Everyone knows that you can't wrap up the month until 6 days after the month has ended...
Yes this is really happening, I finally made it through the #igwritersmay daily posts, so if you stuck with me all this time, thank you for your patience!😂
So to be honest, I've not made that much headway with my goals, but I think I chose a lot of things which are something I can continue to work on.
I've been distracted by hundreds of other ideas and commitments, so though I haven't posted any parts of 'The Blessed' yet, it is something I will continue to work on, and in the mean time I've posted a lot of short stories and poems. In fact I've realised this month that short Stories and poetry might be my niche, because I get too many ideas to focus on just one thing, and the shorter posts allow me to express my ever changing mood✨
As it is, I feel like I've achieved something just by finishing the months posts, because I tend to be the sort of person that, once I start falling behind, I don't bother catching up, and just give up all together.
So, I think I'll take that as a victory, and call May a success! I hope you all had a good month!✨💛🌼
Okay so I'm almost finished with #igwritersmay even though we are welllll into June by now (what can I say, I work on my own time frame😂).
I love love LOVE author shoutouts, because support within communities is a huge thing for me and I love being able to support other writers. So although this may seem like a really long list, when I tell you I have had to cut down by over HALF I am not exaggerating!
If you're not on this list, let me assure you that I adore your writing, so much so that I've decided I'll be doing regular author shoutouts once or twice a week, so that I can eventually get around to sharing all of your amazing work!
For now though, here is a list of writers you'd be crazy not to go and follow:
Walking along the sun-parched path made dry from a week of heavy May heat, she closed her eyes; one step, two, a half scuffle and pause beneath one of the trees that sporadically lined the canal. A scattering of reed brushes held themselves just short enough to deny any real shade and just still enough to mock how little breeze the air held. Despite the grit in her sandals and flushes of prickly heat across her neck and chest, she found it hard to ignore what was before her. She pressed her palms into the rounded curve of her hips and looked at the lacquered timber cottage across the stream. It’s like could be seen in dozens of souvenir shops between here and Amsterdam; printed onto stroop-waffle tins and embroidered into coin purses. A weighty A-frame pitched and pegged centuries ago and standing today without bulge or sag; a testament to the ship builders who followed the river inland during quiet periods, when merchants waited on news of fleets returning either low in the water with goods or not at all. The lacquered paint, picked off in parts by reluctant teenagers who executed tiny acts of rebellion by refusing to follow their parents into shops, reflected the heat intensely. It looked like it would slip right off the house, like a boiled sweet left out in the sun. A ewe, plodding with its head hung low, panted so heavily it almost coughed between each labouring breath. It plunged its head into the stream and drank deeply, allowing cool ripples of water to slip up over its bulging eyes. As she watched, the last slick corner of her rocket ice-lolly slipped pathetically down into the groove between her thumb and forefinger, quickly melting into a sticky red-tinged dribble. She smiled and licked her wrist clean.
- A typed up diary entry from my trip to Zaanse Schans last week. Can you tell I thought it was hot at the time? 50% due to its being 31 degrees and 50% the 27km cycle causing likely sunstroke 😂
Happy Monday all! I hope you’ve had a good start to your week. My Monday has been silly hectic, but did start by rescuing a rather beautiful, if noisy, Siamese cat from the playground and walking it through school to reception. 🐈💕
I'd say my biggest supporter when it comes to my writing is my mum, as she is always encouraging me to be as successful as a I can be!
I also have lots of friends and family members who encourage my writing and will give me feedback which is nice!
My fellow IG writers are the best supporters to have because they'll always leave comments on your work and give you a big ol' confidence boost✨
Your girl got a lot of stuff happening this week and that’s why she’s been so late BUT for the last day of #igwritersmay here is my wrap up. I got basically every goal down except for the reading (I got new book that I wanted to read instead so whatcha gonna do?) but anyways I felt this was my most productive I’ve been in a while and it felt awesome. Thank you for this hashtag that really made me want to do stuff! -
I'm a strong believer that everyone has every sort of personality trait in them, and that those traits can take on their own sort of identity if you let them.
Though I get inspiration from everyone around me, my family, friends, and even those I pass in the street that grab my attention, I think every single one of my characters holds a piece of me in them.
My capacity for jealousy, anger, poor decision making, and all those other 'negative' qualities will be found in my hot headed antagonists. My ability to love, to see the goodness in others and give second chances, will shared with the naive, innocent character in my stories. The times when I am strong, when I keep fighting and pushing towards my goals, those are memories I share with the my warrior hearted protagonists.
In return, my characters give something back to me: they are strong in the times when I found myself weak, they are open to love for the moments when I am not- they help me to grow, to do over post mistakes and make peace with things I cannot change.
So, that is what inspires my characters!
What inspires yours?✨💛🌼
For both #maylitwrit and #igwritersmay this is my Day 31: #maywrapup
So I didn't get as much done this month as I had hoped. I got some worldbuilding done for both of my fantasy series and some work on my DCBB and secret project. Other than that I have kind of had to focus on real life more than I would have liked. Adulting is hard guys. I wish I didn't have to adult sometimes. Sigh. This month should be better for a few reasons: 1) it's my birthday month. 2) it's Pride month. And 3) I will hopefully finally have a new job soonish. Fingers crossed for a better few months for me guys. Also I will be launching my authortube on the 13th so yay!
Annnnd my catch up for #igwritersmay ⭐⭐⭐
Day 24: beta readers - are superheroes! They are the best. We couldn't do this crazy writing thing without them.
Day 25: book ideas. I have so many it isn't funny. Right now I am focusing on my Fragile Love novels and novellas, The Divide series, and Fables of Destiny series.
Day 27: dream movie cast. Can I cheat and say I just want the entire Black Panther cast, along with Jason Momoa, Chiwetal Ejiofar, and Zoe Saldana to play characters in a movie for my series The Divide?
Day 28: revision process. It is a little something like this but with more rewrite stages.
Day 29: writer habits. Anybody else a serial procrastinator?
So... I realise May is over today (Happy First of the month!!) but I am very fussy and I can't bring myself to look at an incomplete calendar on my insta wall, so I'm going to have to finish off the month over the next few days😂
Sunday's post was another writing prompt, so here's mine for you!
5 minutes. That's all the time there is between you, and the most important moment in your life. You're awash with an array of conflicting emotions, from anxiety and fear, to excitement and anticipation.
What's going to happen? What are yours or your characters thoughts in these few crucial minutes?
This could be fiction or non fiction, a poem or a story, of any length you like!
Please do tag me or use the #bodiposipoetchallenge for any prompts you use as I'd love to see your work, and maybe even share it too! (Side note: I can't see hashtagged posts when your page is private, so add me if you'd like!)
