When my 40th Birthday was looming closer earlier this year I set myself the very vague goal of being fitter at 40 than at 39 - it wasn’t quite the SMART goal I’d generally set but was as much as I could manage at the time - despite feeling fitter nice to know that I smashed it on paper and according to my @nuffield.health MOT Im pretty much at my fittest!! ✔️600g salmon fillets chopped ✔️500g broccoli florets ✔️400g chopped tomatoes ✔️	1 large onion chopped
✔️2 garlic cloves chopped
✔️1 tsp ground ginger
✔️1 tbsp madras curry powder
✔️300ml vegetable stock
✔️fresh coriander to garnish
✔️salt and pepper
Fry the onion and garlic in spray oil till soft. Add spices and sizzle for a minute. Add rest of ingredients, season and put it all in the slow cooker on high for four hours. Serve with rice, garnish with coriander 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

I love this because it captures why self-care is so great. Not only does it help you operate at your best, but helps you be there for others too. It literally means nothing on how healthy or lean you are, and often, the better shape you gain & healthier composition you develop, the heavier you can become! Ever had weeks when you smashed the gym but no 'weight' loss?🤔 Focus less on the numbers & more on how you look and even more so...FEEL!!😄😄 Energy levels, fitness levels, how clothes are fitting, sleeping patterns, eating habits...all these are the real indicators you should be focusing on to track your progress!! 💪💗 A set of scales, especially a weight measurement, should not and do not define you!

I have ZERO issue with people who choose to post photos of themselves in their swimsuit or underwear or even naked – it’s their body, their business. But, I just want to make sure you know that posting a photo of yourself on social media in your undies or bathers is NOT a marker of body love ‘success’. It is not some box you need to check to prove you love your body.

In fact, if ‘learning to love your body’ feels like a lot of pressure or too daunting, then don’t feel like you have to strive for that either. How we feel about our bodies falls along a long and varied spectrum. Some people love themselves sick and others are just working to turn down the volume of negative body thoughts so that they don’t consume their day. You do you and go at your own pace.

This is my signature salad 🥗It started off many moons ago as a version of Bulgarian shopska - but I took away the cheese, and added apple, coriander and chillis instead. It’s fresh and has a kick. Every guest I give it to raves about it so this salad has become part of my permanent repertoire!! 🥗

Be honest, how many us have made assumptions about someone based on their body size? I'd hazard a guess that's most of us. What judgements might you make about this lady?
* lazy * greedy * no willpower * junk food addict What if I told you she had polycystic ovaries (PCOS), a hormone disorder which means you are more disposed to weight gain, carb cravings and will find it much harder to shift than those without the condition. Having PCOS means you have higher levels of insulin and testosterone circulating in your body and excess glucose in the blood leads to weight gain. This is real, not an 'excuse fat people use'. Jesus, significant weight loss is near impossible for the majority of us, imagine how hard it is for a PCOS sufferer! Yes a protein rich diet and weight training may result in some weight loss but often not to the amount desired, or expected of them. I see women like this every day and they are far from lady, greedy or lacking in willpower. In fact, they often have good diets relative to others and are both baffled and desperate to do something about it. And they do what most women do, blame themselves 😓 People come in all shapes and sizes and the more I understand the reasons and hear stories the person has to tell, the only thing needed is compassion. TLDR: Chronic dieting messes with your metabolism. Your body will uncharacteristically make new fat cells to protect you from the harms of extreme body-fat loss. .

As we grow through childhood to adulthood we grow new fat cells just as we do new muscle cells and bone cells until we reach maturity. Most people maintain the same number of fat cells throughout adulthood with a small number dying and being replaced each year (this process is completely irrespective of body size - the refresh rate is the same regardless of your weight). Fat cells ARE NOT destroyed as a result of weight loss. What DOES change is the size of fat cells. Both slight and significant shifts in body fat occur as fat cells get smaller or larger. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Here’s the kicker. Dieters intentionally restrict food intake and increase activity levels to create an energy deficit causing weight loss in the short-term. The body starts to worry when it loses weight (biological fear of starvation) and so it slows down metabolism, increases appetite and turns down the volume on LEPTIN. Leptin is a hormone produced by fat cells that basically tells the brain “Its all good, I have enough energy on board now. You can switch off hunger”. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

As with most diets, the body’s desire to keep you from starving wins out. A period of compensatory overeating often occurs and the energy deficit is lost. During this period the body starts making new fat cells so it can store more energy and protect against future weight loss. Remember, we don’t usually gain more fat cells in adulthood, and they cannot be lost. They can only grow or shrink. The second best thing about working from home is the fact that my gym tights or denim shorts with ugg boots are my office outfit and I can work from bed or couch if i choose. 
Let's be honest, pencil skirts and button up shirts just aren't my thing, so most of my days are spent in shorts, t-shirts, tights, and a messy top bun (well half a one with my short hair) and my uggies now its a winter dream here now in sydney. ❄️❄️⛄️

✔️take three eggs: crack them into a bowl and whisk them with a fork. Add salt and pepper
✔️heat some spray oil in a pan as hot as you dare and add in the egg and cook a little ✔️tip the pan so the egg runs into the bit where it hasn’t yet set
✔️once the omelette is set around the sides, but still a bit runny on top, add any filling you’d like - I put some spring onions, ham, herbs and cheese
✔️ flip one side over onto the other and slide it onto a plate!

The health and wellness industry is worth big bucks. And it has got that way by portraying a very narrow definition of what a 'healthy' person looks like, what they do (or mainly don't) eat, how they exercise, the clothes they wear etc. This exclusivity is what gets people opening their wallets, again and again, desperately hoping that THIS will be the time they will be accepted into the 'club'. But exclusivity is just that - it excludes people. As Melissa A. Fabello said on the Food Psych podcast, most people are left behind by the health and wellness industry because they simply can't meet those narrow definitions of 'health'. Which are BS definitions anyway! Health is more complex than the brand of activewear you take selfies in on Instagram and it means different things to different people. We all have the right to pursue health in the way we INDIVIDUALLY want to and we should ALL be supported to do that. We need inclusivity, not exclusivity.

I'd been yelling at the TV for most of the programme up to this point, as the solutions being offered for weight loss were commercial slimming clubs 🙄 Hugh sat this lady down, asked her when her weight became a problem and listened to her response. He recognised that she made no time for herself, put others needs before her own and lacked confidence in her abilities. He helped her realise that the issue was simply not about food but underlying psychological and emotional issues. He got her doing something she assumed she could never do due to her size....surging 🏄‍♀️🏄‍♀️How many people does this apply to?? We look for solutions in a diet when the solution lies within. We understand that restriction is restriction no matter how you dress it up.
If it’s disordered for one person, it’s disordered for another.
All people deserve the same health promoting interventions regardless of BMI.
Weight stigma causes more adverse health outcomes than the actual size of the person.
We are unable to tell how healthy someone is based on weight and size.
Size discrimination often leads to ineffective interventions rather than health promoting efforts.
Practicing from a weight centric model perpetuates weight bias and stigma.
Physical, mental, and emotional health are all of equal importance and have to be considered in determining interventions. 
It’s about the behaviors one has to engage in to reach a specific weight, not the number itself.
There is not a single randomized-control trial that can show sustained weight loss after 2 years. Around the 2 year mark, all of the data shows a weight regain that is higher than the pre-diet weight.

International No Diet Day is a day dedicated to raising awareness of the dangers of diet culture. It is bigger and more important than those cutesy “everything in moderation” or “take the day off your diet and eat something naughty” messages.

It is a day that has its roots in advocacy and activism and invites people to question just how helpful the pursuit of weight loss really is and why our culture is so fixated on the idea that there is only one ‘right’ body shape. Or that our success, attractiveness, personality, happiness, self-worth and health is measured by an arbitrary number on the scales or height to weight ratio (aka BMI)

International No Diet Day is also dedicated to celebrating body acceptance and body diversity and encouraging positive relationships with food and our bodies.

International No Diet Day is something that my fellow anti-diet colleagues live and breathe every day. But I get that you might not be at that place yet. So today, I invite you to take some time to reflect on what is working for you and what isn’t when it comes to your eating, how you feel about your body and your approach to health.

This is based loosely on a Central European recipe for stew - lecsó. The traditional version is a bit more like a soup and meat-free, but this is thick and hearty. I didn’t have any cured sausage, so used chorizo instead and added in some celery and mushrooms. Even though it was boiling in London this afternoon, I ate it in the sun with rice and raw spinach 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 .

How to make:
1 x Medium Chorizo chopped into small pieces
2 x chopped bell pepper
1 x onion
400g chopped tomatoes
1 x stick celery
10 x medium mushrooms chopped
1.5 x tbsp sugar
2 x tbsp paprika
2 x bacon chopped
Fry the meat with the onion for 10 minutes. Add spices celery, mushrooms and pepper - sizzle for a few minutes and stir in the sugar. Add the tomatoes. Bring to the boil and simmer for 40 minutes. .

Isn't it so sad that the idea of loving food is seen as a problem?

Eating is something we need to do pretty much every day of our life, and several times a day. Food is a necessity, and by goodness it should be enjoyable!
.
The funny thing is, when something interferes with our enjoyment of food, this is often where things go pear shaped... one of the biggest barriers to enjoyment is guilt - or more accurately - shame. .
Note: 
Guilt = I did something bad
Shame = I feel bad
.
So unless you did something morally wrong to obtain the food (like kill someone), you have no reason to feel guilt. What people feel is shame. Why do you feel shame? Because we live in an inherently judgemental culture where everyone from your mother to your doctor to your fitness instructor to your butcher to your work colleagues, are suggesting you shouldn't be eating that, or at least not so much of that. .
I must pause here and acknowledge that all the aforementioned people are usually doing this with good intention, they mean no harm...

This post could go on forever discussing why this judgement, which leads to shame, is so problematic with our eating; but rather than do that, instead I'd like you to take a moment to reflect on how helpful this judgement and shame is. Has it helped you to feed yourself in way the truly nourishes your body and the very human need to enjoy food? If your answer is no, then perhaps it's time to change how you think about food.

Chilli tonight made with lean beef mince and a lot of vegetables. This one went in the slow cooker at 6am and I came home to it for dinner tonight 🍲🍲🍲

✔️	500g 5% lean minced beef
✔️1 courgette chopped
✔️1 Carrot chopped
✔️1 red onion chopped ✔️2 Peppers chopped ✔️400g  Kidney Beans - drained ✔️200g Sweetcorn ✔️500g Passata
✔️1 tbsp Garlic powder
✔️2 Beef stock cubes ✔️2 tsp Dried Oregano
✔️1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
✔️1 tbsp Ground Cumin
✔️2 tsp Chilli Powder
✔️2 tsp dried chilli flakes
✔️1 tbsp Paprika
Brown meat on the hob. Soften onions. Addthe rest of the ingredients to the pan and season. If it looks dry, add more Passata. Put in the slow cooker for 4 hours on high 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
