In the #IIHFWorlds#mediacenter at #jyskebankboxen in #Herning there were work tables, which you see in the background here, but there was also a lounge with various couches, chairs, coffee tables and cocktail tables too. It was a place to go when you simply needed to step away from your computer, eat somewhere other than your work station, or chat with a colleague, scout or team management. Every day, there were fresh flowers and candles lit and it always made me smile - mostly because they were beautiful, but also because who knew a media center could be so romantic 🤷🏼♀️🤣. None the less, I very much appreciated the thought and the effort behind the gesture! ✨
If I remember only one thing about my three weeks in #Denmark , I hope it’s the generosity and hospitality of it’s people. I haven’t met a Dane I didn’t like!! 🙂

We landed in Billund and came to Herning: the most challenging part of my life in Denmark, 2004-2006. I was a happy communications student but I also felt rejected & lonely.
Student jobs were hard to find also as I spoke English at the time.
On this main street I stand firmly. But in 2002, I was desperate to get a job to survive. So I took on a job crusade: took my CV to all cafes and restaurants & wupti, 2 weeks later I got invited to my first night shift at a local Murphy’s Irish pub - it was the place to meet for locals. I never served drinks or beer before so I was so happy for the trust of my coolest boss Flemse (Flemming) to hire me. And believe you me I knew the whole town shortly after & vice versa 😆😅 talking about belonging: I felt I was part of the community.
On the next pic you will see 3 guys who used to be regular guests, Kurt, Bruno & Michael and to our amusement we met again 14 years later. 🙌🏽🌷 Many things change but some do still stay the same.
I also have a granny here Aleksandra and Marina who were my go-to-family - originally from Tajikistan... these two brave ladies (mother-daughter) fled the war in 1990s to Moscow-Tallinn and later settled in Herning. Aleksandra is 89 and she never stops amazing me with her humor, eagerness & resilience to life.
Herning life was a reminder to me we don’t grow when things are easy. We grow when we face challenges. Something to remember when things get tough... #herning#dannelse#murphysirishpub#nevergiveup#herningfolkeblad#internationalstudentinHerning#studentmemories#grandma#bartenderlife#gratitude#whatdoesntkillyoumakesyoustronger#Herning#HIH#tilbagei2004#strenth#courage#resilience#sisu#hjemve
