I shot this amazing social circus project in Turkey this year. This story is full of hope, Kids are our future. Let's protect them and give them a chance to live a safe and colourful life.
“To play may seem silly in essence; but it is through play, that a child learns.” Hz Mevlana
SIRKHANE – SOCIAL CIRCUS SCHOOL FOUNDED BY ART ANYWHERE ASSOCIATION IN 2012 IN TURKEY, IN A REGION WHERE IT’S HARD TO BE A CHILD.
Sirkhane mission is to provide safe, friendly and embracing environment for children, who are effected by conflicts. Replace their damaged childhood with happiness and enrich the children’s imagination with colors of social circus pedagogy. Children have opportunities to collaborate and form friendships
with each other, beyond gender, social and cultural differences. In doing so, they manifest peace, harmony, open mindedness and cheerfulness in their local and global communities.

Thanks to @arxelu Alexis Paul and his magical street organ for his immense contribution to the festival and to @sirkhane:
He is born in Sables d’Olonnes in 1987, is a French musician, popular composer and cultural actor embracing a diversity of contexts, whose first professor was jazz-trumpetist Erik Truffaz. Out of any academic frame, he co-founded music projects such as Belle Arché Lou, Saudaá Group or Dianthus, and cultural projects such as Château Ephémère, Humanist sk festival, Armures Provisoires or radio show L’Heure Blanche. He has collaborated worldwide with many artists such as Mourad Belouadi, Hraïr Hratchian, Vardan Harutyunyan, Fujita Yosuke, Benoît Pioulard, Alma Forrer and many others. In 2016, he, alone with his street organ, got involved in a creative project around the world. While exploring ten countries he looked into the existing relationship between music and its environment. He focused his work on music as a ‘’tool’’ celebrating consciousness, on solitude and melancholy as powerful forces of interaction and mediation. He is interested in writing and ethnopoetics and is currently setting the stage for future cross-disciplinary actions in these areas as well as composing scores for the cinéma. #mardin#turkey#music#art#children#musicfestival#refugees#heryerdesanatdernegi#heryerdesanat#sirkhane#usembassyturkey
Time to continue introducing our visionaries of 2018: Vafa Aminikia, @vafaminik, born in 2000 in Iran, is a visual artist currently based in Germany, as a fine arts student in HFK-Bremen. He started his artistic practice with drawing and sculpting; but for the past few years his focus has been mainly on more contemporary mediums, specially video art and stop-motion animations. By using his personal experiences and by connecting them with fundamental philosophical questions he tries to create a feeling or even an experience through his works. #mardin#turkey#music#art#children#musicfestival#refugees#heryerdesanatdernegi#heryerdesanat#sirkhane#usembassyturkey
Flying Carpet 2018 is now over... The closing concert at Nusaybin Mitanni Kultur Merkezi was a mind-blowing event and completely in line with our vision about children and what they deserve. Thanks to the artists of different backgrounds who attended this artist residency and contribute their hearts and souls to make this magical event come true. Our mission was not to create any event but the best experience that artists can provide to our children at Sirkhane and all around the world. Flying Carpet will fly every year and will bring visionaries and artists of high caliber to where they are mostly “needed”. So stay tuned!
The @flyingcarpetfestival is spreading melodies and love to the children in mesopotamia. Many of them didnt see, listen or touch to a proper musichal instrument. Lovely Kevin, Helen, Abi and Elenor planting the first seeds of strings department in Nusaybin Sirkhane center. Tonight they have a lovely concert at Mardin Museum art gallery dont miss it. 🎼
