4 years ago I went to India on a wild textiles tour with a bunch of 60+ year olds! One amazing night was spent in @salim_wazir home viewing his amazing collection of vintage Indian textiles. How stunning is this heavily embroidered throw?!! 😍
We stayed for dinner and it was one of the best meals I had in India! 😋 The chicken was the seriously the best chicken dish I have ever had, and I’m vegetarian!! 😂 Most of the time.
Thank you Mr Wazir and your family for a memorable night!
Swipe to the end to see a really dorky photo of me!
The seventh day of Navratri is dedicated to the Goddess Kaalratri & the colour 'Red’ is generally worn on this day.
Today, I wore a red 'GARA’ with white embroidery in the sari’s border. The ‘Gara’ also known as a 'Parsi Gara’ was worn by Parsi women since 650 AD.
The original garas were colourful, became status symbols in Parsi homes because of their trade links with China.
Have you ever wondered why the traditional 'Parsi Gara' had white embroidery?
I learnt yesterday from @ashdeen that the ‘ Sadra' or the holy vest was worn by all Paris's including women. This was made of white ‘malmal’ & would sometimes show over their colourful Garas.
To circumvent this & camouflage the ‘peeping Sadra’, the beautiful & stylish Parsi women customised their sarees using white embroidery on dark fabrics & styled their look with strings of pearls.
The saree I'm wearing has been worn many times by my mother and was recently handed over to me by her.
I have renewed respect for all my hand embroidered sarees as I learnt yesterday that if you have to get such embroidery done now, it would cost you a small fortune!
Long Navy Blue or Midinght Blue georgette kurta and dupatta set with self coloured chikankari and potli buttons on the front length of the kurta.
This colour is really, really Stunning and in trend at the moment! Plus, it'll look good on literally everyone!

Waiting for a rich husband to buy me this chair... DM me for potential matches. #donttellthebf 😂😂😂
I don’t mind passing on this hand embroidered chair, but I’m glad I bought this vintage skirt from @the_peahen s popup consignment shop! It is so lightweight and I can dress nice and conservatively to assimilate to Indian style standard. 💕💕💕 can’t wait to raid another pop up in the future!!
