The day is young here, but it is nearing midnight in Belgium, so I am rushing to post my tribute to Belgium’s national day, hosted by the most wonderful @servedbysoberon #HappyBirthdayBelgium !
Most drinkstagrammers have already posted their tributes by now, and they are so impressive. Mine is simpler, but equally passionate! I have had a love affair with Belgian beer for quite a long time, so that started as my focus. And here I have a most delicious Belgian beer, Delirium Tremens, in two forms - syrup and fresh. .
But what spirit to turn this into a cocktail? Well, genever is the national spirit of Belgium and also has a malty profile that pairs beautifully with beer. .
Next, did you know that Belgium is the second largest importer and exporter of bananas in the world? What’s more, the largest banana gene bank in the world is in Leuven, Belgium. Which explains the banana syrup here.
The Belgian chocolate goes without saying…
As for the chicken, the Belgian d’Uccle is one of the most beloved bantams in the world… and I grew up around chickens, so I have a soft spot there.
Delirious for Belgium!
🐑2 oz Genever
🐑.5 oz Homemade banana syrup
🐑.5 oz #DeleriumTremens reduction syrup
🐑2 Dashes lime bitters
🐑1 dash chocolate bitters
🐑Delerium Tremens beery by #Huyghe family brewery**
🐑Garnish: Grated dark Belgian chocolate (here 70% dark from Trader Joe’s )
🐑Mix first four ingredients with ice and strain into beer goblet, top with Delerium Tremens to make a good foam/sprinkle on garnish
. **Note that there is no Chimay in this recipe, but it is a another favorite of mine and I have the glassware, so… 🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑.

In the days of 12+hr shifts with no real break sometimes we would take an amaro and shake it up with a full ounce of bitters and a whole egg to curve the appetite and get us through. I sure wish I had Red Eye Rye back then because it works just as well. To keep the party going...
2oz Red Eye Rye
.5oz Angostura bitters .5oz Peychauds bitters
1 whole egg
*add ingredients to tin and shake vigorously
*double strain in case of egg shells
#Repost We love being a part of your cocktail recipes. Thanks @newcocktailguy for your enthusiasm for our sasaparilla bitters. Glad to be a part of your new favorite old fashioned recipe!
Just stumbled across these sasaparilla bitters at @catoctincreek distillery. So I made an old fashioned with them with their cask proof rye! Now this is my new favorite old fashioned recipe! #oldfashioned#catoctincreek#virginia

These gorgeous glasses are great for more than just cocktails! This thick coupe style glass was also known as a sherbet glass, and they are certainly sturdy enough to serve frozen delights as well as ice cold cocktails and champagne! How about a nice boozy granita??

🇧🇪 Cocktail of the Day : Napoléon’s Spectaculoos 🇧🇪
#HappyBirthdayBelgium ! 🥂
For @servedbysoberon ’s event, two things popped in my mind instantly : Genever and Chocolate (even though Beer and french fries also made an appearance), and I thought about a gourmet dessert drink featuring these two... I tried something, but I wasn’t extremely happy with the results.
Thus, two other things came to mind : Speculoos, as well as a Belgian tangerine/mandarin Liqueur used recently around the Drinkstagram Sphere (and by yours truly) : Mandarine Napoléon. Something needed to be done with these, and I think our dear friend @mix.mann inspired me in the process, following his latest posts.
In the same vein as the Cadillac Margarita, I deconstructed the drink into a liquid part and a foam part. First we have a creamy and spicy recreation of a Speculoos biscuit laced with Genever, followed by the foamy embodiment of boozy mandarin. I can attest that the result is delightful and amazing !
2 Egg Whites, lightly beaten
4 oz (120 ml) Tangerine Juice
2 oz (60 ml) Mandarine Napoléon @follownapoleon
4 Dashes Orange Bitters (2 of Angostura & 2 of Regan’s)
2 N2O chargers
Combine all ingredients into your iSi Whipper, set aside in the fridge while making your Spectaculoos*.
When that’s done, use your first N2O charger, shake for a few seconds. Use the second N2O charger, shake for a few seconds and pull lightly on the lever to layer the foam on top of the drink.
Garnish with some grated Speculoos biscuit and a whole biscuit.
½ oz (15 ml) Single Cream
½ oz (15 ml) Milk
½ oz (15 ml) Cinnamon Syrup @monin_europe
1 Barspoon (5 ml) Homemade Coffee Liqueur
1 Barspoon (5 ml) Homemade Hazelnuts Liqueur
2 oz (60 ml) Genever @bols_genever
1 Generous Dash of Ground Allspice
1 Dash of Angostura Aromatic Bitters @angosturahouse
1 Dash Xocolatl Mole Bitters @bittermens
Shake everything with ice, fine strain into a chilled Coupe glass.
🇧🇪 Cheers 🇧🇪
Trying my hand for the first time at barrel aging Negronis with charred oak spirals. Had to use a @suntorywhisky_hibiki Harmony bottle because I never throw them out. They’re too pretty. Now to wait two weeks. @campariamerica @campariofficial @vermouthdolin @postmodernspirits #NegronisForLife#NegronisAreLife#HomeBar#TraderScottsTikiBarAndLounge
Y’all, we have a bar! An amazingly talented carpenter built it with wood from the crates our personal effects were packed in. We broke it in today at a BBQ. And it’s so so so perfect. #homebar#foreignservicelife
What a week it has been!! Thank you again for all your prayers and support this week. We are home now and excited for Baby William to get his PICC line out Monday. Here’s the recipe I promised not too long ago! It is delicious, refreshing, and a great one to cheer to/celebrate good health.
Vincent has named this cocktail “Phantom Cries.” 🍸
Anyone else with kids hear those cries throughout the night and it turns out your kid is sound asleep? Or is that just us? “Phantom Cries” Recipe
1 ounce St Germaine Elderflower
2 ounces Tequila (we used El Espolon)
3/4 ounce Yellow Chartreuse
Dash of Aromatic Bitters
Dash of orange 🍊
Pour elderflower, tequila, chartreuse, and bitters into a shaker. Squeeze a dash of freshly cut orange into it. Fill shaker about two-thirds full of ice. Cover and shake to block out those phantom cries. Strain into a coupe glass.
Enjoy with someone you love!
