A good soup is like a warm hug...
My first attempt in making Hot and Sour Chicken Soup at home, and thankfully it turned out very good.
Weather in Kolkata is turning to change and winter has certainly started settling in.
Thus, soups can be a great addition to our diet.
What better way to enjoy this weather than with hot soup and piping Chinese food.
Visited the Kim Mun of Centaurus.
Starting off with the soup, it was ok and felt nice in this weather but to be honest, I was a little disappointed too. I had heard so much about this soup. It wasn't bad but it lacked that something to be so admired. May be it's just the wrong branch.
The Manchurian and Rice were pretty average, if not bad. I could've given them a chance and tried some other gravy if the rice were a little better.
Finally, the chowmein. It was delicious. One of the yummiest I have had. My friend is not a chowmein fan but boy everyone loved them so much that we finished the chowmein to the last bit while the Rice and gravy had to be packed for home. It was a little oily but so is chowmein. I loved it.
Overall, nice little place, good food, excellent service.

#HotnSourSoup has been my #GoTo staple oddly enough. I’ve always liked it, but the last few weeks it’s the ONE thing that I’ve come to find tastes “normal”. Even more odd, as I’ve sought it out at many places, I’ve found the best place has always been my least favorite to go. So I’ve been more the last month than I have in the last 6 years of living in bham area. Ohs Wells.
Anyone know where I can find it to eat at home??? #TheWalmarts ain’t got it. #TheKrogers nor #ThePigglyWigglys don’t either
Hot n Sour Soup .
Fall is one of the most beautiful – and my favorite – time of the year. The crisp and colorful Autumn leaves with chilly downpours make you crave for warm homely comfort food. It is the time of year, when we crave for soups and halwas. .
Sweet November memories make me nostalgic thinking about Pakistan where you find road side vendors selling soup at every nook n corner in markets. You don’t always have to go to a fancy restaurant as the vendor uncle makes equally delicious cup of soup:) Living abroad, one needs to put in a little effort to relive those food related memories. .
Making soup is not at all hard. You have to invest time in making a good broth as the base for your soup recipe. Followed by flavoring the broth with sauces, spices and addition of proteins and/or vegetables according to your preferences and lastly by thickening it with corn flour.
Hot and Sour Soup is the first soup of the season that I made tonight to celebrate Fall. My husband would always opt for Hot and Sour soup as it the best treat for him.

Vegan and Gluten Free Hot n Sour Soup! The idea came from @adams_mushrooms, we bought the cauliflower mushrooms and asked what we could do with them, they said they used em as a noodle substitute in Hot n Sour Soup! First I diced up an organic onion from @marlenesmarketanddeli , half of a Serrano pepper from @zestfulgardens, one home grown tomato diced up small, about an inch of ginger and 3 garlic cloves. I tossed that all in toasted sesame oil and mushroom powder. I let that sweat and sauté while I cut up the bok choy and made matchsticks from the carrot, both also from Zestful Gardens! Yay organic! I didn’t have bamboo shoots so I cut potatoes from @larchefarm into matchsticks as well! One celery stalk sliced at an angle and some more ginger because I love ginger. Placed that into the pot and covered with our filtered water. I also threw in 2 frozen bird eye chilis whole and about 1-2 tsp of @betterthanbouillon vegan chicken flavor! All the while my tofu from @costco was being pressed. Once I thought it was mostly drained I cut into small cubes and air fried in a light spray of olive oil for about 7 minutes. Rinsed and tore the cauliflower mushrooms from @adams_mushrooms into bite sized bits. Put the “noodles” into the pot and brought everything to a boil again. Mixed together my @bobsredmill corn starch and cold water to mix in. Finally, I added 1/4 cup of @marukanvinegar rice vinegar and 1 tsp organic white pepper! Sprinkle of pink Himalayan salt to taste!
I love having soups! 🥣 Especially with winters coming in- I can have a bowl each day!! My favorite’s Hot n sour- with right amount of spices and lots of green chillies in vinegar- unfortunately I don’t find it here in the UAE except for Peeking in Sharjah- but hey! I can make my own yummy kind too. Here’s the recipe for you to try as well- .
👉🏼 Chicken Broth( use bones to take out the yakhni- add a clove of garlic, salt and pepper)
👉🏼 One carrot 🥕 👉🏼 One Cup cabbage 👉🏼 One egg
👉🏼 soya sauce, vinegar , salt n pepper to taste.
👉🏼 one tablespoon tomatoe ketchup ( this is my secret ingredient.) 👉🏼 4-6 table spoons of cornflour mixed in water.
👉🏼Wash the chicken pieces. For 4-6 cups of soup I’ll suggest 5 chicken pieces with bones. Add around 8 cups of water with garlic salt and pepper and let it simmer on low heat until half is left- thats the broth you get. And at anytime if you feel it’s less, add regular water.
👉🏼 Shread the chicken intk pieces. Remove the bones. In the chicken broth- add the chicken and let it cook on low heat.
👉🏼 Add the chopped carrots and cabbage- don’t cook too much. Add in the soya sauce, vinegar, salt and black pepper- according to your taste. You can always add more veggies such as mushrooms, corn, peppers.
👉🏼Add a tablespoon of tomato ketchup and mix! Yum.
👉🏼 now slowly add one egg- I use the egg white only- but you can use all too. Lightly beat it and add. Don’t keep stirring. Wait for a minute so that egg pieces look nice and big. Elsewise they all mix together.
👉🏼 Now add in the mixed cornflour with water slowly to get the right consistency of the soup. I usually keep mine not too bulky.
👉🏼 Turn off the flame and serve hot with fish crackers or garlic bread! I didnt have either😭
What’s your favorite soup? How do you make hot n sour. Is it different than mine?
