Catching up on this #hyggeyogi challenge ☺️ Days 1-3: forward fold, happy baby, childs pose. Day 1- I am not a fan of cold weather at all, I am cold natured so I just don’t enjoy winter very much so I tend to hibernate and not be very social during cold months. I come alive in the summer 😎 I do however enjoy snuggling and watching movies with my kids and admiring Christmas lights. Day 2- noticing the small details in life.. watching my kids when they’re playing and sometimes just staring at their perfect little noses and eyes and fingers and toes. Also the smell of my coffee in the morning ☺️ Day 3- when I first begin my practice I love the sensation of that first deep inhalation and appreciating the time to connect with myself even if it’s just for 15 minutes. .

S-T- RUGG-LING! This was tough for me after 6 weeks off training. If you don’t keep up your practice, what used to be easy for you becomes quite frankly quite tough. Work, life and a busy schedule can often get in the way. Sometimes we don’t prioritise what we know will make us feel good, healthier, stronger and give us peace of mind. I for one feel totally rubbish when I don’t get my practice in and yes life, with heavy work and children’s schedules, has made life crazy hectic of late. My promise this Christmas is to slow down, be with my beautiful family and to take care of myself and my health. What’s your Christmas and New Year promise?

This Creamy Chicken Quinoa and Broccoli Casserole is made from scratch with healthy ingredients.
real food meets comfort food. quick and easy, and a big gentle hug loaded with good-for-you ingredients.
2 cups reduced sodium chicken broth
1 cup milk (I used 2%)
1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
1/2 cup flour
2 cups water, divided
1 cup uncooked quinoa, rinsed
1/4 cup cooked, crumbled bacon (optional… sort of)
1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts
2 teaspoons seasoning (like Emeril’s Essence or any basic blend you like)
1/4 cup shredded Gruyere cheese (any kind will work)
3 cups fresh broccoli florets
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and generously grease a 9×13 baking dish (seriously, be generous because it really really sticks to the sides). Bring the chicken broth and 1/2 cup milk to a low boil in a saucepan. Whisk the other 1/2 cup milk with the poultry seasoning and flour; add the mixture to the boiling liquid and whisk until a smooth creamy sauce forms.
In a large bowl, mix the sauce from step one, one cup water, quinoa, and bacon and stir to combine. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Slice the chicken breasts into thin strips and lay the chicken breasts strips over the top of the quinoa mixture. Sprinkle with the seasoning. Bake uncovered for 30 minutes.
While the casserole is in the oven, place the broccoli in boiling water for 1 minute until it turns bright green and then run under cold water. Set aside.
Remove the casserole from the oven, check the mixture by stirring it around in the pan, and if needed, bake for an additional 10-15 minutes to get the right consistency. When the quinoa and chicken are cooked and the sauce is thickened, add the broccoli and a little bit of water (up to one cup) until the consistency is creamy and smooth and you can stir it up easily in the pan. Top with the cheese and bake for 5 minutes, or just long enough to melt the cheese.

If you’re someone who is low on time, I always recommend prioritizing compound movements (examples in video above) in your workouts because they can give you the greatest change in body composition in the shortest amount of time. 🙌🏼
I do still enjoy isolation movements! However, if you had to pick between one or the other, compounds are a better option. 🏋🏼♀️ You’re burning MORE in LESS time because you use your entire body rather than just a small muscle group.
I definitely noticed a hugeeee difference when I started doing compounds more than anything else! I was able to lose weight on more calories without doing a reverse diet which was awesome 😋😋😋
Make sure you’re not doing #fitchickscience workouts. aka workouts with primarily booty isolation work- it’s not going to get you the results you think! Stick with primarily compound movements, if you have the time sprinkle some isolations on top and you’ve got a solid workout 💪🏼

I’ve started getting up at 6am. It’s terrible. 🤦♀️
I swear I have the most comfortable bed in the whole world.
But I KNOW that I HAVEto take care of myself so I can bring my BEST self to the world. Every day. Which means getting up early and “doing me”- sipping my coffee ☕, journaling, and then working out in my underwear (BEST reason to work out at home, y’all 😂). It's non-negotiable.
I wear lots of hats- I’ve got two jobs, run a business, have a boyfriend, am a dog mama/daughter/sister/friend/Tim Horton’s regular (and y’all. Those people behind the counter need SO much love 🙌).
I can’t show up for ANY of that if I’m not 100% my best. I mean, I could, (and I have), but I’d regret it. If I slept in, snoozing my alarm like I have in the past, I'd be rushing around before work, grumpy and panicked and scatterbrained 😣. I wouldn’t do my best work or show up in my relationships and commitments they way that I need to.
But when I take care of myself first? I’m energized. Focused. Bright. Happy. And it pours out of me in my relationships, my work, and my life. 💃
I’m sure you wear lots of hats too- are you showing up for your people as your best self? Are you giving them the best of you?? If not, I challenge you to start making yourself a priority, and the rest will naturally overflow.
Because you cannot pour from an empty cup.
Happy Wellness Wednesday! Are you feeling really busy & overwhelmed? It’s that time of year where everyone is running!
On the one hand great to see friends & family at holiday parties & events. On the other hand there’s a lot of extra things to do as we all prepare for the ‘big show’ aka Christmas.
As you’re giving to others, are you giving to yourself? One simple thing you can do is to take 10 deep breaths before you get out of bed. Great way to start your day with a calm mind. Ending your day this way can help release the stress and tension of the day. Lay in bed on your back, eyes closed and as you breathe in through your nose let your rib cage expand & your belly rise. On the exhale let your back side sink into your bed. Take 10 slow breaths- 5 to 7 seconds on each inhale & exhale. Other great ways to practice self care is to take baths, spend quality time with friends & get in a workout or yoga class.

6 months. A lot paler and a WHOLE lot stronger! 😜 You may not see a huge difference here but let me tell you. It’s super hard for me to lose weight, I have to basically eat nothing which I simply will not do. But, I gotta say, I’m happy with my progress. I’m happy with the way I look. I feel confident in my own damn skin and it only took 30 some years. Does that mean I’m going to settle? HELL NO. I just want to be as STRONG as I can possibly be! I don’t give a shit how much I weigh. I want my body to work optimally and efficiently and I’m only just getting started. I also gotta say, for those of you dealing with pain, by ditching stretching for good and focusing purely on strength, I’m finally almost 100% pain free!! Even my chronic back pain that I’ve had my entire life has subsided. Also, ditching animal products completely and eating clean for the last year now has only aided in my progress. Less bloating, less inflammation and fatigue. I just feel GOOD!!! I have energy!! Who knew? Find out what YOUR body is capable of! Get up and move, just start. We had an enchanting adventure at the Artisan Christmas Village in Penn Alps. Hundreds of luminaries lit the path to cozy, old, log cabins and buildings filled with skilled craftsman, hot chocolate and apple cider, popcorn popping and homemade cookies, with outside fires to warm us. Loved this charming church.
I need vacation so badly right now. Preferably yesterday. I’m honestly feeling mentally drained, but I’m trying to keep my head up, think positive thoughts and just keep going.
