Pizza is one of those foods that you could keep eating and before you know it, you've eaten the lot. I've found though that serving a huge salad with it and eating that first before you start on the pizza means you eat a lot less. Obviously plain greens like this aren't desirable for a lot of people but you could jazz up a salad by including tasty extras like goats feta, toasted almonds, haloumi, roasted veg or avo. Crazy how useful one kitchen appliance can be! Honorable mention to my Blendtec for pureeing like a champ! I topped this with chopped cilantro, lemon zest, a bit of paprika, a drizzle of olive oil and some chopped almonds! I used Trader Joe’s spiced lemongrass Thai almonds for an extra kick! This was devoured by kids and carnivorous husbands alike!!! This one’s a keeper! (Recipe link will be in bio).

I can’t believe it has been 10 years since my year away from North to South America. After arriving in Vancouver and going through California by bus and ride sharing. I flew to Mexico City and made amazing friends, learnt Spanish and also salsa, Cumbia dancing. Awesome time that I would never forget. 2008-2009 were pretty incredible years.  ps: since then I stopped smoking. 🇫🇷 Ça fait déjà 10 ans, que j’avais commencé mon courage d’une année du Nord au Sud de l’Amérique. Arrivée à Vancouver, j’ai traversé la Californie en bus et en covoiturage  avant de m’en aller vers la ville de Mexico DF. Today I was reminded that not long ago I believed that there where things I couldn’t do, things I didn’t even now how to do. That has changed I decided one day to make myself better and push myself beyond the cant’s, I choose to experience the joy of doing something I didn’t think I could do.

Specially when it’s not recommended to spend time outdoors because the air is very unhealthy🌫. Best therapy EVER! 💕Friends that turn into family 💕

Oh man! This week I was facing a huge mental battle. Mental challenges that sometimes makes me think twice if I’m doing the right thing pursuing my life goals. Do you all have those days? Where you second guess yourself and think that would be easy to just give up and get back to the corporate world? (Entrepreneur life)

Just wanted to share that I just made a huge investment on my self-development that financially is very scary but I know it will make me do things that are outside of my comfort zone and make me take some risks that will make me only grow as a human and on my business. 
I’m still facing some resistance about being more open with you guys about what’s going on in my life and what direction I want to take with my business. 
I know that investing in myself (financially) is a form of self-love, and respect. Investing in myself means that I’m serious about what I want my life to look like and I want to change. 
I also know that if I don’t pull the trigger and do scary things I won’t be as committed if I just buy another $50 online course. Seriously guys, how many $30-$50 programs have you bought and never followed through? How much money you have spent on quick fixes, 8 weeks programs that are sitting on your desk for the past 2 yeas? I’m guilty about that and that’s why I know I need accountability for a lot things because when things gets hard and I lose motivation... guess what? I start finding excuses and start procrastinating on my projects. 
I have made a lot of investments on myself for the past 5 years. And the big ones are the ones I invest my time and see transformation happen. 
Are you feeling stuck? Having a mentor in your journey will help you to stay accountable and on track with your goals. 
Are you thinking that you don’t have enough money to spend on yourself? Let me tell you that we all can make temporary sacrifices for the big picture. I’m making a lot of temporary sacrifices for my dream to come true. today I enjoyed this beautiful plate of apple cinnamon pancakes for lunch + enjoyed every bite of them 💃🏼 •  here’s the thing.. I don’t believe in deprivation and hardcore diets. I could have easily chosen to eat a healthy salad for lunch but truthfully, today a salad just didn’t sound good to me and that’s way more than okay. I ate this pretty stack and ENJOYED them + didn’t feel bad about my choice. •  honestly, I don’t believe strict diets are sustainable long term and depriving yourself of certain foods is not the answer. learning to listen to your body and the little signals it’s telling you IS the answer. allowing yourself to enjoy your food IS the answer. mindfulness around food IS the answer. food isn’t here to make us feel bad. food is here to nourish us and help us thrive. but it’s also here for us to enjoy ❤️

November Gratitude Project Prompt # 17:  Inspiration can come from anywhere and is often mysterious, but have you ever noticed certain people light up inspiration within you? Those are the kind of people you want to be around! Okay sometimes they are celebrities, but they might also be people who are close to you, in your family or community. By “inspire you” I mean that they help you feel more capable of reaching for your dreams. They help you feel a sense of clarity about your goals. Perhaps they help you envision a future that you want for yourself or they fill you with a sense of energy and go-getter-ness (not sure if that’s a word). If you don’t have anyone in your life who does this for you then your assignment (if i might be so bold as to give you one) is to start looking for someone who does. But I’m guessing you can think of at least one person who you look up to and who inspires you to do more. I’ve noticed that we sometimes take our inspiration for granted. We feel like we have to create it from scratch all on our own, and that’s silly! Inspiration can come simply from witnessing someone doing the thing you hope to do. It can come from reading a book or listening to a podcast or watching a film or listening to music, or it could come from taking with someone in your own community. Whoever gives you inspiration, can you feel grateful for them today? Can you thank that person? Even if it’s not someone who you actually know, could you write them a thank-you note? Or send them a positive message on social media? I know that I generally feel inspired and grateful when people share their stories and their truth. Witnessing others do so helps me feel inspired and courageous enough to do so too. It’s interesting how that happens. #nofilter This is what happens immediately after eating a gorgeous crusty, white flour bread bowl. Also, the soup the bread bowl held had tons of black pepper which I’m also sensitive to. Likely there were a long list of dubious ingredients in the meal. Yes, I knew better. Ugh.

Food allergies and sensitivities don’t always show up as GI upset. More often they show up as skin issues, depression, anxiety, or fatigue. The best way to tell is to eliminate common allergens for at least a month, then add them back in. Some people rave about how good they feel when they don’t eat certain foods. Others, like me, don’t really notice a difference until adding the food back in. Then *POW* skin rash and I’m sure there are GI issues coming later. Ugh.

•MEDITATION•

For the past week I have been honouring a commitment to myself to meditate every morning and I really love those small moments in time that are just for me. Time where I can focus on my breath and deeply relax before jumping into all the things that need to be done throughout the day.

Although meditation is something I have dabbled in for much of my life, I am finding that consistency in this practice is key to creating a greater sense of calm over my day that then flows on throughout the week.

I’ve found a time that works for me but I’m flexible if something doesn’t go according to plan. Because at the end of the day, taking the time to sit and centre myself is a form of self care, and we need to fill ourselves up so we can give to other from a place of love and overflow 💕

Today was glorious. I did 3 loads of laundry, took a bath, meditated. I haven’t left the house yet- but that’s a-ok with me. Last weekend I had the most amazing brunch served up by a Shed bride - who absolutely slayed the #shedapproved breakfast casserole from the #shedcookbook. Both ways to spend your Saturday are perfect in my opinion. How did you spend this snowy 🥶 day? Brunching or hibernating??

I blended one pack of @pitayaplus dragon fruit, one banana, 1/2 cup of mango, handful of spinach, and 3/4 cup of almond milk.

I've been consuming dragon fruit regularly since being back from Hawaii. With good reason too because the health benefits are amazing! It is a fruit that is indigenous to Central and South America.

It supports and boosts the immune system being that it's very high in Vitamin C and flavonoids. It's loaded with antioxidants which help destroy free radicals in the body. Free radicals are unstable molecules that attack the nearest healthy molecule to steal it's electron. That molecule then becomes a free radical and does the same and it continues in a chain reaction. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals by donating their own electron.

It is high in fiber which is great for digestion and gut health. Some of the fiber is made up of oligosaccharides which is a prebiotic that feeds healthy bacteria in your gut.

I am so excited! This morning I entered my next running event which will be on my birthday early next year (3/3)

Due to pregnancy, a hip injury & having 3 kids and running 2 businesses, my running has really been a struggle!! I also recently found out that my abdominal separation that was 2cm at my 6 week check had grown to 3cm so I was back to square one with my abdominal separation and needed to get this right before I could safely run as it was causing quite a lot of pain in my tummy and back.

I have been seeing an amazing Osteopath as well as doing clinical pilates but need to be more strict with my daily core & pelvic floor exercises. This was always falling to the bottom of my list of things to do!

This morning I woke up and I decided that I wanted to enter a couple of events leading up to a half marathon late in 2019. It's going to be quite a journey getting my body back to where it needs to be but I am always up for a challenge!

For me, running has always been a key part of my life to keep me feeling happy & fit.

This was my post workout meal, 2 eggs, slice of bacon, veggies and sourdough toast with avocado, olive oil and @Trader joes everything seasoning.

Sourdough toast is out of the ordinary for me because I generally choose not to include gluten into my diet.  I know it’s an inflammatory food and I feel better when I don’t eat it.

But, I’m doing a stool test next week and it measures your level of sensitivity to gluten, which I’m super curious to know!
*
*
In order to do that you have to eat 3 servings of gluten prior to the test.
*
*
I decided to go for some local sourdough bread! *
*
Sourdough has been shown, when made properly, to actually be a lot easier to digest because of the fermentation process, so is a much healthier source of a gluten containing carb. *
*
What is interesting is I started to get a little bit of panic about eating it even though I’ve never had any intense, immediate reaction to gluten, but I had to take a minute to reframe my thoughts and recognize the power of our minds.

Any negative thought I was having was only going to ignite or intensify a stress response in my body which is the opposite of what I wanted.

This used to happen to me when I was on any super strict “diet” or protocol, I would literally have a small panic attack over something that wasn’t compliant and that is NO way to live.

Food needs to be enjoyable and bring you happiness and used as nourishment, and if it’s not doing those things it might be time to re-asses your relationship with food, because it is truly such an amazing and healing thing we have access to.

So, when you have the glass of wine, or the chocolate or the sourdough bread ENJOY it and move on ❤️ happy weekend! *

Nourishing myself with this dreamy bowl of oats.
Made with mostly organic ingredients (cutting out all the chemicals)
It’s full of skin loving antioxidants from the berries that are bursting with goodness, fibre and gut healing oats, oh and those lashings of peanut butter - HEAVEN!! Recipe 
1/2 cup organic oats 
Sprinkle cinnamon 
1 cup @pureharvest cocoquench Coconut milk 
1 tablespoon pure maple syrup 
Mix ingredients in a  saucepan and cook till creamy and tender.

Topping
1/2 cup @oob.organic organic mixed berries 
Lashings of purelynutz honey & cinnamon peanut butter

When I went to college, I had no idea how to eat.  The dorm food was like a buffet, I had no one to tell me no when I bought cookies and pop tarts at the convenience store and it didn't even register when my clothes were too tight.
.
It's hard to believe that in only a school year, you can gain 15-20 pounds and not realize it.
.
I had never gained weight before so I didn't even see it happening to myself.  I realized it when family members brought it up and when I heard a rumor that a boy that broke up with me liked his ex girlfriend’s body better because she was skinny. That stuff stays with you if you let it.
.
I was sad, embarrassed, shamed and lost.  Back then, we didn't know what we know now.  I knew what I knew.  I also didn't know that I would start a life of disordered eating to keep my weight down and get approval.  I didn't realize that I would be a follower and try every diet and yo yo because of them.
.
The second time I dealt with my weight was when I had my son and went up 4-5 sizes.  I had a better understanding, but it was frustrating getting the weight off.  Nine months on and over a year to get it off.
.
Even when I was running marathons, I was so uneducated on food.  I ran an awful lot of miles to have the body I had.  I also wasn't aware of how helpful weights and HIIT training could be... and proper nutrition.
.
I don't want anyone to have to diet.  I don't want anyone to suffer with aches, pains, puffiness and inflammation.  I don't want anyone to feel shameful or bad about themselves. I don't want anyone to stay stuck in secret or emotional eating.
.
Fast forward through a marketing career, high school math teaching career and now nutritional health coaching.  I have always wanted to help people feel amazing and get unstuck.

So...I do understand and I am here for you.❤️

So...had to face the music with drinking alcohol again and it’s affects on me.  Puffiness, inflammation, eating more and brain fog.🙄🙁🤢

Working out 💪and eating well 🍏 can also be sabotaged with alcohol so I am limiting during the week. 😜I am on the verge of just giving it up all together.

👉👉I also seem to be fighting some things like thyroid, menopause🤪and you name it. I just don’t metabolize alcohol well so I really have to limit it now. 👈👈

So I did “all the things” like trying different drinks like organic wine, different liquor ... and it just was silly because I realized it’s just something I should not be doing. 🍹 I am only talking about me.😜

The cool thing about your body is you can choose to experiment and eliminate food/beverages for a while and go back to them if you want to. Nothing is absolute unless it makes you sick...then you know the answer. 🙌

Even being a health coach, I cannot always control what my teenagers eat. 😫In the interest of creating "treats" that are not so far off the healthy track, but also not filled with refined sugar, I play with food a lot.

🍌 These banana and chocolate chip muffins turned out really good. 🧐So here is the funny thing. I had TONS of bananas left from the health fair this weekend so I basically had to freeze some and bake with them.  I had to...

The reason I like these paleo"ish" muffins is you can put anything you like in them and base is not white flour and sugar.  If you like more fat, I believe they also would be good with some coconut oil in them.  If you are vegan, swith out the egg for pureed apple or apple sauce.  I am sure I had a good recipe at one time, but I just wing it now since I have made them before.

💫What's in them? (Remember I am still experimenting)
1 egg 
1 cup coconut or almond flour (I felt almond flour created a better consistency)
3-4 small ripe bananas
1 teaspoon baking soda
3 tablespoons almond butter (I am sure peanut butter would be great, but as you know if you follow me, I sometimes have sensitivities to PB)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
pinch of salt
.
💫Optional - walnuts, chocolate chips, oats
.
I am also thinking of adding vanilla (1 teaspoon) next time.

I wish I could say I added everything to the food processor in a special order, but I started with egg and bananas and then dumped the rest in...no order

I baked them for 15 minutes on 350 degrees.

Yes, I know that's not all "cook book" style, but it's how I roll. SUPER easy. One bowl and as healthy as possible.

🤩However, I can make a Pumpkin Spiced Smoothie. 🎃🍁It's sooooo good.  Even though I am listing my ingredients, I highly recommend always to experiment and play around with flavors you like.  I have only been using protein powder every other day so this smoothie didn't have any in it.  You don't need the vanilla if you have vanilla protein powder.

🔸1/2 cup organic canned pumpkin

🔸1/4 coconut milk (I used canned, but I also love @califiafarms)

🔸1 scoop @organifi (Organifi reminded me they have a pumkin spice GOLD, too.mmmm)

🔸1 handful greens (just because you can't have too much green)

🔸1/4 tsp fresh ginger (optional...we LOVE ginger)

✔️Canned pumpkin actually has some great benefits like magnesium, potassium, and iron.  It also has fiber, but is low calorie. Pumpkin is great for our immune system because of vitamin A and C.  It's also fun to try in many different recipes.✴️

Even though I am listing my ingredients, I highly recommend always to experiment and play around with flavors you like. I have only been using protein powder every other day so this smoothie didn't have any in it. You don't need the vanilla if you have vanilla protein powder. . 🍂Pumpkin Spiced Delight🍁 . 🔸1/2 cup organic canned pumpkin . 🔸1/4 coconut milk (I used canned, but I also love @califiafarms) ⠀⠀ 🔸1 scoop @organifi (Organifi reminded me they have a pumkin spice GOLD, too.mmmm) . 🔸1 handful greens (just because you can't have too much green) . 🔸1/4 tsp fresh ginger (optional...we LOVE ginger) . 🔸1/4 tsp vanilla . 🔸Ice and filtered water . ✔️Canned pumpkin actually has some great benefits like magnesium, potassium, and iron. It also has fiber, but is low calorie. Pumpkin is great for our immune system because of vitamin A and C. It's also fun to try in many different recipes.✴️ .
