This morning’s cool weather was welcomed. The fog that came rolling in as I made my last decent down the trail was fun. With all of the horror movies I like to watch, I’ll blame that for why I pretended that the fog coming in behind me was going to kill me which encouraged me to run fast, lol. Mandy (2018) (NR) (121 MIN)
SYNOPSIS - A broken man hunts down an unhinged religious cult who killed the love of his life.
REVIEW - I hadn't heard of this movie until recently. I'm not a huge fan of Nicolas Cage in general but I do enjoy seeing him play crazy so I figured I'd check it out. Sporting a simple story that seems pretty cliche and standard for the revenge sub genre of horror, this one really drags on for far too long. Clocking in at 2 hours long, I was bored out of my skull for the first 90 minutes. That's ridiculous. I feel they could have cut at least an hour off and the outcome would have been the same. They spend way too much time building up stuff that seemed unnecessary to me. I don't need that much story. Just give me the basic premise and go. I did like the atmosphere but the slow burn pacing killed it for me. Seemed like nothing hardly happened until the last act. The acting was good and all that, production was great and the lighting and colors were cool. When the movie finally gets going, there is some badass blood/gore and the effects looked great. Unfortunately, I feel like too much time was wasted and I lost interest early on. It was a very boring movie for me. It's not a bad movie but it's far from great and I say watch it at your own risk. I give it 2💀/5
