It is with deep sadness that we announce Bob Proudman has passed away. Bob worked at the ATC for over 30 years and served as Director of Conservation Operations, contributing greatly to the protection of the #AppalachianTrail and serving as an inspiration for us all. Bob’s manual “Appalachian Trail Design, Construction and Maintenance” is still used as a principal guide by trail crews around the world, and he championed the volunteer force that is the backbone of our Trail protection efforts. Our condolences go out to his friends and family. He will be missed.
I am really really self-critical. I think the one person that I can never truly win over is myself. When I think logically about the things I say to myself (i.e. you'll never find success, your life is a waste, don't even think about resting when everyone else is making so much more than you), I know I'm just awful to myself. It gets so bad sometimes that life just isn't enjoyable.
So I just wanted to share that. And that I have some other phrases I'm trying to teach myself--like these ones:
I am not defined by work or my "successes"
I have good qualities (I'm loyal, hardworking, funny, empathetic)
Free time isn't a waste of time.
I think that I don't know a lot, but I wanted to share in case you say mean things to yourself too.
I finally made it hiking on the Olympic Peninsula and I was not disappointed. A friend recommended this little jaunt up a minor mountain on the NE side of the park and I decided to go see it for myself. Despite a few blowdowns (some wider than I am tall!) and one section of trail washed out by avalanche, I summited early enough to enjoy lunch with a view before heading back down. Alone with the spiders, I was happy not to see the cougars others have reported on this trail. All in all - a great hike. More pics up soon!
