My mom was at a coffee shop near Thanksgiving and when she went to order her drink, the barista was like, "oh, the person ahead of you paid for your coffee". My mom was so taken aback, because when does this ever happen? That we do random acts of kindness to strangers?
This stranger teaches us a great lesson. To do what you can to brighten someone else's day. For him, it was leaving an extra $5 to help the person behind him. His action also motivated my mom to give an extra $5 for the person behind her. We'd have to ask the barista how many others would do this throughout the day 🙌
These little moments also boost our feel good hormones. Doing nice things for others makes us feel good - plain & simple. They also make us healthier. One if the pillars of my coaching is eating psychology and mindset. Our thoughts and mental state, affect directly the way we feel physically and weight loss.
If you always feel bad about yourself, you will never be happy. You will never enjoy what you are doing and you won't be making changes from a productive state. You will be more working from a state of unworthiness and punishment.
If you think food makes you fat, if you hate your body, if you think you are not good enough...that will be what will actually happen. Your brain and thoughts are powerful, when you are in such state that's what you project and that's what you will have.
Also physically, you are sending a strong signal from your brain to your nervous system. Your nervous system will tell your body what you believe. You think you are fat...there you are you are telling your body what you want to be. You think you are not enough or you are not able to achieve your goals, more of the same your nervous system is receiving the signals not to be able to do it.
You need to love yourself now, you are worth, your are beautiful, you are unique. Tell yourself loud every morning 10 times. Start doing things and making changes because you love yourself not because you hate yourself.

I had some protein bbq chips in my stash so those got my protein requirement up to where I needed it. They’re made mostly from pea protein & are quite tasty! Often I’m asked, what’s my favorite diet? I don’t really have one, but my rule is to incorporate as many vegetables as I can into my daily meals, usually striving for a minimum of six -seven servings a day. But with that said, I say my diet closely resembles The Mediterranean Diet. It is one I follow a lot because research shows that
people from the Mediterranean ( France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain, ) enjoy tremendous health benefits from their diet. First, they suffer lower levels of chronic disease, which means they enjoy a higher life expectancy than most other countries in the world. Secondly, they do this by balancing work with leisurely downtime with the company of family and friends. They also engage in regular physical activity or exercise, and they consume a healthy diet consisting of mainly fresh fish, such as salmon, organic lean meats such as chicken, whole fruits and vegetables, and heart-healthy whole grains and olive oils along with other other omega -3 foods such as avocados. In 4 weeks I’ve increased my calories by 250-300. I’ve had to eat when I don’t want to, try new foods, experiment with ways to get my intake up, and most importantly- change my mindset around food. It hasn’t been easy. I have a ways to go, but for the first time in a long time, I feel hope, and I BELIEVE that it’s possible. 🙏🏼 Food is no longer the enemy 😍

A morning routine can be crucial to start the day off on the right foot. What does your morning routine consist of? 💚
One of our favorites is a hot cup of coffee paired with a serenity inducing scent and a breath of fresh air while listening to the birds chirp 😌☕️
Incense and essential oils can both be used in aromatherapy [non-synthetic, organic products recommended only]. Inhilation is an extremely efficient mode of administration for affecting neurological function, as the smell receptor sites in our nasal cavity have a direct link to the brain. 🤯
In a 2013 article, researchers at Xiamen University, China, commented: “Most studies, as well as clinically applied experience, have indicated that various essential oils, such as lavender, lemon and bergamot can help to relieve stress, anxiety, depression and other mood disorders. Have you planned out your Thanksgiving spread yet? This pumpkin soup is creamy, delicious, and the best holiday appetizer. Get the recipe below and tag us if you make it for your guests! 🍂⠀
1. Heat a large soup pot on medium/high heat with 1 minced garlic clove, 1 diced onion, and 1 tbsp olive oil. ⠀
2. When onions become translucent (about 3-5 minutes), add 4 cups veggie broth, 30 oz canned pumpkin, .5 tsp thyme, and .5 tsp sage. Bring to a boil.⠀
3. Once boiling, turn to low heat and let cook for about 40 minutes. ⠀
4. Transfer soup into a blender and blend until very creamy. ⠀
5. Transfer back to the pot on low heat to keep warmed until served. Optional: all in .25 cup heavy cream for extra creamy texture. Enjoy! #rdapproved

Decided to get creative yesterday in an effort to increase our veggie intake (always a struggle with kids).
• • •
So, this is what I came up & it was ah-mazing! And really very easy!
• • •
Here’s how you do it:
1. Preheat oven to 425* F.
2. Wash & chop up a head of cauliflower in relatively similar sized pieces.
3. Place chopped pieces on a large baking sheet & drizzle with a high heat fat (avocado oil, melted ghee, butter or coconut oil).
4. Sprinkle with a good pinch or two of Sea Salt and black pepper.
5. Roast for 15-20 minutes, or until slightly brown & roasted.
6. Meanwhile, chop up 4 cloves of garlic. Set aside.
7. Once cauliflower is roasted, remove from oven and melt 3 Tablespoons of fat (I used butter) in a skillet (I like cast iron).
8. Add chopped garlic to skillet and sautée until slightly browned (about 30 seconds).
9. Add roasted cauliflower to skillet & mash.
10. Add 2-3 Tablespoons of sour cream, creme fraiche OR non-dairy substitute AND 2-3 Tablespoons of shredded Parmesan, Asagio OR non-dairy substitute (like nutritional yeast) AND about 1/4-1/2 cup of heavy cream or non-dairy substitute (like canned 🥥 milk). Stir & mash!
11. It’s really good like this, but if you want a smoother and/or thinner consistency (like mashed potatoes), throw the entire mixture into a food processor or blender and purée to your liking. You may have to add more liquid if you want a thinner consistency.

🔅Cali born and raised! Moved to NY for grad school at NYU and I call Brooklyn home. I’m a chef and I’ve worked in nutrition ed and public health for nearly 10 (?!) years. Past food jobs include culinary educator, caterer, and baker at a vegan bakery 🍪.
🔅My ultimate comfort foods are pho, street tacos and Vietnamese crepes. Cali has my heart for all three!
🔅I’m wildly passionate about making healthy eating approachable and uncomplicated. I created Eat Well Eat Real to help folks enjoy tasty and healthy food, make lasting healthy changes without fad diets, and gain kitchen confidence.
