Zucchini noodles, or zoodles, are packed with nutrients and a great way to make a healthy all-vegetable pasta 😋 ⠀
👇 🥑 RECIPE: Zoodles with Avocado Basil by @naturallyzuzu 🥑 👇⠀
4 medium size zucchini processed through a spiralizer. Set aside in a bowl. ⠀
✔️ 4 oz water ⠀
✔️ 1/2 cup basil leaves⠀
✔️ 1/2 cup spinach ⠀
✔️ 1/3 cup pumpkin shelled seeds ⠀
✔️ 1 avocado ⠀
✔️ Juice of 1 lemon ⠀
✔️ 1/3 cup nutritional yeast⠀
✔️ 3 cloves of garlic ⠀
✔️ Salt and pepper to taste ⠀
Blend the Pesto ingredients in a food processor until smooth. ⠀
Pour over the Zoodles. Sprinkle with hemp seeds.
We sometimes have that craving for a “good thing”, especially when tired, stressed or during celebration time. Diet culture has taught us that we either follow the diet plan to the T, or we are a failure. “A cheat is bad, it will throw you off.” Or, “If you can’t hold back, it’s a lack of willpower.” And so, from that mindset, when we have a “cheat” we feel bad and guilty.
Are there other options?
The good news is: Yes. We can invite compassion for the way we are feeling and then assess: “What is it that I want to do from here.” a) Do I want to find another outlet for my feelings and meet that need another way? Or b) Do I want to indulge compassionately?” When having the food compassionately, you acknowledge the struggle while letting the food nurture you fully emotionally as you enjoy every bite. “You can have it, but with 1 condition - you ENJOY it.” Today, I was in this type above situation. We were celebrating my son’s 8th birthday. I was trying to just have some nuts. But when II was observing everyone enjoying yummy fluffy donuts, I started to crave something “GOOD!”. A concept shared by one of our teachers at The Institute of Integrative Nutrition came to mind. That of BEING BAD. When trying to eat healthy and heal we often get obsessed with trying to do everything right. We stress over it to the point of losing the joy of living in the moment. And so, I decided in celebration of my Son’s birthday I am going to be “BAD”. I wanted ice cream but that would harm my body too much. And so I opted for a higher carb treat that is an indulgence that will still work with my body.
And that is how this yummy, creamy, concoction came about. The ingredients were added one by one by listening to my body. The end result was: I ENJOYED EVERY BITE AND IT NURTURED ME both PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY.
Since, I added ingredient as I went along and I had no idea what the end result would be, I did not measure.
So Delicious vanilla flavored unsweetened coconut yogurt
Nut butter mix
heat water and dissolve 2 T. cocao powder in it - not a lot I did not want it to be warm.
A few walnuts
I mixed it all together in the smoothie blender.

🍽The key is choosing a regular ( NOT Non-fat) yogurt that is plain and unsweetened. 🍽Instead of the added sugars in flavored yogurt, make yours sweet with fresh berries.
🍽If you are looking for a delicious alternative to dairy yogurt, @foragerproject Cashew Yogurt is delicious. To bump up the protein content ( it has 3 g), I mix in some @manitobaharvest Hemp Seeds along with some raspberries.

They can take a few days to start working but be patient because once they do, yay 😁🤣💖! I take one in the morning, right when I wake up. There are no side effects except, happiness and smiling!
If youre on big pharma meds, do your reasearch as it may interfere with diabetic, thyroid meds and antidepressants so you should definitely consult your doctor first.
But if you're living organic like myself, then give them a go.

A few tips to stay on track for Thanksgiving:
🦃 Plan ahead of time. Think about what is worth indulging in and what isn’t.
🦃 Eat a healthy breakfast and snack smart before your get-together. If you’re starving, you’re more likely to lose control at the food buffet.
🦃 Don’t let your family members guilt you into inhaling their homemade pies or casseroles. Instead, sample them.
🦃 Move a little! Instead of lying down after dinner, take a walk and enjoy the weather or play a game of touch football with the family.
🦃 Lastly, be thankful! There’s always something to be thankful for. 💖

That the person putting themselves through the most hell 🔥 or eating the least amount, is the person doing the best and going to see the most results.
That the person throwing up 🤮mid workout is a beast.

That person is an idiot. You do not need to mistreat, under feed or torture your body to lose weight!!!
Have we ever stopped to think about that for a second🙇🏽♀️?
Why would it ever be a good thing to run so much that you threw up? Hmmmm, maybe if you throw up, your body is trying to tell you something, listen to it👁.
And I don’t think its saying “good fucking job!!! Keep doing what your doing!”
No, losing weight is not easy.
It will require you to not only go to work all day and take care of your kids etc. but then use the last ounce of energy that you don’t think you have, to take care of yourself.
What 98% of the population doesn’t 🤷🏽♀️ do.
Instead we go home, eat, watch tv and go to sleep 💤 .
But for those who choose to look and feel good inside and outside...
They choose to step outside of their comfort zone and push a little harder even when they are tired.
But what they don’t have to do is workout 7 days per week and run 👟for miles every day.
Or eat less than 1200 calories everyday + push themselves so hard that they throw up.
Fitness is about nurturing and listening 👂🏽to your body.
We have got to start questioning the things we grew up believing.
All those fitness magazines and celebrities did us wrong❌!!

✴️Fun Fact Thursday✴️ The bristle toothbrush, similar to the type used today, was not invented until 1498 in China. The bristles were actually the stiff, coarse hairs taken from the back of a hog's neck and attached to handles made of bone or bamboo.
However, early forms of the toothbrush have been in existence since 3000 BC. Ancient civilizations used a "chew stick," which was a thin twig with a frayed end. These 'chew sticks' were rubbed against the teeth.
The toothbrush as we know it today was not invented until 1938, boar bristles were used up until this time, then nylon bristles were introduced.

so we’re a little late to the party. We started our business almost 10 years ago and along the way have amassed a ton of learning lessons and hilarious stories. .
One story we’ll never forget is when we were catering a small holiday party. We said YES to every opportunity that came our way because 1) we were just starting out and 2) we were thrilled to actually have the opportunities in the first place. .
We had to get our hand crafted mini apple pies downtown to the holiday party and didn’t have much cash flow so we decided to take the Subway rather than a cab. Imagine two short girls carrying huge, heavy, enormous boxes filled with delicate pies. We bumped into every person as we changed subway lines AND transferred from the subway to the streetcar. We were in constant fear that we would drop the boxes and our pies would topple to the ground. It was beyond comical. But nothing was going to stop us even if we didn’t have access to a vehicle! .
A good reminder that everyone starts somewhere. It took/takes #hustle#drive and hilarious moments like this to build our business. How’s that for a #waybackwednesday . .

3. Its the holidays were all going to splurge and enjoy yummy food. But balance is key! Still focus on eating clean healthy meals daily, and then enjoy those yummy treats and yummy food. Practice portion control especially with sugar (except for maybe on Thanksgiving ;) ) sugar and carbs are the biggest culprits for weight gain, bloated tummy and poor gut health. Load up on the lean proteins and veggies vs. Major carb loading..
4. Get some exercise! 🚴♂️Go to the gym go on a walk after dinner. Dont become inactive just because the holidays are here and winter is coming. It's still important to keep the body moving especially if your trying to avoid holiday weight gain. You may not feel like it but your going to feel great once you do!🏋️♂️
5. Last but not least drink lots of water 💧to keep you hydrated and to prevent over eating. Also get plenty of rest and good sleep🌛The holidays are always filled with joy and excitement but also lots of busyness. So be mindful of showing yourself some self love, relax, rest, and really take in all you have to be thankful for and love on your family and kiddos! 👨👩👧

I hear it every time. When I reach for the veggie platter instead of the mac & cheese it’s “wow SO healthy, don’t you want to enjoy yourself once in a while?” When I reach for a big ol’ slice of pie it’s “wow I’m surprised you’re eating something so unhealthy.”
I can’t win 🤷🏻♀️
So I’m just gonna do me. Sometimes that means a plate full of veggies, sometimes that means a second slice of pie. In all likelihood, it probably means both. And I’m hype for it 🤤
I don’t eat veggies to be “healthy,” or deprive myself of something I’d enjoy more. Veggies are delicious and the best part of a meal ok fight me about it. #eatyourmicros
And I don’t eat pie to “cheat” on my diet. I eat what my body is craving, and what I know will make me feel good. That includes foods that are good for the soul ok👌🏼

On a side note, he did not have a sleep today & was super crazy (actually going crazy/destructive) tired by the time it was bed time. So we took some extra oily measures to help him settle down - lavender & peace and calming in the diffuser, lavender on his pillow and on his feet - straight to sleep! 🙌🏼

Then don’t! Gently redirect the conversation to what you’re thankful for instead. Same goes for any other uncomfortable interactions. Take a break, step outside and text a friend, or just take a few deep breaths! 🧡

After meals, we cleaned and closed the kitchen until the next meal prep. My students embed this mantra to train themselves to stop eating after dinner. The handful of roasted grapes here or piece of chocolate there puts digestion into overtime. Snacking after dinner is you not allowing the exhale before the next inhale.
