrase ‘a girl gang has my back’? I never really understood it. Because how can girls be kind to each other, friendly to each other, when there is only ever room for one to succeed in any given situation?
That’s before I found the amazing underworld of Facebook Groups
Whilst I am in groups that have men in them, helpful friendly lovely men, the groups that are female only have really been the ones that have helped me to *be*
Through these groups I have found myself. I have found my voice. I have found my strength. I’m alive
I am not scared to speak out or afraid to have an opinion. I relish debating things and being shown another way.
So I do have a girl gang. It’s just not one that I can physically feel all of the time.
I have shared this as part of the #instalovesunday started by Janet Murray and it really made me think about this weeks theme, community. I may not have one in my street but I sure do in the alleys of the information super highway.
Staying at my folk’s place & came across my old money box.
Its slogan has always had a bloody good point.....primary school squabbles, playground scrapes, unrequited love, A-Level trauma, fights with parents.....this money box has always screamed this little phrase at me from my bedroom shelf, and ya know what.....it’s got a bloody good point.
Yeah the summer holidays have taken their toll on the business. I’ve not done half as much as I’d planned. I’ve not lost the weight I should’ve. It’s peed it down with rain today. BUT.....I’m loving spending time with the kids & my family & I’m lucky my work allows that. The work can wait. The diet can start tomorrow. Thank god the weather is cooler & we can all breathe now. These squares also help me realise I’m not alone so THANK YOU
So YEAH, every cloud does have a silver lining, thanks for reminding me money box.
My RED shoes remind me how I LOVE being by myself (there’s no place like home) and I LOVE my community. Alone and together all at the same time. Perfect balance for introverts in business. .
Say what? I wear them to networking events that I go to for my business. They make me feel good. And for an extra boost I’ll add red lippy too! 💄 👠 .
Building real connections is what community means to me. And it’s the cornerstone of my business. Because as an introvert it’s not that easy heading to the traditional type of networking which is why I’ve set up my own especially for introverts like me! .
Get more info @thefmovement about the next one in Sept. .

I shot this photo as my entry for the #instalovesunday competition by the fabulous @janmurrayuk Subject was: 'community'
This is the Thieves’ Market in Lisbon - a community of independent traders that sell their wares in a vast area around some antique shops. Marketing at its best! Well worth a visit. #instalovesunday#visitlisbon
A* for effort.
So hubby @chrislaingfitdad wanted to get an in action shot of wifey’s unconventional star jump tennis 🎾 efforts.
Needless to say whilst it’s probably not efficient use of power, I think it looks rather stylish 😆
I also rather love the cricketers behind and out of shot other Sunday matches taking place.
We’re lucky that #epping tennis club is still part of the community. Not yet built on. Not yet absorbed by a giant health club chain and long may it continue, along with my slowly improving game.
Some people go to church on Sunday... I go to @shredquartersuk You are who you surround yourself with so find your #community and work hard to make each other better. This is how you grow. #instalovesunday#hiit#yogalife
In Cascais earlier this year I loved watching the local carnival procession.
Just a joyful occasion. This group were celebrating the local watch and clockmaker.
It got me thinking about local communities.
It made me reflect on the local community I live in and what I contribute and also what I need in return.
It’s a good place to live, close to the countryside and easy access to local shops & restaurants.
What’s it like where you live?
The magic ingredient supporting community in Istanbul, today and across the centuries: çay - Turkish tea ✨
Hundreds of thousands of glasses are consumed daily, at home with friends and family, at work with colleagues and customers, during transport in between. Throughout our neighbourhood and across the city, trays of tea glasses are bustled around the streets from dawn to dusk 💫
Have you ever tried it? How many sugars for you?! 😉

Have you considered hiring a guide for a day out in the mountains? You won't have to worry about planning the route, map reading, timings...you can just walk and enjoy the views.
It's not as expensive as you might think, for up to 2 people it's just £150, for 3 or more people it's £60pp.
You can book just for yourself or a group. If you want to keep the cost down and you're happy to walk with others, we can advertise the day for others to join.
And of course, we can put days together to make two or three days of it if you like! Mix it up with a day of hiking, a day of navigation skills and a day of rock climbing - or whatever you want really. There are too many variations to type here so get in touch to discuss your ideas and we'll do our best to bring them to life.
p.s. it's not just for adults, we work with children too - especially if their parents come with them.
I’ve been away for a week and we had no WiFi. I thought I’d miss all socials but it was this fab community that I logged onto in moments of WiFi heaven. These little squares give me so much joy and inspiration. Here are my stone family which I’m going to stick in a frame. I’m always bringing home a holiday momento. What do you miss or bring home from hols? #instalovesunday#visionpaservices#virtualassistant

Community of Microbes - I'm all about gut health and helping my clients develop a healthy microbiome because as a nutritional therapist I have learnt so much about the different microbes and it's fascinating!! We need to learn to work with the bugs so they help us stay healthy. Its important to get a community if bugs that work well together and with your body.
Did you know the bugs in our gut massively affect our health? .
Our gut microbes:
🥦 influence our metabolism helping us stay lean or making us put on weight
🍉interact with our immune system to help us fight off pathogens or become more susceptible to illness
🍋create hormones like serotonin, our happy hormone, which influences our mood
🍇create vital vitamins like our B vits and vitamin K
🍏make Short Chain Fatty Acids which help reduce inflammation and give us energy .
So look after your bugs by feeding them lots of fibre, eating a varied diet rich in plant colours, lots of healthy fats and protein and taking time to move your body regularly. Relaxing is also important so take a bit of down time this Sunday to chill, the bugs will relax too! .
The hustle, hey? It certainly takes a village to keep me going and not give up. I’m blessed with my immediate friends and my team who support me in the background and keep this dream rolling. @lorna_t_b, @thevintagegiraffe, @londonundrground @alexvanv
But there is also the speaker #community around @speakerexpress, my professional body for Personal Stylists @fipi_stylecommunity who help me with expertise and professional development, @janetmurrayuk’s tribe that I grow to love via her free FB group and weekly Twitter Hour and everyone in the sustainable fashion world that believe in the WALK IN WARDROBE™️ concept.
Community is up to you. The more you give the more you get in return. You can’t “make it” on your own. So choose your crowd wisely, and be humble enough to accept others are better at some things than you are. Be modest enough to know your limitations and when you need to outsource. And dream wildly enough to keep at it, with your #community backing you.
Who is part of your community? How are they supporting you and your business? How did you choose them? Or maybe they chose you?
Let me know in the comments below 👇🏻
Every single study on resilience I have found stresses the need for social connections. In the past, our community was the people who lived close to us. We worked in close geographical proximity to where we lived and our community was based around that. Now people commute much longer and also work from home, sometimes leaving us in need of a community connection. But we can get that need met by finding our online communities, our tribe. I know I have my tribe in some good online groups I have found. Knowing I have people I can connect with who understand the trials and tribulations of a work from home business owner makes me feel part of a wider group and validates my sense of self and purpose.
So if you haven’t found your tribe, get out there and discover it. And if you have, think about what you can do this week to strengthen that sense of connection. Just because you start online doesn’t mean it has to end there.

This is our kitchen table, the place where you will find the family eating, the children painting, playing with play dough, cutting and glueing and in the fringe hours I will be there working. It can sometimes feel lonely trying to start a small creative business and that is when I remember that I have all of the support that I need from the wonderful community of Instagram...all I have to do is reach out and ask. Thank you pocket friends! Joining in with @janmurrayuk #instalovesunday such a wonderful idea to celebrate this lovely community x
I found this picture by #out_inthefield and it really resonated something in me. We might be on different paths in life but one thing we can’t do without is each other. Your community - friend, family, neighbours, support groups - are so important. There’s nothing better than to talk and listen to people from different walks of life, experiences and ideas. This is what makes us grow and become better people. I’m so thankful for the wonderful people in my life #happysunday#instalovesunday#loveyourcommunity#sendingoutsomelove#takethetimetolisten
This feels poignant this morning. I love old things and have spent years fixing up my Edwardian house, restoring or adapting vintage furniture to give them a new lease of life. But I’m not a hoarder and if something is irreparable, it’s gone. I’m blessed with a wonderful family and truly incredible friends. However, I am estranged from a set of blood relatives (family no longer feels like the right word for those people) and have ended friendships that weren’t equal or loving. For me, the bridges are the world around me and it’s my responsibility to ensure they support me being my best self.
Ten little fingers, and ten little toes...
This was one of our favourite books to read to my daughter when she was a baby. And she still loves books now, so I jumped at the chance to write a guest post for the fab @books_pieces recently.
Amanda who runs Books & Pieces spends her time sourcing brilliant books at low prices, offers a monthly storybook subscription and runs a Facebook group all about early years books. I definitely recommend heading over to her website if your little ones are keen readers too.
Over on her blog this week I'm sharing my tips for taking better book photos for Instagram. Just head over to her bio if you'd like to read more...
• MEET YOUR MATCHA DRINKER •
Who is drinking matcha? This month, we talked with Dr Pragya Agarwal. Pragya is a Creative Strategist, TEDx Speaker and Founder of a creative studio @hedgeandhog_prints and social enterprise @the_art_tiffin campaigning for creativity and mental health. Pragya's ability to juggle her ultra-busy work life with her personal life (her twins are just two years old) is nothing short of incredible. She was recently diagnosed with cancer and is trying to lead a healthier lifestyle. Matcha helps her when she is feeling tired or bloated and also makes her feel energised and uplifted.
Let's see all the hearts for this super inspiring matcha drinker 💚💚💚

Repost from @minifirstaid using @RepostRegramApp - If you've got a little adventurer on your hands who can usually be found half way up a tree, it's inevitable that there will be bumps and scrapes. Kids are pretty resilient and usually bounce back but bumps to the head can be dangerous. Knowing what to look out for and when to go to A&E could potentially save your little one's life. Common signs to look out for - bruising & swelling. If you notice bruising or swelling after a bump to the head you must:
- Get your child to rest
- Apply a cold compress to the injury for at least 10 minutes.
- Monitor closely - if they show any of the following symptoms go straight to A&E: dizziness, nausea / sickness, drowsy or a desire to sleep, slurred words, confusion.
Remember, these are common signs and symptoms but always trust you instinct - if you aren't happy always seek medical advice. It's always better to get little ones checked out than take any risk. .
