#SabarimalaReflections on #Women#Desires#ThenNow
Let me begin by saying, in recent history, there has never been a better time for us women in India, than now.
We have everything we could imagine.
Roots, deep to give us the wisdom. And relationships - fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, lovers, husbands, friends - warm, open minded, to give us the wings, the flight.
We have the best of what our mothers, our grandmothers, even our great grand mothers, had.
That said. There is nothing perfect. Not here, not now, not ever. For if it were perfect, there would be no scope for growth. And to live, is to grow. -
The above, and what follows, came to me very strongly as i was meditating this morning. And, even as i had been resisting, i could not stop myself from sharing this anymore. Much as i know it will make all of us with modern conditionings uncomfortable, i just have to say it.
So, with gentle apologies for the discomfort my words might cause, i begin. -
In India we have heard the numbers “10-50 age group women” repeatedly over the past few weeks. On television, on social media, on newspapers, in conversations. Ten to Fifty women. And said, almost in the same breath is the word “menstruation”, followed by “impurity”. The age group 10-50 of women not being allowed into Sabarimala, has nothing to do with menstural impurity. That has been said.
But what i intuitively sense is, that it has nothing to do with Menstruation as well.
It has to do with that deeper process that makes a woman release the old tissues. Prepare her womb with a new warmth. Release her invitation in the form of ovum, in an awaiting of what is the greatest act of creativity on this earth, a child.
This whole issue is at its very basis a struggle between two thought patterns - one ancient Indian, other modern western - concerning the most basic human desire #Sex .
How #AncientIndians have seen, lived it.
And how, #ModernWestern mind perceives it, lives it. —
I invite you to go back. Imagine.
From what we know, this shrine of Ayyappa and the sadhana traditions were set up in 1100s. 👇
I found this book for $1 at the dollar tree. It was a book I totally would have picked up at Powell’s, used, for near full price. It’s an art book with gorgeous pictures of interior design and fashion icons like CoCo Chanel and DVF. Rachel Zoe was one of my girl boss icons because she created a stylist career simply by pursuing what she loved and offering her expert curating eye and her critique. As a decorator and life stylist one of my tricks is to remove the sleeves from books. In my opinion they date the book and make it obsolete. There’s a reason there’s a saying, don’t judge a book by its cover! I also find that book sleeves are very “styled” in themselves and clumped together they look like cluttered chaos on the shelf. I really like white books they create a blank canvas from which you can pop any color or theme for table scaping. Try collecting hard bound books in a subject that interests you. I like white books, but you can choose any color scheme. Then use them to display a vase or collection of items like a candle and a magnifying glass or create height for a lamp. #bookstyling#books#fashion#design#onedollarhollar#designtips#interiordesign#aleansimonestyle#idie
Is there anything more natural than twinning with your friends?! Evelyn walked in the other morning, and I instantly demanded that Emma change clothes since she had the same shirt and they needed to match ASAP. This new phase of Momming is fun (the one where she makes friends on her own). 😊😂 #matchymatchy#kindergartenbesties#idie#brownboots#alwaysbethisadorable
I could not be more pleased with this meal at @sparrowandwolflv - The highs were so high, I completely overlooked the lows. First of all...gin, thyme and earl grey make perfect cocktail bedfellows. And then, the food 🤤- Potatoes pave with salmon roe, uni grilled cheese with burrata, beef cheek and bone marrow dumplings, roasted carrot with pear, lamb lasagne with burrata and miso, duck with foie gras and salted plum, octopus coated in kewpie mayo and corn flake with butternut squash and Brussels sprouts, chocolate eclair with miso creme en glaze and honey toast with huckleberry and Thai basil ice cream. #Idie#somuchyum#elisaeatslasvegas#Ilovemiso#misohungry#iwantalltheplates
