Does your baby suffer from torticollis? This is a stiff neck which results in restricted range of motion, trouble feeding and one fussy baby! .
In newborns, torticollis can happen due to positioning in the womb or after a difficult childbirth. This is called infant torticollis or congenital muscular torticollis.

LONG POST ALERT:::::: *****WHAT ARE PRIMITIVE REFLEXES AND HOW DO THEY IMPACT MY CHILD'S HEALTH***** Primitive reflexes are reflex actions originating in your child’s central nervous system that are exhibited by normal infants in response to particular stimuli. They are pre-programmed into our nervous systems to help us survive and thrive in particular situations. For example, the rooting reflex is present to help infants know to turn their cheek towards food when it is feeding time to help ensure successful breastfeeding. There are more than 10 primitive reflexes that a child is born with. They should only remain active for the first few months of life however, sometimes they can be retained, meaning they remain active for a lot longer.
Retention of primitive reflexes can be caused by a variety of factors. The birth process is a key factor in the integration and processing of these reflexes. A traumatic birth (a birth with excessive twisting and pulling, a birth using forceps or vacuum extraction or a c-section) may lead to retained reflexes. Additional causes of retained reflexes in children include poor posture, falls, lack of tummy time, delayed or skipping crawling, chronic ear infections, or stress on the child’s spinal column which surrounds their nervous system.
Retained primitive reflexes in children can lead to development delays, sensory processing disorders, ADHD, autism and bedwetting. If the reflex remains retained into the teenage years and adulthood, they can contribute to issues in coordination, sensory perception, immunity, energy levels, impulse control, concentration, emotional learning and intellectual learning.
Our paediatric examination includes testing of the following primitive reflexes:
Spinal Gallant Reflex
Asymmetric Tonic Neck Reflex (ATNR)
Aside from offering paediatric adjustments, Dr. Jennifer will educate parents on primitive reflex remediation exercises, an integral part of your child’s recovery.

Chocolate pudding that is also healthy? Count me in! This recipe is so simple, tasty, and feels like such a treat. 😋
1 large ripe avocado 🥑
1/4 cup raw cacao 🍫
1/4 cup coconut or almond milk 🥛
2 tsp. stevia
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Optional toppings: berries, cacao nibs, nuts, get creative! 🍓
Puree the avocado until it is smooth. Mix together the milk and cacao powder until combined. Add to the avocado. Stir in the stevia, vanilla, and any extras you may want!
This makes about 1-2 servings and should be stored in the fridge. Enjoy! ❤️

Bone Broth! So good for digestion, immunity, arthritis, and so much more! 🐖🐄🐔
It's really so simple to make & you can adjust it and add any ingredients you like! I made this bone broth with beef bones and you can actually buy a package of bones from Whole Foods or most health food stores. 🐄 You can also just use the carcass after a chicken or turkey dinner!
1️⃣ Add the bones to your Crock-Pot or slow cooker
2️⃣ Fill the slow cooker with filtered water, bones should be covered, but don't fill it all the way to the top
3️⃣ Add in any veggies you want! I used onions and garlic in this one, but you could also add celery, carrots, etc.
4️⃣ Add sea salt (for electrolytes) and pepper
5️⃣ Add herbs if you want to! I used rosemary here
6️⃣ Cook on low for about 24 hours
7️⃣ Strain the broth with a mesh strainer
8️⃣ Let your broth cool before storing in refrigerator or freezer
9️⃣ Reheat whenever you want to enjoy some health promoting bone broth!

Hey friends! Ashley Pickett (left), Dr. Denise Handscomb (middle), and Jaklyn Andrews (right) here. We’re the creators of Flourish Prenatal Retreat and we wanted to say hello 👋 👋 👋
We came up with the idea for Flourish a couple years ago when we all sat down together to talk about a different kind of prenatal class. Between the three of us we’re a lactation consultant, infant sleep educator, babywearing educator, parenting coach, naturopathic doctor, naturopathic doula, birth doula, postpartum doula, health researcher and childbirth educator *and also moms* SOOOOO we had a few ideas to float around 😉😅 We came up with the idea to co-teach a class that capitalized on our collective areas of expertise *and* to feature other local prenatal and postpartum experts along the way. We wanted to create a little hub for parents-to-be so they could leave our class feeling informed, supported and connected. Then we figured, since we were going for a kind of one-stop-shop feeling, we might as well throw some meals and snacks and gifts and giveaways into the mix to make it even more fun!

SCIATICA SUCKS!!! The term sciatica describes leg pain—and possibly tingling, numbness, or weakness—that originates in the lower back and travels through the buttock and down the large sciatic nerve in the back of the leg.

Avocados! One of my favourite foods. 🥑
Not only are avocados a healthy monounsaturated fat, but they also contain nearly 4 grams of protein - more than any other fruit! 🥑🥑🥑
Tip: if you want to prevent your avocado from going brown when they are cut open, sprinkle it with a little bit of lemon or lime juice! 🍋🥑

Expectation vs. Reality 😂
Did you know eggs are an excellent source of choline? Choline assists in liver function and brain development. Very important!
Eggs are also a great source of healthy fat, but remember to buy free-range eggs instead of the cage-raised. 🍳🍳🍳
School is just around the corner. Is your child’s backpack helping them or HURTING THEM? 🎒🎒🎒 DID YOU KNOW that a backpack weighing more than 15% of your child’s bodyweight can damage their developing spine?
Follow these tips to make sure that your child’s spine stays healthy throughout this school year: - purchase a backpack with wide straps and individualized compartments to ensure an even weight distribution - always have your child wear their backpack with both straps over their shoulders - pack heavier items towards the bottom of the backpack - carry a lunch bag outside of the backpack to help reduce the load - ensure that the bottom of the backpack is no more than 2 inches lower than your child’s hips (straps should be done up tight)
- make sure that pointy or bulky objects are packed away from the area that rests on your child’s spine to avoid increased muscular tension and shifts of the spine
If your child is not under regular chiropractic care, check your child’s shoulders and head level at least once a month to determine if they are showing early signs of repetitive stress on their growing spine.
The shoulders should be level and even when looking from front to back and the head should rest overtop of the shoulders when looking from the side.
