I am excited to announce that I have been hand-selected by RAW Artists DC to perform my work at their next highly anticipated artist showcase called "CONNECT", but I need your help!
The event will be held @ THE HOWARD THEATER (620 T St NW DC), Wed, July 26 from 7PM-11PM. The event is 18+ & the dress code is cocktail attire. There is going to be local artists exhibiting art representing a variety of genres and mediums including visual arts, photography, fashion, music and performance art.
I'm writing to you to ask for your support so that I could be a part of this amazing event! Not only can this event help me network with other great local artists and expose me to 800+ attendees, it can help me expand nationally as well! ● 1st there is the chance to network and make new amazing connections with the community of artists they work with and permanent portfolio placement on the RAW website! ● I will have professional artist head shots done and receive professional pictures of my performance. ● I will have an opportunity to showcase again outside of DC at any other RAW location of my choice in a new market! ● I will also be automatically eligible to join the newest branch of their company called FOUND: Agency, which is a creative agency where they actually link up their artists with clients for work, campaigns, paid gigs, and similar opportunities!
All I have to do is sell 20 tickets to help promote the event, those tickets completely cover my cost of exhibiting. Your support would be greatly appreciated. The tickets are only $22 and need to be sold by Wed July 18 in order for me to participate. If you buy them from me, you get the pre-sale price and save $8, they go up to $30 @ the door.
You can purchase tickets right from my RAW artist profile: http://rawartists.org/asalaraqs
If you are unable to attend, you can still purchase a ticket to support my participation and help facilitate this great opportunity. This will open up a guest list spot for me to invite anyone who can attend.
Thank you! 📷 @enelaycreative

Here we go.. This year Father’s Day was a bit different for our family. This was the first one without my grandpa.. my dad’s first one without his dad. It’s just like, even when you think you realize how much one person could impact you, you just don’t. You can’t fully capture what is actually happening in those seemingly small moments. After we had dinner at my parents’ house last night, I had an opportunity to just sit on the back porch with my dad and reflect on the day.. and to reflect on Grandpa. My dad shared something that was really meaningful with me.. he said something along the lines of “ya’ know, when times get tough, most people are happy if they can just escape and find their own peace. They are content with just moving on even though others may still be hurting. But that was never Grandpa. Grandpa wanted to help. He wanted to improve others’ realities. I think he would even want to be back now if he could just help one more person” This idea of who he was is so true. Love was alive in him. Seeing Love completely alive in someone will shake you to the core. It’s why we are here.. it’s the point of it all. Love. I always enjoy thinking about the progression of things.. And as I look at my grandpa, I see something absolutely beautiful.. he lived, and loved, and moved on to eternity.. but he inspired his son. He showed his son what Love was. He passed down everything he learned.. he handed it all to my dad. My dad took what he was given from my grandpa, and ran with it. He opened his heart up to Love more and more.. he is still opening his heart up. He has always given of his time, money, belongings, and well-being just to see others come alive.. he believes in me and my brother; even when there didn’t seem to be much to believe in. He saw the good in us.. and he helped us see it, too. So as I sit and reflect on this idea of my Grandpa being gone, I realize, he is more alive in this world than ever before. The effects of his love are rushing through so many.. the love in him is still changing the world.. So, Happy Father’s Day, Dad and Grandpa. And friends, go be someone’s inspiration. Show them what love is. The world will never be the same..
Charcoal grilled ribeye, Arby’s curly fries, St Anselm’s iceberg wedge, and a magnum of Jordan Cab = peak dad’s meal.
Instead of the typical dairy-bomb that is ‘blue cheese dressing’, St Anselm’s recipe employs a roux cooked in rendered bacon fat (or duck fat), then simmered with plenty of water, cider vinegar, dijon and sugar to balance, reduced until it coats the spoon. At once meaty and luscious from the animal fat, with balanced tang and viscous texture; ingenious. Best served warm over the iceberg, topped with Stilton parsley and crisped bacon.
Trust on these Arby’s curly fries; genuine renegade/disruptors of the frozen french fry scene.
2009 Jordan - Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, showing well today with plump cherry fruit and pipe tobacco, then more cedar and mineral as it dries down.

Vintage stamp lover right here! I try to use appropriate stamps when shooting my work because...well...they’re just awesome! And they add a little oomph to my shoots. I used these #Einstein stamps while shooting the invitations for AFHU’s Einstein Award Gala. Cool right? Check them out. #linkinprofile#blackhole

Music gives me life. 🎷 🎼 I was a pretty sad kid growing up. I hardly smiled in photos for a few years. My parents did their best to give me a good upbringing and love, but I dealt with their painful divorce and being a bit of a loner in the only ways I knew how - through playing piano, reading the poetry of Langston Hughes, and going to Yoshi’s @yoshis_oak back when they were still in Berkeley, where I became obsessed with the sounds inspired by jazz legends like Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, and Jon Jang. Channeling my feelings through playing and listening to music on my own helped me to explore and appreciate both the darkness and lightness in life. #dcjazzfest#igdc#acreativedc#bythings#theamericancollective
