✨One of the most common✨ experiences that is brought to me in therapy from my teen and young adults clients alike, is spirituality. This is fitting since I am a Transpersonal Psychotherapist and I have been trained to help bridge spiritual and cultural traditions with the science of psychology, which I can do so when requested in sessions. But I want to talk about spirituality for a minute and the concept of it. There are so many layers to spirituality and its role in our everyday lives. And spirituality, well it manifests itself in our rituals, traditions, symbolic representations, religious beliefs, cultures…and so much more.
Yet the thing about spirituality is that a person’s experience with it usually entails loving it, being indifferent towards it, or hating it. See, spirituality is often thought to be synonymous with religion. People interchange the two whenever they see fit. Which, in some cases, sure. It works out because spirituality can involve religion. But spirituality can also be so much more than religious belief systems (in fact, spirituality doesn’t even need to be religious). I full-heartedly believe that spirituality is how we as people build our knowledge of self and of others, largely through both unconscious and conscious processes. Even more so, that spirituality relates far more to our cultures than it does to our religions, and that spirituality helps us define our individual identities, values, and boundaries.
All of that being said, our spirituality is ours to do with what we please. We are only required to speak for our own spirituality, and not for an entire belief system or tradition. This understanding of our spirituality is something I facilitate in my Teen Spirituality group and it’s something I want to invite YOU to take to heart.

So, ever since ever I’ve had a problem with oversleeping. More than 8 hours and I feel absolutely terrible. Fatigued the entire day, dizzy, moody, anxiety, and unproductive. You would think having a baby would fix that problem real quick. However, it just so happens I have the worlds greatest sleeper. I’m telling you, this girl can sleep. 12-14 hours a night no problem. I’ve got some insights fresh outta the loony bin for ya’ll. If mindfulness doesn’t come naturally to you, you have to FIGHT for it. It takes determination, will, and discipline. It takes SACRIFICE. It’s easy to stay distracted and mindless. Because it’s easier to stay in that routine.m and habit. You have to be willing to BREAK THE HABIT OF MINDLESSNESS. And for me at least, that takes daily and consistent meditation. When times get rough, it’s easy to say “I’ll meditate tomorrow.” But this is MY LIFE and MY HEART that I’m pushing off til tomorrow. It’s pushing my clear mind, the most pure gift of this existence, to tomorrow. You have to be determined to do what it takes to keep your clear mind, passion, and bliss. No matter how hard things get.

Say hiii to your favorite new treat: little freezer cacao, almond butter, coconut butter bites. 👋🏻 You know when you want a treat at night? Reach for one of these! They’ve made up of healthy fats (monounsaturated + medium-chain fatty acids) to help stabilize your blood sugar, promote hormone health, and keep your skin (and cells, tbh) super radiant!
1/2 cup coconut butter
1/2 cup almond butter
2 Tbsp coconut oil
1 Tbsp cacao powder
Flaky sea salt and cacao nibs, to top
- melt coconut oil in a double boiler. Gently spoon about 1-2 tablespoons into lined or a silicone mini muffin tray. Place into the freezer to set for 5 minutes.
- melt together coconut oil, almond butter, and cacao powder over double boiler. Carefully spoon onto hardened coconut butter cups. Return to freezer to set - about 2 minutes before sprinkling sea salt and cacao nibs. Place back in freezer and set for another 15 minutes.
- remove from liners and store in a bag in the freezer. Enjoy!
I love this poem by @tylerknott because it hits so close to home. A few years ago, i constantly felt like I was drowning. I would actually use that word to describe it to people. I barely had any energy to ENJOY this beautiful life and work of mine because I could barely keep my head above water with my workload. It was so bittersweet. All of these things I was so grateful for and yet I felt like everyday I was simply treading water.
It wasn’t until I finally got sick of accepting that as my reality and took massive action to ENJOY SWIMMING again that things started to shift. I was COMMITTED to finding the fun and the energy again in a big way soo I took it seriously. I embarked on a quest. I got inspiring mentors, I went on a healing protocol for my body, I saw a shaman, I rearranged my business, hired support for my biz and I consciously started to follow my fun again. It wasn’t linear, it certainly wasn’t perfect but it was SO worth it.
Today I am a stand for loving swimming and enjoying this beautiful life for as many days as I am blessed with. It’s not that I don’t feel like I’m treading water at times ever but my commitment keeps me swimming. You see, the items on my plate are just as abundant if not even more so, just as the sea is every bit as expansive regardless of whether you are swimming or treading water.
The difference is not what surrounds you. The difference between treading water and enjoying the swim is simply YOUR energy —- it’s how you CHOOSE to navigate the waters you are in. Everyday when you wake up and many times through the day, you get to choose. Do you use your tools and ground yourself in love, gratitude and joy? Do you DECIDE to swim even if your default goes to treading water? I’m not going to sit here and tell you it’s always easy — it’s not. However, it is SO worth flexing your muscles and choosing joy! Promise, it gets easier the more you show up for it. 😘

I’ll admit that sometimes when I’m out and about, I don’t want to share that I’m drinking because it might be the second night in a row. BUT WHY? who cares! the way that I perceive alcohol today is so much healthier than I’ve ever perceived before.
alcohol, to ME, is a social beverage that adds vibrancy to situations. It’s fun to try different kinds and explore different flavors🌸 I enjoy getting drinks with friends, and I enjoy going out to bars on the weekends! When I’m out, I try to order a drink that aligns with my diet, but sometimes it ends up being a light beer🤷🏻♀️whatever it is, I let myself enjoy it, and I take care of myself while doing so.
i’m incredibly thankful that I have a healthy relationship with alcohol, and I will do whatever it takes to ensure that that continues through the rest of my life✨ I’m not going to pretend that I live this toxic-free life, but I sure as hell do the best that I can🌙

Meal prep 🥦🍅🥕doesn’t only have to happen on Sundays. This week, Tuesday worked best for my schedule 📆 and I was able to prep these goods in just about an hour ⏰After being on vacation, I was glad to be back in my happy place, aka the kitchen👩🏻🍳! I’m on the go next week too but thankful for the time I was able to put in for myself yesterday. Confession: I am a total creature of habit when it comes to food! I could eat the same thing for days at a time and not get tired of it 😂🙈 BUT! Did you know our bodies thrive on a diverse, colorful diet! Now, there’s nothing wrong with routine and consistency, but when you feel like you’re getting stuck in an eating rut, it’s your body telling you to switch things up! 😬 So if you make a smoothie every morning for breakfast (like I do) try a new fruit + greens combination! Honey has an anti-inflammatory effect that can decrease local inflammation caused by acne.
Why manuka honey?
Manuka honey has natural antibacterial properties that soothes inflamed skin.
Try to aim for a manuka honey from New Zealand because it is 100% pure. I like to spot treat overnight and aim to do a honey mask 3-4 times a week for an hour at a time.
