I am grateful. 
I am blessed.

I wasn’t always as positive or optimistic as I am now. It’s taken years of working on myself. I’ve read too many personal development books to count. I’ve listened to endless hours of podcasts focused on personal growth. 
I’m a work in progress. I’ll never stop doing personal development. There’s always room for improvement. But I’m damn proud of how far I’ve come. 
There’s a lot of my story I’ve never shared. And I’m going to. Soon. Because I think it’ll help others. But for now, just now you’re not alone. And any day you wake up and get out of bed is a day you’re taking a step in the right direction. Keep going!! You’ve got this, girl!

Seriously, the choices are never-ending. With so much information out there that preys on peoples desire to have instant results, most seem to want to jump in and do something drastic. Like change their whole life and way of eating - in a day! The thing with drastic is - it rarely, if ever lasts. Sure, it can work for a short while but then you are back to where you started, Sound familiar? 🙋🏽‍♀️ So, instead of that, heres my advice:

Most of us already have a good idea and 'know' what we should and shouldn't eat. Its in the implementing of that knowledge where people struggle. So heres my level-up challenge... 5-4-3-2-1 🤪

Think of your daily food choices and take out just ONE thing that you know could be healthier and replace it with one you know is healthy. For example: if everyday for lunch you eat a sub, chips and soda, take out the soda and replace it with water. Or, get half a sub and eat a green salad. Or, take out the chips and eat fruit. You get the idea 😜

Stick with it for a couple weeks. Then level up again with another ONE item. Stick with that for a while. Then try to replace one whole meal with better options. Stick with that for a while. And so on 😉💪🏽.

Trying to change everything right away may sound like a good idea but rarely ever works for the long term. Take small steps towards a big goal. Old eating habits have been imprinted in your mind for most likely years...its short-sighted to think you'll get rid of them in a week. Take it slow (John legend voice 😜)

It was in undergrad that I really learned to value people, work hard, stay emotionally strong, solve problems, work well with others, and lead by example. It’s where I took my first steps toward leadership. I look back now and realize that my medical care was very informational but not transformational. I wanted to facilitate true change in others, but I was falling short. I didn’t realize that I needed to change first.

I believe everybody has one thing they do better than anyone else. The right place to start is with your one thing. I found my something in Evansville: compassion. That was what I focused on. I spent hours crafting my care around my patients. I studied good clinicians every chance I got. I was determined to become the best I could to empower those.

When I got started doing my one thing, I had no idea it would lead me to where I am today. Besides, even if I’d wanted to start big, I wasn’t sophisticated enough to, so I just started with what I had and did it as well as I could. As a result, my ability multiplied and improved. I am where I am today, not because I have done several big things, but because I was working with consistency.

Investing in yourself, whether it's personal growth, health and fitness, career advancement, academics, it's like depositing money into a bank. Practice your one thing with excellence daily, and you will get a return. Don’t think about what you can’t do, think about what you can. There is always a starting line. You just need to find it.

Practice your one thing with excellence daily, and you will get a return. Don’t think about what you can’t do, think about what you can. There is always a starting line. You just need to find it. . I made up a soup recipe in my insta-stories, and it turned out amazing. I think I’ll call it Salsa Chicken Soup, because that’s what it tastes like. Maybe Creamy Salsa Chicken Soup. .

Anyway, this is how I did it. .

Half a yellow onion, chopped
Half a bell pepper, chopped
3 Tbs garlic, minced
1 can Rotel
3 cups chicken broth
2 Tbs lime juice
1/3 cup Mateo’s salsa
1/4 cup coconut milk/cream
3-4 Tbs pickled jalapeño slices
1 handful cilantro 
Cumin & chipotle chili powder
2 cups shredded chicken .

Add the onion, garlic, and bell pepper to a pan and cook down in olive oil with salt and pepper until soft. Combine everything except the shredded chicken in a crock pot on low. Use an immersion blender and blend all the ingredients until smooth. Add shredded chicken and heat in crock pot for 2 hours. .

P.S. this is Whole30 compliant as long as you check the labels on your ingredients. Mainly the broth, salsa, and coconut milk. .

BUT, what if you took a more methodical approach? What if you didn’t try to turn your entire world upside down overnight? What if you made slow, gradual changes so you didn’t have to sit on your hands around sugar and white-knuckle your way around carbs?

You CAN lose fat without the calorie obsession. You CAN lose fat without the suffering. And it starts with throwing out the crazy food rules and learning how to TRUST yourself to make smart decisions.

Most of you have been dieting for years, if not decades. You already KNOW what healthy foods are. You don’t need more rules to tell you how to eat. You have a body that can help guide you every single step of the way if you can silence all of the unhelpful dieting noise you’ve been subjected to:

Before I knew it I felt GUILTY?! because I wasn't doing the things I needed to be doing!!

Why do we do that to ourselves? Add stress and guilt and shame instead of just accepting a temporary set back or limitation.

My body needed to SLOW DOWN. Sure, I might have missed an opportunity because I didn't go to an event, but there are other events!!

Ectomorphs are normally characterized by the following traits:
• Long & Lean build (often but not necessarily tall)
•Naturally slim
•Small bone structure •Small shoulders(often smaller than hips)
•Small chest
•Sometimes referred to as having a boyish frame (or being straight up & down)
•Efficient Metabolisms (think of the friend that can eat anything she wants & not gain a pound - where does it go???🧐)
•Little to no excess fat
•Naturally drawn to long distance running and swimming

While many of us would think this to be ideal, Ectomorphs sometimes wish they had more curves & could gain weight/muscle more easily. 
To gain weight or add muscle in a healthy way Ectomorphs can target changes in their exercise routines & diet. •••••••
Exercise - cut back on cardio and begin to add weight training to gain healthy weight. Complex body movements (like power cleans), squats, deadlifts, and bench presses, as well as body weight exercises would be great to add in. ••••••
Diet - Ectomorphs need a balanced diet of carbs, fats, & proteins. However, they can handle more carbs than any other body type. (Whaaaattt?!? 😲) Build a diet full of fruits & vegetables, healthy fats (avocado, olive oil), and lean protein (chicken, turkey, 93/7 or 97/3 beef, tofu, tempeh, hemp, etc.), and consume complex nutrient dense carbs (i.e. quinoa, sweet potatoes, etc.).

Kidding. Kinda.). It’s crazy how you can be cruising along in life, and suddenly & unexpectedly have to choose which way you’re going next. While unnerving at first, I have come to appreciate these times in life. Although it is hard to see what the outcome will be right now, I know from past experience that we will come out stronger and more compassionate on the other side. You can resist opportunities to grow, or you can boldly embrace them (however challenging) and trust it will all be worth it on the other side. One step at a time. Let’s do this.

LONG CAPTION ALERT, but stay with me!!!! This is what my night looks like tonight. A glass of wine, my daily devotion, and sweatpants. Today was a hard day. Those happen. Life is full of ups and downs. There are days where I feel stressed and overwhelmed and just come home feeling blah. I felt like so much at work was out of my control, I had tricky kiddos that I couldn’t figure out, I had a majorly long to-do list that I barely touched, I felt at a loss! I’m one of those people who is competitive with myself, I wanna be the best at everything. I just started this new jobIt’s okay that I don’t know everything and that the path ahead looks rocky right now. 
Then I read the passage from this book (love it, such a good read!! I highly recommend) and it really resonated with me. You can’t be THE best at everything, you can only do o much and be the best that you can be and the best that you know how to in a particular moment. When these rough days, these “blocks” or “obstacles” happen, in life, it’s all about how you handle them. It’s okay to be frustrated and I allow myself to feel that, but then I don’t let it bog me down. I don’t spiral down into a stream of negative thoughts. I have my thought then know it’s okay, it’s temporary, whatever was tough today I know I’m gonna figure it out/get it done/ and in a few months time I’ll have learned so much. The things that were hard today will be easier, before long that “obstacle will be behind you and you’ll hardly know how you passed through it.”

Make yo rice > flirt with your S.O. > throw some oil then toss in your chicken > throw in a fresh dad joke > once chicken is a little brown, throw in your eggplant > take some pics of your dog/cat sleeping > dump your curry & greens in the pan, turn the heat to simmer > pour the wine > plate up and feast!

Today I didn’t take videos, I just concentrated on my stretching and breathing! 
Honestly the twins are teething and I had to pause my workout like 25 times because they need to be held all day 🤦🏼‍♀️. But I still got it in! Tomorrow starts week two! I’ll push myself just a little harder this next week! In 7 days I’ve lost 7.3 lbs, I have more energy, and I just feel great! This new life style seems to be a household hit 😍 •

When I stopped eating sugar and wheat my whole relationship with food changed.

I became more aware of how much sugar is in foods we eat every day, even savoury foods.

When our family stopped eating refined sugar it wasn't an overnight thing, we gradually cut out everything that had added sugar.

The first to go were the obvious things - chocolate 🍫, sweets, baked goods and sugar added to our hot drinks.

Then gradually we started replacing and eliminating other things with added sugar.

I remember one dinner sitting down and we released that 5 things on the dinner table had added sugar and there wasn't a sweet or dessert in sight!

When you are trying to break an addiction even a little bit of sugar in your tinned beetroot can set you back.

There was a huge uproar from the girls when they found out they could no longer have tinned baked beans or tomato sauce.

We had many meltdowns, tantrums and tears as we worked out what we can and can't eat. And not just the girls, Tommi and I struggled with this too.

But we'd already noticed the change it made in Kisha's behaviour and the impact it was having on my health so we kept pushing through the withdrawals and cravings.

The girls just wanted sugar in any way shape or form, at one stage they ate so much fruit each day (the record was 2kg of bananas between the little two) that we had to instil a 2 pieces of fruit a day limit until we had the addiction under control.

This is where I utilised the help of a qualified nutritionist to help me keep them full and satisfied with food that wasn't just converting to sugar in their body.

@gingernotes_simone helped us map out a meal plan, which we used for a month.

That was the turning point for us. That was when we felt we had kicked the addiction, we seeing and feeling the results.

Kisha and I struggled the most, we both had a few huge setbacks and both know that we really can't have any sugar at all, while the other 3 can have sugar occasionally without it having any effect on them.

It was like a drug, one little taste and we were jonesing for more.

Now, 2 years later it is a lifestyle for us.

Sharing this with you today is twofold. First, I would like to thank @aaparker1 for guiding me during this process the last three months 🙌🏼. I am a firm believer that every coach needs a coach and that if you aren’t moving forward, then you are dying. I have always geeked out on nutrition and tried endless “diets” out on myself  paleo, low fat, Keto and decided that in order to change I needed to do something I’d never done and that was to hire a nutrition coach. Money well spent! Through this process we gradually added carbs and cals..... and guess what ..... I actually lost weight and have gained energy! 💪🏼💪🏼
That brings me to my second point - I’ve been around the fitness (CrossFit, powerlifting, bodybuilding) community for a long time now and the one thing I have noticed is that people undereat. If you want to see strength and performance improvements or body composition changes, you need to eat real food to support that.

I still hit my lifts, prep my food, track macros, and prioritize my recovery. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✨Biggest changes post show ➡️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ 1️⃣ Energy! I used to be the kind of person that couldn’t  stop after one piece of chocolate or one potato chip. I used to be the one to finish their entire plate at a restaurant even if it meant feeling sick afterwards. I would say “oh it’s healthy I can keep eating”. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Enjoying some flexibility these past few week did scare me at first but my mentality and mindset with food have completely changed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1️⃣ I opened a halo top and DIDN’T feel the need to finish it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2️⃣ When going out to eat I was comfortable leaving food on my plate. I didn’t feel the need to finish every last morsel and left the table 80-90% full. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀  I find telling myself that I CAN finish if I want to rather than “you can’t have all of that” mentally helps me and keeps me from wanting to binge. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ When cravings come embrace them! Feels so good to be making progress in my workouts.😬🙌🏻 This week I went up on weight with two different upper body exercises that I’ve been doing weekly for back/bis and it was such a feeling of accomplishment.💪🏻As I always preach, it’s important to celebrate those small victories.
