Guys, I have always been one to love my sleep!! For this #MichellesThursdayThings I want to share how good sleep 😴 has helped me change my business.⠀

I don't know how many of you ever wake up feeling ready to go? You jump right out of bed, full of energy. Can anyone relate!? A good amount of REM sleep can make you feel like a whole new person in the morning! 💪💪 ⠀

I value my sleep A LOT! 💞⠀
⠀
I believe that the highest-functioning people are those that get a good nights rest, every single night.⠀
⠀
And, I believe that part of the reason for my success in the last 18 months, is not only from learning from my mistakes, but also that I've made sleep a ❗priority❗. ⠀
Your brain is one of THE MOST powerful tools of your whole body. If you're functioning at a high level, not only are you going to be more efficient with your work, but you'll do more in less time. And, who doesn't want extra time!? ⏰⠀
⠀
With that extra time, I can work more, or work less, spend more time at the gym, do yoga, go get acupuncture, spend time with friends, or whatever else my heart desires. 🤗⠀
⠀
When I don't get enough sleep, I feel drunk, or like I have a hangover the next morning. That is not the way to achieve success! 👎⠀
⠀
I 🧡LOVE🧡 sleep and I invite each of you to try getting AT LEAST seven hours of a sleep at night!⠀

Oh! And, I do still drink coffee ☕, but I drink it more for the taste, than for a pick-me-up.⠀

Even when I belonged to a gym I enjoyed going to, I NEVER woke up that early. 😂

But here I am killin' it, actually waking up that early without an alarm, or when I do use the alarm not hitting the snooze button, and actually stoked to workout in my living room. 🏡 
Talk about convenience! 😏

Why am I excited? Because I've lost 30lbs from my house by dedicating only 30-40 minutes to myself most days of the week. Because I'm so much stronger than what I was even when I went to a gym. Because I feel so much better and am confident in myself.
Because my clothes fit so much better and my smile has become an accessory again! 👄❣

I know what it's like to start slowly, to tumble back, to get back on, just to keep making mistakes. Hey we are all human! 🤷🏻‍♀️
But I'm here to help you through them. Give me 2 months and I'll get you results. Promise 😘

Despite years of all-nighters during medical school & residency, I found myself utterly & completely exhausted upon becoming a Momma. Unlike my training, when I had assured periods of “catch-up” sleep, the sleep deprivation that came with motherhood was relentless!
.
Overnight, my newborn daughter often woke up every 1-2 hrs to feed. During the day, naps were unpredictable. It was very hard to reconcile my preconceived notions of what my maternity leave would look like – time playing joyfully with my baby, going on fun outings, & staring star-struck into each other’s eyes. Replace this with bleary-eyed attempts to make it through life’s daily necessities while wishing I could be more fully present for my daughter’s fleeting infancy. 
I know my experience was not unique. Numerous studies have shown that new parents fall short on sleep. One study, conducted in the UK, found that parents lost the equivalent of 44 days of sleep during their child’s first year. In addition to fewer hours of nightly sleep, new parents face broken sleep & uncertainty about the night ahead. To top it off, many Moms are often sleep deprived – even before baby is born - due to poor sleep during pregnancy.

Sleep deprivation has multiple negative effects. It reduces mood (increasing risk for post-partum depression) & negatively impacts our ability see problems from different angles, switch between tasks, find the right words at the right time, problem solve, & complete tasks. 
What can new parents do? Be kind to yourself. Perfect parents don’t exist. Let go of unrealistic expectations.  Make sleep a priority including naps & an early bedtime.  I’ve been there, buried under laundry, dishes in the sink, & requests for baby photos filling my inbox. Parenting is hard enough but sleep deprived parenting is that much harder. Avoid screens, exercise, caffeine, & alcohol before bedtime – all of which can interfere with sleep onset and/or quality. Reach out to family, friends, your doctor & community for help. Limit visitors & commitments. Help your baby develop healthy sleep habits (see link on my profile).

Unlike my training, when I had assured periods of “catch-up” sleep, the sleep deprivation that came with motherhood was relentless! . Overnight, my newborn daughter often woke up every 1-2 hrs to feed. During the day, naps were unpredictable. It was very hard to reconcile my preconceived notions of what my maternity leave would look like – time playing joyfully with my baby, going on fun outings, & staring star-struck into each other’s eyes. Replace this with bleary-eyed attempts to make it through life’s daily necessities while wishing I could be more fully present for my daughter’s fleeting infancy. I know my experience was not unique. Numerous studies have shown that new parents fall short on sleep. One study, conducted in the UK, found that parents lost the equivalent of 44 days of sleep during their child’s first year. In addition to fewer hours of nightly sleep, new parents face broken sleep & uncertainty about the night ahead. To top it off, many Moms are often sleep deprived – even before baby is born - due to poor sleep during pregnancy. . Sleep deprivation has multiple negative effects. It reduces mood (increasing risk for post-partum depression) & negatively impacts our ability see problems from different angles, switch between tasks, find the right words at the right time, problem solve, & complete tasks. What can new parents do? Be kind to yourself. Perfect parents don’t exist. Let go of unrealistic expectations. Make sleep a priority including naps & an early bedtime. I’ve been there, buried under laundry, dishes in the sink, & requests for baby photos filling my inbox. Parenting is hard enough but sleep deprived parenting is that much harder. Avoid screens, exercise, caffeine, & alcohol before bedtime – all of which can interfere with sleep onset and/or quality. Reach out to family, friends, your doctor & community for help. Limit visitors & commitments. Help your baby develop healthy sleep habits (see link on my profile). . Wishing you restful 😴! #sleep
