Skunk encounters were the name of the game this morning for both @aprilboultbee and me during our separate early morning workouts. I met two skunks in Coronation Park as I was running on by. I didn’t sleep well, but I got up at 4 am and decided to give my Tempo workout a try anyways and it actually went rather well. 173-mile /273km G2G Ultra update: / @sgtsunshine007 is through CP6 (40-miles into Stage 3), with only 13-miles to camp.
At 12:45am, he was completely exhausted hiking into @Lou’s & my CP6. He ate, slept by the fire and was off, a little shaky, to CP7 by 4:35am.
On top of having had 2 knee surgeries, he’s been pushing through an upper respiratory infection (picked up, last week, from doing search & rescue in SC for Hurricane Florence). These races come down to mental toughness. He can do it! Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 he completes Stage 3 and moves onto Stage 4 (26.2-miles) on Thurs.
The Balanced Athlete has been such an integral part of my life for the last few years. It’s been a safe place where I have always felt welcome through both my highs and lows. I’ve loved every one of the hundreds of runs I’ve done with amazing people, and I am sad that tonight was the last of the TBA Run Series. So proud to be a part of this amazing community. Today was tough. The wind was blowing and the rain was squally and cold. And to be honest my heart really wasn’t in it at all. But I knew that I had the chance and would regret it if I didn’t get out. So I planned some run play - to hit MP on alternate kms, add in some hills to replicate the start of the Auckland marathon and to finish strong. Which I did 🙌🏼 and no regrets...
So this was a tough race start for me as I've never run at 6000 ft before. I almost turned around at the first hill(which was within the first 1/4 mile) because I had trouble breathing. I just kept telling myself , just make it through the first mile. I did, and it got way easier. I also finished faster than anticipated! #truckeemarathon#halffanatics#inknburn#nevergiveup 💪

Had a really good run this morning - except when my iPhone decided to call 911 AND notify my emergency contacts. Not my finest moment.....lol. Other than stopping to tell both 911 and my mother-in-law that I was fine, I ran the entire thing. No walk breaks. .
I wasn't sure how my legs would feel after yesterday's 7 mile speedwork but surprisingly, they wanted to go, go, go. I ended up running too fast. Oops. But I'm happy that my first back to backs of medium distance runs went well. I think this means that long back to backs will be starting soon. 15 miles down for the week, 20 more to go.
