It’s day 5 of #10thingstotellyou and today I’m sharing something I have mixed feelings about. This sweet girl is turning 12 in a week which means in 53 weeks I will have a teenager. This gives me mixed emotions. On one hand I’m excited to discover and get to know the young woman she is becoming. There will be many exciting memories and moments during her teenage years. I also know that teen girls and their moms can make each other crazy and have brutal arguments and not get along. Those days worry me. I also know that the older she gets the scarier the problems she can have become. The teen years bring peer pressure, dealing with boys and eventually driving. I’m going to try to enjoy 12 as much as I can and do my best to not think of these upcoming teen years 😍
Not only did a couple of pumpkins pick out a couple of pumpkins this morning, we even pulled out the trick-or-treat pumpkins too 🙈 You can blame the sudden drop in temperature for inspiring our Saturday plans 🎃🎃 #happyfall
And just like that, it's fall. I'm trying to bottle a little of her excitement. 😏
Ordered a cozy sweater for me and some new knits and sneakers for Elle. Dove back into making soups and drinking tea all day long. We're trading the back yard pool and beach days for rainy day walks and movie afternoons. I'm googling how to grow flowers in the winter, but otherwise I feel I'm coping well. Fall, you are very welcome here. 🍁🍂
My mom has the kids this afternoon and ALLLLL night!!! I don’t know what to do with myself. I finished a big DIY project (in my stories), now I’m working on html coding for my blog 🤦🏼♀️(I’m so clueless), BUT I feel like I should do something lazy or whimsical. I’m just to practical! What do you do when you don’t have your kids?!? (Besides freak out and eat junk out in the open. 😂)
I am a competitive person by nature. Mini-golf. Board games. Soccer. Pretty much anything.
Truthfully, I wish that I wasn’t.
I wish I didn’t care. Handled any outcome, win or lose, with grace. Didn’t feel internal pressure to always be at my best or, worse, THE best. Didn’t need to constantly work at untangling my identity from my performance.
If there’s anyone in the Bible who gets me on this, I imagine it’s the apostle Paul. He’s accomplished, knowledgeable, eloquent, needs reminding to rely on God in his weakness, and is a bit of a spitfire. In the New Testament he pulls out images of competition and describes his life like a race with a prize.
“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Phil 3:14 (ESV)
Am I running my life concerned with the right, ultimate, eternally significant prize? Or am I distracted by the races others are running? Am I distracted by people around me critiquing my metaphorical running style? Are my eyes fixed on the right prize?
And more race imagery....
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Heb 12:1-2
Fix our eyes on YOU, Jesus, in this race you’ve laid before us. May you be our example. Let us see you as the prize. Let us not think that WE are the prize. Let our small life victories along the way not direct others’ eyes to ourselves, but to you, God. Help us to train our kids that though there are many prizes in life, there are none that matter with the significance of running towards you.
What do you find most challenging about running the race set before you?
Do you identify as a competitive person? What do you find are the strengths/challenges of being wired this way?
A Mama and her babes. We held up some middle aged guy who was having one of those loud “important business” calls “that everyone has to hear” to take this pic 😆🖕🏽 ...and I was all like “aww nah take another one hun... oh can you take more?” Just to be a pain 🤷🏻♀️😂 also... Corey thrilled as always to be in the photo 😏🤦🏻♀️😂 #mamabearandhercubs
Shout out to this babe. She runs 2 successful businesses @fitnessinthecity_ and @littlewildlingco (her Chai is my go-to!), she’s an amazing mum and she’s just an all-round awesome person. (She’s also a perfect client but I’m probably just a bit biased 😜) I really don’t know how she does it! Being a mum alone is hard enough isn’t it?? ⠀⠀
This little shoot was jam-packed and if you look carefully you may even catch a glimpse of my very own kitchen 😆 I love working so closely with my clients and they usually end up being good friends as well as clients. ⠀⠀
Actually, I love what I do! I wake up every day thinking how lucky I am to do something I’m passionate about and sometimes have to pinch myself that my dream job is my real job and I can still do it while being a mum. As challenging as that can be! ⠀⠀
Seriously, challenging is an understatement. It involves late nights, early mornings, relentless streams of emails unanswered, huge bouts of imposter-syndrome and a whole lot of mum-guilt. Not to mention all the love and dedication you’ve got to pour into two different pools. It’s a constant juggling act! It can be super draining 😅
If you know any other super ladies hustling their dream job while still being a kick-ass parent - tag them here! Let’s all support each other and give each other a virtual back slap ‘coz we deserve a frikkin medal 🥇😂
And thanks to all my amazing clients for always supporting me even when I’m being a bit crap because I’m busy trying to juggle my mum card 😂 You know who you are 😘
This little man is 6 today! He’s our strong willed little one who is always making us laugh with his humor. He loves garbage trucks and anything carmel flavored. He enjoys looking at car mufflers and reading books about the army. He’s equal parts ornery and loving. His smile is contagious and his energy is abundant. He’s learning empathy and generosity and has made amazing strides with both this year. We are so proud for what year six has in store for this boy! He’s forever loved and forever ours! #ashermichael
It’s fitting that the first day of Fall should be spent in bed with a cold, eating chicken noodle soup, & starting the first book of the Kingdom Culture Course by Bethel. I’m excited to walk this journey together with my husband & expectant for what God wants to speak into our hearts. ❤️
Happy First Day of Fall!
In honour of the first day of fall I've set the date 😍 the ready to ship velvet rompers will drop on FRIDAY NIGHT.
Custom orders are always available. RUBY (pictured) is currently on backorder and has a three week lead time until further notice. If you're after this beautiful red (hello Christmas photos!) there is one in the RTS drop 😉
Fall is here! 🍂 Miles is getting more inquisitive and adventurous in his nature, which makes exploring at this age the best!
This is on of my favorite pics from last year 💙 I’ve been working on a huge project that’s keeping me busy till the end of the month, so no time for new pictures!
Who else ran into Saturday? I love his picture! I love playing games with the families I photograph and I love my Saturday’s!! We are not a sleep in kind of family. In fact we do not sleep in at all! We often pack our days to the brim. Today, Chinese school for the kiddos, date morning for mama and dada, a quick stop off at the new Museum of Contemporary Art and a studio visit to our favourite guy, @waltersegers and we are finishing it off with a movie under the stars!! #loveourfamily#family#saturdaysrock#wychoodbarns#torontofamilyphotographer#torontophotographer
We never know what someone else may be going through. It’s easy to let things other people do or say upset us but we cannot control the words or actions of others, only our reaction to them. Coming from a heart of forgiveness brings peace not only to our own souls but may be that bit of kindness that helps another see the light. Instead of reacting (which we have all been guilty of) just take a moment, slow down, and be kind. 💕
6 years ago we had a song by @bhwrd play at our wedding. .
“...give me shelter, or show me heart. Watch me fall apart.” The last 6 years has been a lot of just that. Protecting, loving, and learning about one another. It has also brought a lot of moments of watching the other completely fall apart.
Sharing life with someone else and learning to appreciate every little detail about another person is WILD. But I wouldn’t choose it any other way.
Tonight we are seeing @bhwrd live to celebrate 6 years married. Here’s to many more years, many more adventures, and watching our little creations become something special.
The tradition continues! From me cheering on the Admirals to Aunt Caroline and now on to Kate’s very 1st time! She had a blast!!Thank you @baysideacademy for a night to remember! #wegotspirityeswedo#baysideacademy#legacy
