I’m sure the commenter meant no harm, in fact, they were probably thinking they were giving her a compliment. However, it made her angry . . Before getting sick, I don’t think I would have understood the anger. However, I’ve been receiving a lot of comments (in real life) about my weight. I’m shocked at the number of people that tell me that they’re ‘jealous.’ . . My reaction ranges from anger to disbelief because I usually feel pretty rotten. I currently weight the same as I did back in junior high. This weight is not normal for me nor is it for any woman my height. I lost a lot of weight because I had a baby, started the AIP diet & most significantly can only tolerate a few foods . . It’s really hard for me to understand why people, that know I’m sick, would comment that they’re jealous. Are they jealous that I get sick to my stomach when I eat most foods? Are they jealous of the fatigue or brain fog? What about the muscle and joint pain? . . It’s never been more clear to me that my size or shape does not matter. What matters is your health. If you have good health, you should be thanking your body. Not wishing it away . . I’ve never responded to an ‘I’m jealous of your weight’ with jealousy of my own. I’m honestly not jealous of anyone else’s body even when they can eat whatever they want. I know that the way someone looks is fleeting. . . The thing is that I’m strong. 50 pounds ago, I gave birth to a baby (the photo is from when Tyler was 1 month). My current weight & health make that unwise. However, even now I’m able to care for my son & family. So I’m a strong mutha regardless of shape or size . . I’m with Alaena. The time for commenting on women’s appearance has passed. I’ve been testing out recipes that are typically nightshade-heavy without them and it’s been a fun learning experience! On Sunday, I made a big batch of this Bolognese (pumpkin purée in place of tomato paste and coconut place in place of cream) + lots of fresh herbs, mostly basil. Spaghetti squash goes a long way for meal prep as well, which makes it the perfect veggie to cook up on a weekend! 🍝

Someone told me I knew all this health and nutrition stuff because I was a nurse. Nope. I wasn't taught any of this stuff in nursing school, during my master's in child health, during my fellowship in mental health, nada, nothing, not in modern medicine. Not until the holistic specialists and nutritionist taught me more. That's when everything started to make sense.
I learned everything I know trying to save my son. He was just as normal as the rest of us as a young child, but I was losing him as he started to get a little older, it was terrifying. I know what I know because I have to know it. It not only saved his life, but mine, my husband's, my daughter's, and any client or patient, friend or family that has had the benefit of believing in me. 😊 Sounds extreme, but if you knew the stories, you'd understand. Life has to be lived and we have to be able to function to live it.

today may not have been a financially smart decision, but it was worth it. I booked my lovely dog walker and decided to keep her even though my after work plans fell through. since I didn’t have to rush home for Zoey the Dobie, I didn’t! it was a really weird feeling because getting her out after a half day at the office is always on my mind. I felt so relaxed and had no stress. Throw in a bit of cardio after the walks and you’ve got yourself a good work out! 200m run, or row! Or push for some cals on that bike!
Working out has been so helpful with preventing any morning sickness, sickness in general, and boosting energy levels while being pregnant. I haven’t had any back aches or muscular fatigue (pregnancy wise) and I do believe that is because of the strength training. Although you need to be careful on your feet! Wherever you are starting, even if it’s just walking for 10-15 minutes a day, start somewhere and MOVE! You’ll feel 10X better.

Every autoimmune disease that's been tested for the presence of leaky gut has come back positive! Upwards of 80% of our immune system resides right outside the gut to protect us from invaders. When the gut is leaky, the immune system is constantly stimulated by food that slips through the gut lining. By healing & sealing the lining of the gut, we can calm our immune systems, reduce symptoms, & possibly even stop the autoimmune attack! Awesome news, right? 🌼
The AIP is great because it excludes lots of foods that contribute to leaky gut. Gluten is one of the big ones, but other foods like egg whites, nightshades nuts, & seeds can be tough on an already irritated gut lining. That's why it's important to avoid these foods during the elimination phase - it gives the gut a shot at healing! 🌼
But healing isn't just about what we remove. It's also about what we add in! 🌼
Bone broth has gelatin & amino acids that help repair the gut. Collagen is another great source of amino acids for gut healing. There are even certain plants like slippery elm & licorice root that can help patch up the gut lining. 🌼
Making bone broth is easy, but I don't always get to a farmer for grass-fed bones. @BonafideProvisions makes quality broth - plus they're AIP! - that you can get at stores like Whole Foods, Sprouts, & Natural Grocers [I've found it on sale a few times at NG & always stock up!]. My collagen of choice is @VitalProteins because they're one of the best quality brands out there. I use it in smoothies or add it to stuff like coconut yogurt & guacamole. I've been loving this Flare Repair gut healing blend of botanicals + the amino acid glutamine from @openroadbotanicals, too. 🌼
PS. You don’t have to drink bone broth straight to get the benefits! [I *may* have thought that was necessary when I first started out & I was not a fan...I had to take it in shots!] You can make super tasty soups with it or use it in place of water when you make a roast! 🌼

EVERYDAY I’M BRUSSELIN’ 👏🏼🕺🏼 😛 ok, but seriously. Brussel sprouts are liiiife.
These green little nuggets are nutritious, rich in antioxidants, can help increase levels of detoxifying enzymes in the body, potentially can reduce the risk of cancer and (when cooked right) make a BOMB side dish. These are a meal prep essential around here.
Here’s how I do it... Cut off the base of your sprouts (I save these to make a dairy-free veggie pesto along with my other veggie leftovers when I’m roastin’ 🔥), and then cut your your brussels into halves. Drizzle your baking sheet (or cast iron skillet) with avocado oil, lay out the brussels sprouts halves on the pan (evenly, so there’s not too much overlap), and coat in avo oil. Slice up a fresh garlic clove and nestle the slices in with brussel sprouts. Squeeze half a lemon over them, and sprinkle with himalayan pink salt and black pepper. Pop in the oven at 350 for 35-40 min (enough time to watch some Netflix, write a blog post, do an at-home workout, or pour a glass of wine 😉🍷) flipping halfway through, and - there you go! #happyhealthyjoe#mealprepiscool#eattherainbow
This is the perfect drink for whenever you are craving something sweet, plus cacao powder is one of the best superfoods out there and we all should enjoy the amazing benefits.
On the other hand, children are the most vulnerable when it comes to processed foods, they are the perfect target for all the big companies and that is one of the many reasons why we need to protect them.
Most of the chocolate drinks out there are full of sugar and other artificial flavors and I don’t think that there’s a single kid who doesn’t like a good milk shake, that being said, I have the perfect healthy alternative!
1 frozen banana
1 tbsp cacao powder
1 tbsp shredded coconut flakes
1 tbsp almond butter
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup almond milk

Green tea pancakes 🥞! Happy pancake Tuesday ☺️
How can green tea make you happier? There have been study’s in Japan showing 44% less depression amongst those that drink ample amounts of green tea daily. Linking it back to the high amounts of antioxidants found in green tea.
Green tea also has L-theanine. This is an amino acid that is shown to help with calmness.
The caffeine in green tea can also boost your mood and keep you alert.
Just a few benefits of green tea consumption. For a fun twist I added matcha powder to my oat and almond flour pancakes. They turned out lovely and not too sweet at all! 💜
