#1 propel yourself as hard as possible
#2 maintain proper angles
Start #1 is the 7step approach which is still pretty powerful.
Start #2 is w the 8step approach.
Start #2 has better angles. Start #1 has more power.
Neither are particularly good starts (C-) but as the training season progresses I will surely show you some A+s
The East Region Championships was a success today. Our team pulled in 1 Gold, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze medals and our girls team placed 2nd overall in team points. What a great way to end the season as we had athletes running there personal best times. #rockcitystriders#trackandfield

BEND AND MOVE TO VERTICAL: Pole vault is an interesting event because you are adding implement that varies depending on your developmental level. Ultimately the goal is for the individual to take their mass up and over the bar. Both vertical and horizontal translation of the pole and body are very important. Better pole vaulters are faster, more fearless, and very strong. What is going to dictate whether a person clears the bar is multifactorial, but one major objective is to store and release as much energy from the biggest pole possible, and to move the pole to vertical at push off. That said, this why momentum is incredibly important. The stiffer and longer the pole, the more potential to jump high, but more difficult difficult to achieve because you need more momentum to ensure the athlete is able to benefit from both variables. This is not taking into account what happens once the athlete has left the ground. Achieving one without the other could lead to catastrophic results. The key here, speed. The best pole vaulters are very fast WITH a pole in their hand, and are unafraid to use that speed with a very high plant into the box. They are also extremely powerful with their upper bodies and incredibly coordinated.
As a side point:
Haven’t talked as much about vault recently so I thought I’d start to demonstrate that I’m not just a high jump guy, or a basketball guy, or a knee guy; I’m versatile.
I decided to sign up for the cornhusker state games sort of last minute. The last time I high jumped, long jumped, and hurdle was last year. For not training I didn’t do half bad. I jumped 6’4” taking 🥇, running 16.59 which got me 🥈, and 20’3” was good enough to get 🥉. Technique wise everything was there, but with more strength and power I could come out with bigger jumps or better times. Blessed that I am able to compete in this sport I love so much. Till next state games. 😊 #cornhuskerstategames#trackandfield#highjump#hurdles#longjump
