Does your water bottle remind you to drink? Mine does! 😱
Two years ago, I was at a chiropractor appointment, and my chiropractor said to me, “You’re dehydrated.” I thought about it and realized that at 3:30 pm, the last time I drank any fluids was my coffee almost 10 HOURS earlier. No wonder I felt sluggish! From that day on, I’ve been trying to be more conscientious of my hydration habits.
However, even with a huge water bottle with me everyday, I’d leave it sitting on my desk, often forgetting to even take a few sips during a busy day of teaching.

Another delicious meal! Tonight I made honey mustard chicken. It was the same base sauce I used on the salmon on the weekend. Ingredients:
Honey, Dijon Mustard, lemon juice and salt and pepper. 
I didn’t really measure anything, just made a bowl full and marinated the chicken over night. Baked in the oven, served with mashed potatoes and baked zucchini and beans. The greens were cooked in a teaspoon of ghee with salt and pepper.

Another #whole30compliant meal! Beef and vegetable stir fry. The kids had theirs with rice, I just had more veggies. You could serve this with cauliflower fried rice or just plain cauliflower rice. I like it but the kids don’t - but it’s in there anyway. They will get use to it by the end of September! 
I have to say focusing on my nutrition and planning healthy has definitely helped with my anxiety. It’s amazing what a few healthy, whole food meals can do.

Each new school year brings a new set of hope and expectations! A lot of work, too! I remember all the years of preparation for homeschooling! How I USED to eat VS How I eat NOW

I was overworked, over tired and reaching for anything that quick and easy. Restaurant life will do that to you! That led to me eating a lot of processed foods, take out (pizza, subs, sushi, etc.) and sweets (candy, ice cream, cinnamon rolls, brownies, you get the idea). It left me always feeling tired and lethargic.
.
I still enjoy the occasional treat, let's be real, who can live without ice cream and wine! But I make a daily decision to fuel my body with whole, clean, nutrient dense foods. I choose food without a label and as minimally processed as possible and fill my diet with vegetables, lean protein and healthy fats. I feed my body well and in return I have more energy, sleep better, improved digestion and I generally feel good from the inside out.

But this didn't happen overnight. .
Start small, make weekly changes (like replacing soda with sparkling water, trying a new vegetable or having fruit for dessert instead of something sugary) and eventually you'll be feeling your best too. You can do this!

Yesterday was day one back at work... and I’m already exhausted. I didn’t get to finish all of my meal prepping on Sunday so I had to whip something up last night after my Crossfit workout. This is the second recipe I’ve prepped for the week for a grand total of 10 lunches in under 2 hours. These taters will have an avocado-cilantro-lime sauce drizzled on top after its reheated at work. I love this recipe for the school year because it’s so dang easy and fast. Taco Sweet Potatoes 🌮

🍠Sweets: cut 5 in half, drizzle with olive oil, sprankle salt and pepper, bake 20 min @ 400 face up, flip, bake 25 more min.

🌮Taco Meat: 1️⃣Brown ground beef. 2️⃣ Add a cup of diced onions to pan and 1 diced jalapeño. 3️⃣ Cook until onions are semi-translucent with the meat. 4️⃣ Add a cup of fire roasted diced tomatoes. 5️⃣ Simmer down. 6️⃣ Season! Paleo Taco Seasoning: 1 tbsp chili powder, 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp black pepper, 1/2 tsp coriander, 1/2 tsp dried oregano, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1/4 tsp paprika. 7️⃣ Let cool while sweets finish in the oven.

I’m trying to be more intentional in my end of day routines so I start my new day feeling ready. One of these routines is writing in my teacher gratitude journal from @edpiphany ! Taking a moment to stop and reflect on the day helps me see all the good that happens in my day and reflect on any changes to make for the next one. Forgetting morning message really slowed our momentum in morning meeting this morning. After reflecting, I went and immediately wrote my message for the next day so it wouldn’t happen again. These small moments and changes are so important for improving as a teacher! .

I lost some weight but, needless to say, I didn’t see any tone in my body with all of that cardio. When I found my healthy lifestyle tribe, and started completing  at-home workout programs, it completely changed my view of health and fitness and my body. Yes, I was still doing cardio, but I was also starting to lift free weights. I have seen and felt the benefits that come with a well rounded fitness routine. I would love to take what I’ve learned and pay it forward. .

Watch out, I’m coming in hot today with my girl @msrachelhollis 🔥 Two years ago I had a major wake up call. I was 3 years out of college thinking I was supposed to be doing big things, but instead I had dropped my physical therapy school applications, spent 9 hours a day alone with a screaming toddler as a full time nanny, had gone from having all of my closest friends within a one mile radius to knowing no one in my city, had no hobbies or sense of purpose, and basically had lost all sense of identity. I was MISERABLE and lost in a way that I had never experienced before.

Then my boyfriend sat me down and told me some really, really hard truths. He told me that I was in charge of my life. He said that I am the one making the choice to be miserable. He said, “this is your life now... I know you miss the life you had in college but you can’t go back, so you need to figure out how to be happy moving forward... you’re a strong girl but you’ve forgotten how to be yourself.” It was exactly the punch in the gut that I needed. 
YOU are in charge of your own happiness. One of the amazing things about life is that you are just one decision away from an entirely different path. I never, never saw myself becoming a teacher. But in the midst of my hardest days, I said yes to an opportunity to work at a preschool and that decision has changed everything.

Whatever seems ludicrous and impossible really isn’t. There’s a different between CAN’T and WON’T. 🙌❤️

#teachernerd moment. Since I can’t go into school until I’m no longer contagious, I’m doing some work from home. My students LOVE our scratch off boards! I use this for table team point winners each week. The kids all agree on 1 box to scratch off and the whole table gets whatever’s underneath. I use 1 part acrylic paint and 1 part liquid dish soap to make the scratch off paint. You can see the prizes on the left while the right side already has paint. I have 2 classes so I paint one red and one blue. These are free on my TpT...I’ll post the link in the comments. My TpT isn’t much...just a few odds and ends so don’t get too excited. Haha!!

Sunday is about resting, a little fun, & getting ready for Monday.  Sunday is often a family day, but this week was the 1st weekend after school started.  I was glad nothing was planned.  Sunday is usually church, a meal out, grocery shopping, meal prep, and laundry.  If the Walking Dead is on, we will watch that too.  I try to get as much done if I can to make my week less stressful, but also fit in a workout or other things to de-stress a little.

As a mom and a certified middle school teacher, I find myself sharing tips with friends from my being inside the classroom and in schools for over thirteen years. I wanted to create one place for parents to go to receive the best advice a humble teacher could offer. So this is how this group was born. For seven days, I will be providing free value to the community in a private facebook group. The content is great for parents who want to start their school year (whether it be for their primary or secondary children) off right. Tips and techniques will be provided on: establishing routine, homework best practices, meeting kids where they are at, collaborating with your child's school, mindfulness practices, organization, fostering independence, healthy habits, and more. These tips are appropriate for kids from kindergarten through high school.

This group was a HUGE success last year and I would like as many people to benefit as possible. Invite your friends- it's completely free. The group will remain organized with it's content, tools, and live videos. Simply comment “going” and you will be added the weekend it begins. As a mom and a certified middle school teacher, I find myself sharing tips with friends from my being inside the classroom and in schools for over thirteen years. I wanted to create one place for parents to go to receive the best advice a humble teacher could offer. So this is how this group was born. For seven days, I will be providing free value to the community in a private facebook group. The content is great for parents who want to start their school year (whether it be for their primary or secondary children) off right. Tips and techniques will be provided on: establishing routine, homework best practices, meeting kids where they are at, collaborating with your child's school, mindfulness practices, organization, fostering independence, healthy habits, and more. These tips are appropriate for kids from kindergarten through high school. This group was a HUGE success last year and I would like as many people to benefit as possible. Invite your friends- it's completely free. The group will remain organized with it's content, tools, and live videos. Simply comment “going” and you will be added the weekend it begins. Start small (1/2 teaspoon mixed with water- cold or hot). You will fall asleep fast, sleep sound, and wake up refreshed. Four weeks done ✅. Cheers to deciding you aren’t going to quit this time. No way. Not going to let a few bad choices steer me off the right path. Have I ate perfectly clean the past four weeks? Absolutely not!  Have I worked out everyday? Nope. That’s why I love this program and journey. So flexible. So DOABLE! Literally anyone can do it. There is no secret diet or plan. The honest secret is to SHOW UP for yourself. Be as consistent as you can. If you fall down, just get right on up again. It’s when you fall down and decide “oh well 🤷🏼‍♀️. I guess I’ll go back to my old ways now since I just ruined all my progress🤦🏼‍♀️.” I’m super guilty of that 😬. .

Missing my nephew like CRAZY! We got to FaceTime him and his parents yesterday, which was so awesome. I’m seriously blessed for the time we got to spend together this summer. At the beginning, he struggled to let me put him to sleep. But on this last day together for a while, he snuggled and fell asleep on me right away! Mood. 😂 pretty sure we’re all just winging it all the time... which is simultaneously terrifying and comforting 🤷‍♀️ As life ramps back up with start of the school year, just remember that there’s no “right” way to do this thing. Balance it all the best you can, ask for help when you need it, take a break sometimes, and if something feels off, re-evaluate. And most of all, live with love, grace and gratitude as much as you possibly can.

Stress eating,
Emotional eating,
Eating because it’s there,
Clean plate club, 
Eat everything on Sunday so you can start again on Monday,
Go on vacation and eat everything in sight because you “have to be good” when you get back from vacation,

Deprive while doing a clean-eating meal plan and then binge when it’s over or binge because you were imperfect...
•
Not listening to our bodies... •
When our stomach physically hurts but we ignore it, take a DEEP BREATH, and keep eating... That shit makes us gain weight.
•
A calorie surplus makes us gain weight.
Not carbs, not fat, and not even processed foods.
•
Overeating for all of those above reasons. 
That’s how I gained weight.

It wasn’t the fat and it wasn’t the carbs. It was my overeating for emotional reasons. 
I lost 25lbs ... and ultimately kept these 25lbs for 4 years by learning about why I overate... Fck diets.

Instead of doing a cleanse, meal plan, or whatever diet that wants you to drastically cut calories or drastically eliminate food groups... Learn to eat in a way that makes you feel physically good... and includes 🍕🍪

We’ll be focusing all of this in my upcoming August course.
