Just look at the gorgeous detail on this Art Deco style lounge chair!!! This is not your average wingback. This chair was definitely meant to float out in the middle of a room and not have its back hidden with its back to the wall. Originally sold by John M. Smyth Furniture of Chicago. The lines of this unusual chair are very sinuous. I’m reminded more of couture than furnishings. The golden yellow original upholstery is still beautiful after close to 60-70 years.
I always think it is fun to know some history on vintage pieces. So, here you go. This is a one owner chair and was setting in the same spot since its purchase late 1940s. Unfortunately, according to the son, in a corner against the wall, its beautiful back never to be seen. It was purchased from John M. Smyth Company long time Chicago staple which was founded in 1867. At one time they occupied a complete block called John M. Smyth Block on West Madison Street. Today the Kennedy Expressway goes right through where the store was located. Their family ownership spanned three generations. All John M. Smyths. And, aside from Marshall Field, John M. Smyth is one of the names synonymous with Chicago retailing. They severed all family ties to the store in 1994. And, in 2005, after nearly 140 years, the last store closed.
This awesome Art Deco style wingback lounge chair and all its history should be yours.

Another little corner of chez Divine Savages - the rest of the house is still a right mess after the bedroom & kitchen makeover!
So pleased we went darker in here – dark doesn’t have to mean gloomy and depressing - it’s created such a warm and elegant look. Layering lighting is key to get the mood right – and we are loving the pattern on pattern with our Deco Martini wallpaper and fringed velvet lampshades.

That’s a wrap! My outdoor market season is officially over for 2018! It’s been a whirlwind of a year and I thank so many of you for visiting and shopping. You are the best!! (There’s one more huge holiday show coming up INDOORS in December though so stay tuned for previews of what I’m bringing to @vmdakronmetro )
It was both a rewarding and physically exhausting season this year. We had five events with rain and one that was well over 90 degrees! Those conditions certainly presented a few mental and physical challenges. That being said I surprised myself with my ability to move some pretty heavy furniture around and was super excited to be able to source and find so many rare items I was on the hunt for. It’s been exciting to see so many unique items find wonderful new homes and I’m grateful to have connected with so many of you through sharing this collection of objects!
Here’s a peek at one section of the booth this past week. There’s a few items still available and you can click to see them in the shop online.
Huge thanks to my fellow market vendors and booth neighbors for keeping me sane or sharing in the insanity😉, for shared jokes and laughs and sometimes a touch of snark, for advice, for kind words, for helping hands and for friendship (and for not totally running me over to get the good stuff if we ran into each other out shopping 😂😂). @suzyqsredos @_victoriajanes @loisoleta @bettysretro (totally stole this idea from you btw Julie!) @wonderland_toys_cle @beourgast @blackkittenvintage @articles.shop @redressluvsu .
