The Shrine; Baba Ghundi-The Dragon Slayer of Chipurson !!! Beyond Zood Khun is the mystical and holy Baba Ghundi Ziarat, a shrine to a Sufi saint said to have miraculous powers, and a popular pilgrimage site.
Legend has it that there lurked in a lake in Chapursan a dragon that daily feasted on a human sacrifice from among the populace. One day as a young woman, her name having been drawn by lot, sat by the lake waiting to be taken by the monster, the pious Baba came upon her. Having heard her out, he told her to return home and tell the people that they need no longer fear the monster. And when the dragon emerged from the water, the pious man cut it to pieces with his sword.
When Baba Ghundi first came to Chapursan (in Wakhi "what else is needed" meaning all needs are fulfilled in Chapursan), it was a green and wealthy valley but the people lived in sin. He went from house to house, asking for alms, but only one old woman offered him food. Baba Ghundi told her to leave her house and climb the hill. As she did, she saw Baba Ghundi riding at the head of a great flood that wiped out the valley and its people in punishment for their sinful ways.
The Saint's main blessing is to bestow children on childless couples. The main time for pilgrimage is in late September and early October.
